Report: Eagles take look at Hollis Thomas
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
Hollis Thomas could be making a return to Philly, a league source tells Scout.com's Adam Caplan.
Per the report, the Eagles recently brought in the veteran defensive tackle for a visit and a physical, but they didn't offer him a contract.
Not sure about you all, but when I think of big Hollis, I think insane facial hair, piercings and entertaining sideline hijinx when he was mic'd up.
But maybe you have different memories.
Thomas first joined the Eagles in 1996 and spent the first nine seasons of his career here. He caught on with the Saints in 2006 and spent the last three seasons in New Orleans.
Last year he appeared in eight games after missing time with a triceps injury.
In 2006, Thomas was suspended four games for violating the league's steroid policy. He appealed the suspension, saying the violation was the result of his asthma medication, but lost.
The Birds currently have the following DTs on their roster: Broderick Bunkley, Mike Patterson, Trevor Laws, Dan Klecko, Jervonte Jackson.
Victor Abiamiri and Darren Howard also play inside on certain packages.
They can't be serious! Hollis Thomas, an overweight load with only mediocre talent 12-years ago, and they're thinking of bringing him back? I seriously doubt it. Aren't they consulting Jim Johnson? 1republican
Comment removed.- 1republican, you've lost your mind! Hollis was a solid player on the inside when it came to stopping the run and may be an upgrade over Klecko and the whoever Jackson is. cg
Why not? He can clog up the middle against the run. Better than Laws, Klecko and Jackson... 93phils
I agree that he is worthess and I hate his antics.. same antics that makes mcnabb a poor leader maximus
Eagles are building on youth and speed. I thought Klecko played with a tremendous of energy as a pass rushing tackle once they stopped the fullback experiment with him. Seems to me they stopped the run very well last season. Hollis was dogging it when he left so who's to say he won't loaf again. Left him go to Washington with all the other overrated players. dapmman
Good work, Maximus. But you were kind of late: usually when it comes to articles that have absolutely nothing to do with McNabb, it only takes two posts before some dooshbag like you has the courage, fortitude and intelligence to slam our quarterback. ON TO THE POINT: leave Hollis Thomas in Cajunville with his tendancy to over eat, the guy is a waste of time. elektrika
Dam it, this is football, not some sort of game, how dare they have FUN!! WOLBC
Remember that hit on a sneaking-up-the-middle Michael Vick near the goaline of the NFC championship game in 2004? CRUSHING BLOW behind the line of scrimmage. Leegles
Camp body...BIG one. don julio
Wow people... ever heard of a thing called depth? He's already familiar with the defensive packages and still is pretty decent at clogging up the middle. Would not be a bad move at all. Phillydave
Wouldn't be a bad move...I think I read this on GCobb a month ago right after it happened. K.D.
great move, yea sure, we can watch him catch his breath. please! JACK V

I would rather see them use the roster spot on a young guy with potential, rather than a older guy whose big plays had a lot of mediocre ones surrounding it. amblereagles

Fill in for half a dozen plays......why not. Big fat guys plug the middle. NC Dennis
He is NOT better than Trevor Laws! wingslax35
Leegles...My memory exactly...He destroyed Vick!! Living_Legend
He's too fat...and slow...and dumb Big Ragu- Klecko will make the team again - let's remember that he was trying out at FB in training camp, got shifted to DT in the last two weeks, MADE the team and also MADE THE DT ROTATION. Klecko's intense at DT and will make his way back into the rotation in 2009 after getting moved in 2008. dpcoz
1republican: Hollis Thomas was the best run stopper the Eagles have had in the past 10 years. Don't know if he has anything left or not. The fact that the Eagles let him leave without offering a contract isn't a good sign. p-diddy

I have a wait and see attituce. He's been around for a long time however, if he can do the job well so be it. It will be up to the younber studs to make Hollis go away. RICKY101
Can the Eagles be that weak and cheap for DL depth. Reid must need someone to eat Big Macs with him. The Marco Islander
Phillydave, you are spot on. mikeyhigs
He would be a legit DT in the rotation. All the other stuff about him is talk. MJPD345
He called the Eagles for a look. Banner likes it, cheap camp body. Unless something is wrong with the other guys, will be a cup of coffee if that. oldBird
Hollis Thomas???? Is he still alive???? merlinknghts

A young guy with potential rather than some older guys? I've got news for you--this team has PLENTY of that. See--Patterson, Bunkley, Laws. They actually DO need a veteran in there, and why not a huge guy who actually didn't play all that poorly in New Orleans? moderndaymesh
In a season we're trying to compete for the super bowl, why would we want a young player with potential, when we can sign a known commodity? A veteran who knows the system, is a big body and can compete for depth at an important position. drjimmy
A young guy undrafted free-agent isn't going to beat out Klecko for a spot on this team. They are trying to provide some competition for Klecko, add some depth for training camp and the pre-season, so why not bring in a guy who already knows the system. It's not like they are talking about paying him $10 million per year and making him a starter. Some of you guys are so freakin neurotic. Make sure you don't forget to take your pills, relax, and step back off the ledge. JimG
Eagles needed depth and competition at DT. Not sure Thomas will make the team, but he at least pushes Klecko and Laws in camp. Rombo
