Stunned by the Vick news

POSTED: Thursday, August 13, 2009, 8:49 PM

Are you for or against the Eagles signing Michael Vick?
For.
Against.

Update: Eagletarian has confirmation from Joe Banner. It's official, folks.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that the Eagles have signed Michael Vick to a two-year deal.

This has to qualify as the most shocking news involving the team, well, maybe ever?

Just last week, Andy Reid was asked about the possibility of signing Vick and here's what he said during a TV interview:

"I'm happy with my quarterback situation here," he said. "I do believe this kid deserves a second chance, and there's nobody better to have in your corner than Tony Dungy, man. He's a class, class act, and I know commissioner [Roger] Goodell has stood up on the table for the kid, so I'm sure there were some things that happened there that built that trust in him. He's got great people in his corner, and I'm pulling for him."

Earlier in camp Reid was asked about Vick and said he believes in second chances at this point in his life.

Donovan McNabb had also been asked about Vick and said he believed he should get a chance to play in the NFL without receiving any further punishment from the league.

How do you feel about the signing?

More soon.

HEY: Everybody calm down. This is The United States. If you have paid your debt to society then you have a right to work. Vick paid his debt and now he has a job.

I love it, so outside the box, so fresh thinking... For the first time in years I finally feel a little more confident in this front office. To all you idiots out there... just what exactly do the Eagles have to lose other than their own 1.6M dollars? This could turn out to be a steal.

Another quarterback controversy distraction? Or motivation for Donovan? Hopefully, the latter. Go EAGLES!!!!

The interesting thing is he is going to be motivated to redeem himself from his troubles. If he can play WR/RB...he has potential to be dangerous

I agree with Kecker. This is very, very disappointing news. Apparently, we have learned nothing about what it means to have character and proper leadership on a team from the horrors that were T.O. and A.I. Chase Utley is a great example of how quality people who are great athletes can lead this city to a championship. This is a disaster.

What a classless organization. I wouldn't hire that soul-less trash to clean the stadium. The Birds are dead to me.

I'm sure there's a plan, though who knows what it is. Do they need a fourth quarterback? Does this play with McNabb's mind, and Kolb's, and hurt team chemistry? Doesn't seem like a good move, but time will tell.

This smells like a desperate attempt to get the headlines away from the Phillies, because the Eagles aren't going to do it on the field. Though at least McCoy looks like the real thing. But signing Vick? I can only see it as pathetic publicity seeking.
    what is truth?

I have worn the green since I'm 7 years old. I turned the game off and I'm gonna watch the Pittsburgh game. The organization has gone bad. You get rid of B-Dawk and bring in Vick. How can I cheer for that. How can I ask my children to cheer for that.

Been an Eagles fan sice 1976....done with them today. Some people make mistakes and commit a crime of passion or while drunk....they deserve 2nd chances. This guy made the decision over and over again to torture animals for no reason by his own sick pleasure. He had enough sach to entertain himself in any way, he choose to bash dogs head into the pavement. You watch...this will be the karma that leads to the decline of the Reid-McNabb-Banner era over the next few years.
