Report: Eagles showing interest in Boldin

POSTED: Thursday, April 16, 2009, 11:55 AM

It did not take long for the Anquan Boldin rumors to begin.

According to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio (via profootballtalk.com), the Eagles are one of four teams that have shown interest in acquiring Boldin's services.

The other three are the Giants, Jets and Ravens.

I'm assuming the report was on TV because I do not see an article by Paolantonio on ESPN.com's Web site.

So what will it take to acquire Boldin?

Paolantonio is reporting that the Cardinals are telling teams they want a first- and a third-round pick.

Several NFL sources told Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News that they expected the Giants to at least explore the option of adding Boldin.

That's it for now. But I have a feeling we'll be back shortly.

why would you not trade 2 lottery tickets for a sure thing? Everyone knows GM's love 2nd rd picks over 1sts. Trade for him and give him the cash. We have it, use it.

5isaKing why so negative!? Relax, breathe for God's sake. One first round pick and a third is just what the doctor ordered. If the Eagles f this up they're flushin McNabb's career in philly down the toilet. If you want a championship, you need a PROVEN receiver NOW, not in two or three years. Yes, Jackson is good, but he still has much to prove this year. Boldin would be K E Y

I'd rather see a 1st and 3rd for LT Peters and draft a RB and/or Receiver/Tight End...why pay 1st round money to an unproven receiver?

I like Boldin but I'd rather have Knowshon Moreno...then get Boldin or Braylon Edwards. Knowshon 1st and whatever they do 2nd...they have to many picks to F this up...but you know Andy will get an offensive tackle and let everyone pass him by!!!! Can we trade Andy Reid with one of those picks too???

5isaKing - Eli won the super bowl with Plax. Replace him with Boldin, and they will probably do it again.

send a 1st and all the 5th rounders for him... 1 and 3 is kind of steep for a 29 yr old, oft injured, malcontent receiver.

Donovan McNabb did not throw for 4,808 yards last year. He didn't even hit 4,000 yards last year.

the eagle need to to their best to get boldin then draft pettigrew with the other pick in the 1st round if he is available and draft a rb in the later rounds like the 2nd or 3rd....a line up of boldin & djax w/ curtis in the slot with pettigrew at te would be very formidable....enough w/ the bargain basement talent at the skill positions....

I believe Jevon Kearse was supposed to be a sure thing /proven commodity/pro-bowl caliber player too. That worked out well.

FireAndyReed - Boldin is no Plax. Burris is an idiot, but he lit up the Eagles. Boldin didn't. That was Fitzgerald. Boldin can't stretch the field and is prone to dropping passes. The Eagles need someone to demand double teams to open up the field for Jackson. For a first and third, they should be able to move up a little and get a quality WR in the draft. Like rodney517 says, I'd rather have Moreno than Boldin any day. If Westbrook gets hurts this year, the whole season is over!

It may be the "9th time" this report has surfaced but it's the FIRST time the Cardinals have publicly stated they will listen to offers. That makes a huge difference.

Let me explain to you people the Eagles have 2 first round picks they always trade there pick anyway if you trade a 1 and a 3 you still have a no.1 you draft a rb or tackle with that and your second round pick you draft a rb or tackle that way you end up with everything you want wr rb tackle just think about it boldin, donald brown, phil loadholt not bad.

while boldin benefitted from having fitzgerald aside of him, it wasn't too long ago that he was the man on that team, while fitzgerald was growing. While his injury history is apparent, it should be noted that most times he came back...missing only a couple games here and there (like last year...with a broken jaw!). Boldin would fit well with the eagles because he would give the team a steady "beefy" presence in the middle of the field... which would then give Jackson and Curtis better chances of 1-on-1 coverage. As long as it doesn't cost too much, I would say do it

Boldin is proven enough, he would demand a double team and open force teams to cover Desean or Westy 1 on 1, or vice versa. Thats scary for opposing defenses. don't forget about curtis, celek and avant as well. Draft a rb in the second round. Of course none of this will matter if the o line isnt sured up. With that said, I can't see the FO going into a season with a ? on the o line.

and by the way, a 1st and 3rd seems like a lot, but there is a high probability that they will trade one of them away for something (higher/lower pick) anyway, might as well get a star.

It must just be too unpopular to say that Jackson, Curtis and Avant are good enough. Draft Wells and another OL (or trade for Peters). When your QB is throwing for 4500+ yds, the receivers are good enough.

