Report: Eagles, Reid close to extension

Regardless of what happens in today's game against the Falcons, or the rest of the season, it looks like Andy Reid isn't going anywhere.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported this morning that Reid and the Eagles are "very close" to a long-term contract extension. According to Schefter, the deal could be announced as early as this week.

Reid's current deal goes through next season, but since training camp, it has appeared unlikely that the Eagles would allow him to go into 2010 without some kind of deal in place.

Joe Banner has said all along that one game, or one season, does not change the organization's view of Reid.

"Andy could have a bad week, have a bad year, and that wouldn't change the fact that he's in the upper echelon of coaches in this league, and we feel lucky to have him," Banner said during a TV interview in October. "So, at whatever point, I'm sure that that issue will be resolved."

Reid, who also serves as the Birds' executive vice president of football operations, is in his 11th season as the Eagles' head coach. He was last extended during the 2004 season.
