Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Cowboys have traded for Lions wide receiver Roy Williams.

UPDATE: The trade is official and being reported by several media outlets.

Here's what it took to get Williams so you can decide if the Eagles had this much to offer and should have pulled the trigger:

A first-, third- and sixth-round pick in the 2009 draft.

The Lions also included a seventh-rounder in 2009.

Rumors had been swirling today about the possibility of the Chiefs dealing tight end Tony Gonzalez. Both the Giants and the Eagles had been mentioned as possible destinations, but he's not going anywhere, Herm Edwards announced at a news conference.

In other news...

Cowboys cornerback Pacman Jones has been suspended indefinitely. Didn't see that one coming, huh? According to the Dallas Morning-News, 'indefinitely' means at least four games. Jones had an altercation with a team bodyguard last week, which the league described as an alcohol-related physical altercation.

The Redskins have reportedly signed running back Shaun Alexander.

And as reported by both Birds' Eye View and Eagletarian, the Eagles have cut Tony Hunt and signed linebacker Tracy White. A couple notes on this:

1. Colleague and Birds fan Mike Potter after he heard the news: "How are they going to spin this one? 'We believe the acquisition of White is as big, if not bigger, than the Cowboys' acquisition of Roy Williams.'" I think many of you probably share his thoughts.

2. Sympathies to my buddy Lemur, a Penn State grad and an Eagles fan. Unfortunately, he received a Hunt authentic jersey from his girlfriend a couple years ago since he was such a big fan of the running back in college. Said Lemur in an e-mail: "I feel sick."

Who cares? The Eagles just signed Tracy White, their 400th special teams "acquisition" this year! Sigh.

Reid's got the mind of plant! Let's see, he misses Randy Moss (twice), misses Plaxico Burress (only once, though), now he misses Roy Williams (to the Cowboys no less). I am beginning to think Reid is a Cowboy who has infiltrated the Eagles at one of their highest levels. He trades out of the first round to take Kolb, allowing the Cowboy to draft DeMarcus Ware. (How's that working out for us?) He trades out of the first round again (yeah, that’s twice), and misses Felix Jones (a real Westbrook-type player), then trades for Booker (the fine addition he is). Would somone please do a background check on Andrew Reid. I'm laying odds he was born in Irving, TX.

Help me out fellow Iggles fans. Am I wrong for wanting us to now lose the rest of our games, so Lurie will finally have a reason to GET RID of Banner and his buddy Andy Reid?!?! Those dudes make me nauseous. They have no heart, take no risks, and think that being 9-7 or 10-6 is like winning a freakin Super Bowl!!!!!!! No Tony Gonzalez for a 3rd rounder? No Ocho Cinco? No Anquan Boldin? I mean you don't want to try ANYTHING?!?!?!?!?!

How can the Cowboys have Owens and Williams. It doesnt make sense why the Eagles front office cannot bring in a star WR. If you bring it one with the right attitude it wont mess up our team. I just dont get it

THE COWBOYS ARE DESPERATE!! They gave up a 1st, 3rd, and 6th round pick for an underacheiving WR. If the Eagles gave up that much for Williams, Reid and co. would get lambasted again. The Lions were just trying to see who was stupid enough to bite, and it was the Cowboys. TO complains about getting 1/3 of the plays directed towards him? How is he gonna feel with another WR to compete with? Plus, the boys have no one to throw to either WR so don't everyone get too worked up.

I love how we covet our draft picks so much that we can't use them to get players in free agency that have proven themselves in this league. Instead we just draft more and more players so that we can release them in the future after they fall flat on their face. I'm all about building from within but you need balance between the two options

I feel they think they are smarter the eveyone else. They put such a high value on their draft picks and seldom do they work out. why not for once trade for an established player. What do they have to lose? It is obvious that the team is not as talented as they want us to think and whos fault is that. I'm not saying that what the cowgirls gave up was worth it but there were deals that the birds could have done to upgrade their team up but were so afraid of giving up precious draft picks. If it is true that they could have got T.G. for a 3rd round pick then they are truly fools. I am not a Reid basher but perhaps his time has come.

it amazes me in this day and age that an organization that has NEVER tasted a Super Bowl Victory but has come so close, and still is only a few players away... would not sell their souls to do so.... Its sickening, its disgusting, its donw right wrong.... tony g - failed, Roy W - failed, Anquan - Failed, Randy Moss - Failed... obviously ya gotta give up a little more here boys and with 2 first rounders... you werent able to pull this off??????? The problem is - Lurie, Reid, Banner - they are not Philadelphia Natives - they make money and thats the bottom line... They just dont get it. Its pathetic.