Those of you who think Boldin would be a tremendous risk just ask yourself who on the Eagles team today demand double coverage? Say what you want but Boldin would add a new interest in how the Eagles can stretch their offense and make their other receivers better. Did you know, McNabb is the only QB in the league with a white go-to or #1 receiver? Very Interesting!

@ 5isaKing: "Not afraid of Eli", I'm not sure if you heard but Eli/Plax have a ring! DMac(whom I love to death) and his assortment of WR's have no rings. Yes it's a gamble bringing in Boldin, because they would have to redo his contract, and most likely McNabb's...but the draft is a gamble too, maybe even a bigger one! At least if the Eagles brass brings in Boldin, it will silence all the idiot fans of WIP for, at least, one season! You fail to see the trickle down affect having Boldin in the line up provides: immediate elevation of all the other WR's. Westbrook(an his knee) don't see as many 8-man fronts. The pass rush slows down a bit, as they have to respect 3 maybe even FOUR WR sets. Reid & McNabb have gotten a lot more right than they have wrong...before they came along the Eagles were a joke! And that goes all the way back to early 80's. They may not have captured a Lombardi trophy, but they at least put the Eagles in the Elite year after year.

Are we the only team in the league whose best running back is also our best receiver? And all of you are ok with that? Have you really evaluated your choices or decision of players to pick in the draft, who you think should start, and who to trade or release. And you wonder why you are just a fan and not a owner, general manager, coach or quarterback? Do what you do best and remain a spectator trying to learn the game.

Boldin's dream team is Miami - not that that will happen. Ocho is dying to come here. I'd rather have Ocho and a top tackle.

Why not Boldin and Ocho??? With Jackson?? Sound good? O-line is a concern still, but I'll still try and make a move in Free agency for the tackle. I would love for them to go for Pettigrew if still available with their other 1st round pick. If not then pick the best available running back. Done. Go get em' "nickles"! Put up the money and the draft picks on the table!! Dont let the Giants get him, we ill pay for years if you do! 5isaKing must be smokin crack! How could he not see that Boldin would help this sorry sack of a receiving crew... less Jackson??

eagles need a QB who can hit the receivers, not another wide receiver to watch 50% the passes coming their way be on the ground, 10 feet above them, or 3 ft behind their running pattern.

IF THE PICKS ARE THE BIG PART OF THE DEAL THE EALGES ARE IN GOOD SHAPE. THEY HAVE 2 FIRST ROUNDERS.

NO TEAM EVER GIVES UP A 1ST ROUNDER FOR A RECIEVER WHO IS NEAR THE END OF HIS "PRIME". AND ITS NOT LIKE HE'S A HALL OF FAMER TYPE WIDE RECIEVER. TYPICALLY TEAMS HAVE OFFERED 2ND ROUND PICKS FOR STARTING CALIBER QB'S. AND THE CARDINALS WANT TO SUCKER SOMEONE INTO A 1ST ROUNDER

Yep, at least the ninth time. Perspective: The Cards drafted Fitzgerald with an in his prime Boldin on the roster, nuff said. Let the Jets have him.

Giants replacing Plax with Boldin wouldn't help them. What made Plax so dangerous was that he bailed out Eli many times. Eli could just throw the ball up and know Plax would come down with it... Boldin is NOT that type of receiver. Most of his work is done in 10 yards where he makes plays after the catch.

the eagles put up more points last year than the(one good)year they had T.O. it's true, i swear! As i recall, the eagles had the lead in the championship game, til the defense blew it. boldin would be a great fit for the birds, b/c defenses can't play bump coverage on him, like they can smaller jackson & curtis.eagles would be better served drafting TE(pettigrew), and DE in the 1st rd. DE is a serious need that's being overlooked by too many people. Defense should be more of a need in the draft than people think.

Boldin can't play in the cold??? Fitz had a lot to do with Boldin's success?? Quit eating the paint chips 5isaking! If you want don't want the birds to pursue Boldin, that's fine, but quit making up things about Boldin. Boldin had close to 1,400 yards and 8 tds in his rookie year BEFORE Fitzgerald was in Arizona!! Saying a player can't play in the cold??? That is the dumbest thing i've ever hear. The Eagles won't get Boldin because they won't trade the draft picks, but this guy is a stud and they should get him!

This is a Pro Bowler...Tuff over the middle, and hard to bring down...Stop whinning about whether he can't play in the cold....This guy can free up other receivers like he did for Fitzgerld. Give up a 1st & 5th, and get a running back in the First Round.
