Update 2 (5:29 p.m.): Sal Paolantonio reports that the Eagles have made an offer for Anquan Boldin. Per Paolantonio, the Eagles offered a second-round pick in 2010, a third-round pick this season and Winston Justice. ESPN's Pedro Gomez, who is in Arizona, reports that the Jets and Giants have pretty much dropped out, but the Ravens and Eagles remain interested.

Update (4:56 p.m.): A league source tells The Inquirer's Bob Brookover that the ESPN report is "BS."

From earlier:

It's been more than 24 hours since we posted an Anquan Boldin item here at MTC so I figured it was time for another update.

This one comes courtesy of ESPN's Sal Paolantonio.

Two sources tell Paolantonio that the Cardinals have reduced their asking price for Boldin, which was originally a first- and a third-round pick. Arizona is now said to be looking for a second-round pick and other considerations.

The Eagles are among three teams that have shown new interest, according to the report.

The other two are the New York Jets and the New York Giants.

However, Cardinals GM Rod Graves told the team's Web site that the team could still bring Boldin back.

“We won’t trade (Boldin) unless it’s for commensurate value,” he said. “...We are a strong football team with him, and the probability of him remaining with us is pretty high.”

The question is -- what does Graves consider commensurate value?

Yesterday, an Eagles source told The Inquirer's Bob Brookover that the Birds were not in the mix for Boldin. But, of course, things can change quickly this time of year.

Meanwhile, don't forget that I'll be hosting a live chat during the first round of the draft Saturday. It looks like it could be shaping up to be one of the more exciting drafts we've seen in recent years.

And thanks to friend and loyal MTC reader Bener for the ESPN link. I've added the video report below.

You are all overvaluing Reggie Brown. Nobody wants the Eagles' crappy players.

Not true. For value, if you want to get an extra 4 this year, the asking price is a 3 next year, not a 4 next year.

A 3rd round pick next year is equivalent to a 3rd round pick. It's not equivalent to a 4th round pick this year. The only reason it wouldn't be this year because the Eagles wouldn't want to trade both their 2nd and 3rd picks in the same draft. Hate to break the news to the Reggie Brown haters but people around the NFL think more of Brown than Eagles fans do. The Ravens are out of the running...they have less than 1 million in cap room...they can't afford Boldin. The Titans have offered a 2nd round pick and a player. They have one advantage since they are in the AFC but they have a horrible passing offense...they are a defensive, run oriented team...can't imagine Boldin would want to play there.

Does anyone actually believe that Cards would want Reggie Brown? I constantly see people saying the Eagles should include him in their offer. If anything offering Brown reduces the value of any trade offer given his contract. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Cards don't trade Boldin anywhere, he's got two years left on his contract and they can tell his agent "we tried to trade him and no one wants to pay him what he's asking."

The 3rd is next year, which is the equivalent of a 4th this year.

Taking out the Justice part...if the Eagles offered a 2nd and 3rd round pick, then that's already significantly more than the Giants offered for Edwards (a 2nd and 5th), particularly because we are several spots ahead of them in the draft order. If the Eagles really made this offer, there is no way that any can reasonably call that a token offer. I think that's too high...I wouldn't be comfortable with more than a 2nd and a 4th.

Hmmmm, a 2nd and a 3rd rounder still seems steep. Have no idea why the Cards would be interested in Justice but that sounds like the kind of thing the Cards would do, lol.

Haha, Winston Justice. The Eagles made that offer so when they don't get Boldin they can say they made their best offer, but were rejected. Why didn't they just offer a second and a flaming bag of poop?

The Eagels made an offer!! - objective achieved. Just like the offer for Randy Moss all this gets you is the follow up press release ...we tried.... we honestly tried .....we made what we thought was a fair & just blah blah blah that didn't work out so we're moving on......

Winston Justice??? No subways in Arizona, why would they need a turnstile?

2009 2nd, Booker, Brown, Justice, Klecko, all of our 5ths, Reid , Glock & 2 8balls from Reid's sons. That should do it.

The local writers are the last ones to get the news. Remember the Michael Smith report about the McNabb meeting? The local writers tried to downplayed as a rumor. It happened. It seems to me that sources are more forecoming with the national media that with local guys. If Sal says his sources told him Arizona lower the asking price, I believe him.

I could see Andy and co. parting with a second and a player... presumably a receiver, but all the assumptions are that it will be Reggie Brown. I could see the Cardinals asking for Avant or Baskett instead.. likely Avant. Call it a hunch. That and maybe an additional later round pick (5th-ish). We'll see, but the Eagles should be able to outbid the Giants by virtue of higher picks in each round, and after that... who knows. All depends on how badly Arizona wants to rid themselves of their headache.

I would give the Cards a No# 3 and 2 5th rounders for Boldin. Then take Moreno at No# 21. He is a Stud I watched him at Georgia. I live outside Atlanta , but Bleed Eagle Green. Paul VI H.S. 1976

I know Reid probably won't do it because they said they were fine at WR and of course they can't get Boldin because that would indicate that they were in NOT in fact "fine", but I love fantasizing about watching McNabb, Boldin, D Jackson, K Moreno and Westbrook terrorizing opposing defenses on Sundays.

Why do people think that the Cardinals would be tempted if the Eagles throw in Reggie Brown? He stinks. Avant or Baskett would probably be more appealing at this point.

The question is not what it takes to get him but what it takes to sign him. He must want too much and that is why the Cards haven't been able to trade him. Everyone agrees he's a talent but he must want too much. He does have some issues and look at his agent.

If you put Reggie Brown in the deal, you better turn that 2nd into a 1st! Even Warner doing the Lord's work behind center couldn't resurrect Brown's career.

titans going after him...rumor is Lendale white and a 2nd rounder for boldin.

Eagles fans can dream on but Andy isn't trading his 2nd for a 28 year old WR who's stats are declining. He'd rather waste it on a young potential bust like Reggie Brown.

Nope, the report says a 2nd round pick and "other considerations". I agree jmmdk5, throw Reggie Brown in with a 2nd rounder...heck, I'd even trade a 2nd, Reggie Brown AND a 5th or 6th rounder.

Nobody is offering them a 1st, thats why they lowered it... Also only a few teams can fit him under the cap so Cards cant be picky.

2nd and the Browns (Reggie and Sheldon) for Boldin and a 5th. That would also allow you to use the multiple 5th rd picks to trade up.

2nd rounder, 5th rounder, reggie brown and whatever late round pick in 2010... Take Moreno in the 1st. If this happens i could careless what they do with the rest of the draft.

The ESPN article says the Cards are asking for a 2nd round pick and "other considerations". Hard to tell if that means other draft picks and/or players. If the Giants were willing to trade a 2nd and 5th for Edwards, it's gotta be at least that much for Boldin. The Eagles are in better draft position than the Giants. The Jets needs their draft picks more than the Eagles or Giants so you have to think that they can be outbid.