The Eagles would rather be good for years to come then risk giving up draft picks for the potential to be great and win a Superbowl. Give up the draft picks for Roy Williams! You just cut one of your 3rd round picks and always trade your 1st round picks so these draft picks are obviously not that valuable. McNabb and Westbrook only have so many years left, the NFC is weak, take a shot. Makes me so mad.

You guys are crazy. It was a desperation move by the cowboys after losing 4 of their top players this week. The NFC east is wide open right now.

and all the eagles fans continue to buy/support the product. your all dumb to think they would change anything as long as their hands are still in all the fans pockets. it's called smart business planning... when you can continually get someone to pay for a mediocre product and profit from it, why change anything?

Hey pditty you idiot they do have a star WR (in the making) - his name is Jackson and he's among the leaders already - as a rookie. Friggin' Tony Hunt gets cut and you idiots lose your collective minds again. Get over it. Good teams lose football games. This is a good football team. T. Gonzalez lame leg and all coming in without any grasp of the O is gonna be the difference? Please.

Clearly everyone here posting about money and all that nonsense has not a sense of business about you - especially on how to run a successful franchise. Winning is what matters. You win, you earn. You lose, you lose money. Write it down. Look at the earning of the franchise. In the last five years what year came up short? 2005. Noboby in the stands means no beer sales, no hat sales, no parking revenue, etc. Feck you people are ridiculous.

THe cowboys look like the old 49ers now!! Greit job Andy!! I guess you considered Roy Williams overrated, or did you just not want to hurt your teams feelings by getting him? Wait, you probably could not pay the price since trading your future first rounders away. I really question your judgement. Mr. Lurie!!!, time for CHANGE!!!

Murrayman, what evidence do you have that they are trying to win, they are 1 game below .500 since the S.B. That's where the frustration is on this board, no first rounders for two years, letting go of good players like Stallworth, Spikes etc. getting second tier players in free agency and then this big fat middle to the fan base in getting something they have been begging for the last three years! Ever since Ray Rhodes and Tom Modrak left, A.R. has brought the quality of the organization to a second tier team. I would so rather have Jery Jones as an owner then the failed movie producer

The Roy Williams deal doesn't tick me or most people off, its the Tony G deal. If it it was a 1st round pick KC wanted, the Birds really needed to upgrade that position. What kind of message does this send to B West and the rest of the team? They (Owner/mgmt) surely don't care about winning now!

No one is going to boycott this team, including myself, as we love the team on the field....unfortunately. It's the front office and coaching staff we cannot tolerate (play calling). Someone needs to get chewed on the fact that Roy Williams is now in the NFC East wearing an overly effeminate star on his head. This just shouldn't be the case. YES, I WOULD like to see them use those draft picks to get Williams...you know, the ones we were only going to blow on more line backers and a backup for Max Jean Gilles. Hundred bucks say they DON'T draft a kicker in the third round next season. OR a receiver. Anyone game?

I have been a loyal Eagles fan since 1960. I guess I should be happy that I witnessed one championship (1960)in all these years. I am also very frustrated. As the other teams in the NFL East continue to add on super bowl championships, the Eagles are the only team in the division that has not won at least one. I hate to say it, but I do not see them ever winning a championship with Andy Reid as the coach and general manager. They are no closer to winning one than when he arrived in Philadelphia 10 years ago.

Relax about the Eagles not going after Roy Williams, everybody... Roy Williams 17 Rec, 232 Yds, 1 TD ~~ Hank Baskett 17 Rec, 245 Yds, 2 TD. Bottom line is the Cowboys grossly overpaid for a marginal receiver. Was nobody else an Eagles' fan between the early 80's and the late 90's? The Reid-McNabb era has been wonderful from my point of view. Smart, though unpopular decisions, have kept this team in the hunt year after year. I don't always agree with everything they do, but it could be worse- a lot worse. Go Birds!

