Reid: Donovan's our QB

Amid speculation that he and the front office may not be in full agreement about the Eagles' quarterback situation, Andy Reid once again threw his support behind Donovan McNabb today.

"I haven't changed my opinion, and I don't think they [Joe Banner and Howie Roseman] have either," Reid told Mike Missanelli on 97.5 The Fanatic. "They've agreed and mentioned kind of the same things I've said. Donovan's our quarterback."

When pressed by Missanelli about what would happen if a team were to offer a first-round pick for McNabb, Reid predictably sidestepped the question.

"I've got the greatest situation in the National Football League," he said. "I've got three quarterbacks that I know can start and have started and done well so I'm not in any hurry to get rid of any of these quarterbacks at all."

But would the franchise really play McNabb on a one-year deal and make him the starter in 2010 without agreeing on an extension?

"We're not even at that point," Reid said. "He has another year left. Actually all three of 'em do and that's what we do with it. We haven't even gotten to that point yet."

Of course they haven't.

Reid later said "there's a pretty good chance" all three QBs would be back.

He also talked about free agency and the Eagles' lack of activity on the first day. The Birds extended Leonard Weaver and released linebacker Will Witherspoon, but that was it.

Missanelli asked Reid why the Bears ended up with Julius Peppers instead of the Eagles.

"We feel like we've got a pretty good defensive line and we just didn't go that direction with it, with Julius," Reid said. "It'll work out good for both teams, I think. He'll do well there, and we'll be fine on the defensive line for us."

He certainly did not sound like the Birds were setting up something major in free agency. Reid talked about the age of this group of players and the unique situation with an uncapped year.

"It's a little different group," Reid said. "Howie and I are analyzing it and we've looked at all the guys. Maybe we make a move down the road here. We were very focused in on making sure that we got Weaver signed, and we've been talking to [Jason] Avant and doing that deal there so these are people we would love to keep on our football team."
