Stunned by the Vick news

POSTED: Thursday, August 13, 2009, 8:49 PM

Are you for or against the Eagles signing Michael Vick?
For.
Against.

Update: Eagletarian has confirmation from Joe Banner. It's official, folks.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that the Eagles have signed Michael Vick to a two-year deal.

This has to qualify as the most shocking news involving the team, well, maybe ever?

Just last week, Andy Reid was asked about the possibility of signing Vick and here's what he said during a TV interview:

"I'm happy with my quarterback situation here," he said. "I do believe this kid deserves a second chance, and there's nobody better to have in your corner than Tony Dungy, man. He's a class, class act, and I know commissioner [Roger] Goodell has stood up on the table for the kid, so I'm sure there were some things that happened there that built that trust in him. He's got great people in his corner, and I'm pulling for him."

Earlier in camp Reid was asked about Vick and said he believes in second chances at this point in his life.

Donovan McNabb had also been asked about Vick and said he believed he should get a chance to play in the NFL without receiving any further punishment from the league.

How do you feel about the signing?

More soon.

I can't seem to wrap my brain around this signing. Depending on how much the contract comes out to, does this mean that Kevin Kolb isn't the next QB in line? Did Michael Vick somehow become a wide-receiver or running back while in prison? I would love to hear what the reasoning behind this signing was.

Shocking! If he has any talent left I hope he can play defense.

Wow!!! Vick won't be QB this year, but what a set of skill players in the Wildcat. Dmac, DJack, BWest, Shady & Ron Mexico. Lots for opposing teams to fear. Great move! Eagles are going all in.

I thought I'd just heard the ETN guys mention this on the preseason broadcast, but it was almost too surreal to be true - I was only half paying attention. Go figure, Mike Vick as an Eagle.

I for one was completely caught off gaurd by this. So, its McNabb, Aj Feely, Kevin Kold and Michael Vick? what happens hear? this is odd and i almost feel as if the eagles wanted some attention because the philles won the world series in 08. The eagles want to keep their fans. This is odd.... none the less, i am glad they gave him a second chance.

If, as an Eagles Diehard Fan, I'm supposed to feel embarassed that they signed him - I don't. There's only upside to his possible skills he still can offer. The only negativity will be how some of the idiotic fan base will treat him. Trust the front office, they don't do this without thinking over every possible angle to a signing.

Any truth to the rumor the Birds signed Vick to distract the fans from terrible O-line & D-line play?