Check Roy's stats 17 rec, 232 yds, 1 td, not a great year; DJAX by comparison, 20 rec 433 yds, 1 td (should be 2). Williams is an inconsistent player at best. Plus he will only contribute to TO's eventual implosion.

bryneb; First have you seen what Roy Williams is working with? Perhaps the worst O-Line and q.B. in the country, he is constantly being double teamed. And since the S.B. we are 1 game under .500 while the rest of the division is loaded up with good talent, how exactly are we being competative staring up form the bottom of the division? We haven't won a divisionla game yet and we 2-4 in it last year. Stop being a sheep and open your eyes

Thanks gordy, there is zero comparison between Jon Kitna and the Lions O-line and McNabb, Birds. Williams and DeSean would have been something we would be looking back on years from now. Instead it will be "remember when we almost had Williams and he went to Dallas and punched T.O. in the jaw on national television?" Ahhhhh, the Birds front office. Ed Snider is only across the street, I suggest you give him a call.

Davetheherman; my fear (and I am being halfway serious here) is that the rotund one will trade one of our first rounders next year for two 2nd rounders to Dallas. He has got to be the worst G.M. of all time. I am just so tired of being the Washington Generals in this division. Please somone throw the real bucket of water in Andy's face!

This is why the Cowboys,Redskins and Giants have won multiple Super Bowls and the Eagles have won 0. Those teams make moves and draft players that put them in position to win. The Eagles just want to compete and build a "systems". That "system";by the way has produced 0 Super Bowl wins in Andy Reid's 10 years.

I root for the Eagles but like many of the posters on here, am disgusted at Eagles Management for their attitude for just being good enough to put fannies (us) in the seats, buy merchandise, pay PSL's, etc and this is what we get. As long as we continue to do this and sell out tickets, management will not change. They only way to force a change is not to buy tickets, etc and then force them to make a change, just like what we did to the Phillies. We forced them to get rid of the dope Ed Wade. As much as I hate the Cowboys, you have to respect the owner because he wants to put a good product that will win no matter what. We are certainly the Gold Standard all right, 0 Super Bowls.

i cannot believe the eagles could not match the Dallas offer! Do they think that they will find a pro bowl prosepect at those positions in the draft? Look at their history. Unless they trade for Randy Moss, it's time for Andy to let someone else make those decisions. You think?

I have been an Eagles fan for a long time. I just wanted to say that I am sorry. I am sorry that this organization is more interested in about making a profit than winning the Super Bowl and they refuse to commit to excellence. They constantly put McNabb in positions that no other top QB in the league has to deal with that being trying to win it all almost all by yourself. The fact that the Cowboys have RW is just the icing on the cake that clearly illustrates the commitment of Jerry Jones and 'steady as she' goes mentality of JL and AR. AR's personnel moves are as predictable as his play calling and I feel sorry for McNabb and I hope they trade him to a team like Chicago who at least seems serious about their commitment. The Eagles are only concerned about doing just enough to be competitive and keep their fans interested, not winning championships. I leave you with this Manning has Wayne and Harrison, Palmer has Johnson and,Houshmandzadeh, Romo has Owens and now Williams, Brady has Moss and Welker, Eli Manning has Burress and Toomer, Rivers has Chambers, Jackson and Gates, Warner has Boldin and Fitzgerald, Cutler has Royal and Marshall and what does McNabb have just a bunch of Andy's guys, no wonder LJ can't get open......it's sad.

I am getting so sick and tired of the Eagles and their egotistical attytude. This is a guy who is in the prime of his career who would give McNabb and eventually Kolb a prime time target for years. So they sit on their content arses and watch as one of their rivals drops 3 picks in next years draft to get a premier wide receiver. HEY EAGLES, there is a reason that the Cowboys have all those rings - even when they are good they are not afraid to spend the money or use untested draft picks to make themselves even better.

You people must have forgotten what it was like before Andy Reid got here. The Eagles have been consistent winners for most of his career. Sure he's stodgy and plays it save too much but the Eagles have a chance at the playoffs every season. I am growing tired of McNabb's panicky passes thrown at the feet of 6'4 receivers and his refusal to run under almost any circumstance. It may be time for him to move on.

Jerry needs those cowgirls to get to the SB -So he can make that money to pay for the new stadium-But at least he is trying and he can judge talent-or has people who work for him that can judge quality talent—I don’t know what we have in Philly-They can only judge -O line talent or players who have maybe one year left in them.

What people are not getting is Williams will play better now--Since he is on a winning team and a team that reside in Texas. Williams also likes to play in a state that he used to play in college. Second Williams is a deep threat and the cowgirls have missed that when they lost Glen-So of course he will help the cowgirls -Heck he could have helped us .Since we thought we had a deep threat with GLewis, but Mr. Scary didn’t turn out the way we wanted.
