Stunned by the Vick news

POSTED: Thursday, August 13, 2009, 8:49 PM

Are you for or against the Eagles signing Michael Vick?
For.
Against.

Update: Eagletarian has confirmation from Joe Banner. It's official, folks.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that the Eagles have signed Michael Vick to a two-year deal.

This has to qualify as the most shocking news involving the team, well, maybe ever?

Just last week, Andy Reid was asked about the possibility of signing Vick and here's what he said during a TV interview:

"I'm happy with my quarterback situation here," he said. "I do believe this kid deserves a second chance, and there's nobody better to have in your corner than Tony Dungy, man. He's a class, class act, and I know commissioner [Roger] Goodell has stood up on the table for the kid, so I'm sure there were some things that happened there that built that trust in him. He's got great people in his corner, and I'm pulling for him."

Earlier in camp Reid was asked about Vick and said he believes in second chances at this point in his life.

Donovan McNabb had also been asked about Vick and said he believed he should get a chance to play in the NFL without receiving any further punishment from the league.

How do you feel about the signing?

More soon.

Vick's done 2 years for killing dogs, and Stallworth is looking at 30 days for killing a man...where is the outrage over Donte's plea???

They couldn't keep TO around, because he was a jerk and a wack-job. Yet, they sign a money-laundering, dog-killing animal. The only reason to sign him was to solidify the criminal enterprise they have going. Reid's sons are the drug dealers. Parker is a drug user. Vick can launder the drug proceeds and organize a gambling ring. Joe Ligambi might have some competition.

Well the Eagles have finally done what I thought could not happen. I am never supporting them again. That they could even consider signing that piece of dirt is amazing. I hope they all rot.

I am dumbfounded! I can't wait to hear the reasoning behind the signing. Everybody deserves a second chance and this is coming from a Humane Society volunteer. However, where is he going to play? Qb, rb,receiver, returner, etc. Please Reid and Banner, tell us.

What happened to signing "character" guys? I guess you lose sight of that when the coaches own sons are in prison too. Hear that sound? That's the Eagles' fan base crumbling. I've been a life-long fan. After this signing..... HEY EAGLES AND JEFF LURIE.......... F YOU A HOLES!

The man went to jail for 23 months. He paid his debt. He deserves to play football. Good move, Eagles.

I'm totally disgusted. If Vick were a more average player, no one would be concerned about giving him a second chance. This just shows that money trumps morales.

I do believe he deserves a chance to prove himself but I don't see how this helps the Eagles. Even if his skills have not eroded in his time away from the game, it will still take awhile for him to get back into the groove. Until this happens, you probably can't expect much more than you'd get out of a slightly above average backup QB. Unless Kolb is out for the year or something this is sort of a head-scratcher. As a fan I hope it works out.

THIS IS THE BEST NEWS THAT I'VE HEARD AL YEAR!! I'M SO THANKFUL THAT GOD GAVE VICK ANOTHER CHANCE! WE ALL FALL SHORT, BUT THANK GOD FOR AMAZING GRACE FOR US ALL! FOR ALL THOSE WHO DISAGREE WITH VICK'S RETURN, WHAT IF THIS WERE YOUR SON...YOU WOULDN'T THINK TWICE ABOUT GIVING HIM ANOTHER CHANCE SO DO THE SAME FOR MIKE! HOW FITING, HE'S RETURNING AS AN EAGLE... FLY HIGH MIKE, FLY HIGH!

When they signed TO, that was shocking. What was even more shocking was letting go TO. The most shocking thing that I could ever recall this team doing since way back was drafting McNabb (Everybody thought Ricky, it was Reid's first draft and nobody knew anything about his drafting tendencies, there were many highly rated QBs, etc). This takes the cake. Most shocking event in Eagles history.. at least since 1999.

Can't you see him running on the field as they play "Who let the Dogs Out"?

Kolb must be hurt worse than they're letting on.

For all of you who think this is great, you might want to adjust your moral compass. I don't care if he served 100 yrs, he is a despicable being and what he did to poor defenseless animals is horrible.

I'm a die hard Eagles fan and I plan on boycotting this season and next. So much for Andi and his "Character players." Maybe they should sign the OJ to the front office, that would definitely start a buzz.
