Report: Browns showing interest in Gocong

Yesterday, Chris Gocong signed his restricted free-agent tender.
But that doesn't mean he'll be with the Eagles next season.
An NFL source tells Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post that the Browns have had "preliminary discussions" with the Eagles about acquiring the outside linebacker.
As you know if you are a frequent reader of MTC, my feeling is that the Eagles have never really found a way to use Gocong in a position where he could have success. And I don't see that changing here. He had one sack last season and four in the last three.
A trade would not be surprising at all, and it will be interesting to see if Gocong finds success rushing the quarterback in a different system.
Cleveland obviously has the Tom Heckert connection and employs a 3-4 defense.
Last season, Gocong was replaced by rookie seventh-round pick Moise Fokou on the strong side. There was the failed experiment of trying Gocong in the middle, which was probably unfair to him (although the Eagles didn't really have a lot of options at the time).
If the Birds do deal Gocong, the strong-side job could fall to Fokou. But then again, given the amount of trade activity we could see in the coming weeks, there's a chance the starting strong-side LB isn't currently on the roster. Last year, they were willing to give the job to a seventh-round pick, so it stands to reason they could rely on a rookie there again in 2010.
And in case you missed it, we updated yesterday's post with comments DeSean Jackson made about the Eagles' quarterback situation while at the Sixers' game last night. Nothing too exciting. Similar remarks to LeSean McCoy and Brent Celek.
Much more coming later.

Keep him for at least 1 more year, but as a pass rush specialist in that Joker position on obvious passing down/situations. He has been misused his entire career by dropping back into coverage at SAM, let him move around the DL, sometimes with his hand in the dirt and sometimes standing up, and let him use his speed to get to the QB. He could be nasty. If nothing else, he could improve his value in a potential trade after this year. The Reddgie
Does anyone see a pattern here? How many guys has Reid traded for, drafted, or signed, that can't play? With few exceptions, Reid has failed miserably the last 5 years. PhilCali- I'd take a 4th round pick for him. ChrisM
This will be good for Gocong. He fits much better as a 3-4 pass rusher than a 4-3 linebacker. The Eagles never used him properly so it should not be a big blow if they trade him. mat719
I'll drive him to the airport if he needs a ride... Phront_Runner

Your screen name is "doodoo" and you're calling someone else dim-witted? Funniest.Post.Ever. amg- This is one of the best drafts in recent years. A 6 could be a 4 in a normal draft. EL Zorro
- It'll be nice if we can get a 4th for him a draft John Skelton, the 6-5 256 pound QB from Hofstra if he's still around. The kid could be the steal of the draft. A 150.0 rating in 2010 after a 127 in '07 and 129 in '08, plus 26 TD to 10 INT in 2010. Those are pretty good numbers no matter where he played. EL Zorro

Gocong was tendered this week at a 3rd rounder. I believe this means if the Browns take him they owe the Eagles a 3rd rounder. That would be a good deal for us, because I think he should have been drafted originally in the 5th or 6th round. tacklinjoe
From what I am reading, Lil Howie and his ridiculous trade demands are the reason none of our veterans have been moved (see Mike Silver’s column on Yahoo) as yet. Stop trying to fleece everyone Lil Howie, trades should be designed in a mutually beneficial manner. No one will want to trade with you in the future if everyone thinks you are just going to try to hit homeruns at their expense every time. The Reddgie- worst draft pick in recent memory. when have you EVER heard an announcer call his name for making a play??
Its truly amazing that Mcnabb is having a hard time bringing a 2nd rounder and yet people think Gocong can bring a 3rd rounder..Gocong is the classic example of a player that is a step short of making a play..kind of like Mamula. We'd be so much better with another linebacker rather than him. bradco
