Peters, McNabb and ex-Eagles

On Friday, Jason Peters was named to the AP All-Pro first team for the first time in his career.

Peters was dominant and consistent in the run game throughout the season and kept some of the best defensive ends in the league away from Michael Vick.

According to Football Outsiders, Peters allowed just one sack all season (to Jason Taylor). Pro Football Focus has that number at three. But either way, he held up well in pass protection all season under Howard Mudd.

Then there's the issue of penalties. Peters was called for 10 penalties in his first season with the Eagles, drawing the ire of many fans. Last season, he reduced that number to seven. And according to PFF, it was seven again this season. Their numbers show that 22 offensive tackles had more penalties than Peters in 2011, and 31 other tackles had at least seven.

In other words, Peters was above average in that category also.

McNABB ON TV

Donovan McNabb will be a guest analyst on ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown tomorrow. We've known for years that McNabb was looking to pursue a career in TV after his playing days were over.

And that time may have very well arrived.

McNabb was released by the Vikings in early December, but apparently no team wanted to sign him for the final stretch of the season. He turned 35 in November. In six starts with the Vikings, McNabb completed 60.3 percent of his passes for 1,026 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. Minnesota was just 1-5 in those games before handing the offense over to rookie Christian Ponder.

We'll find out this offseason if any team takes on McNabb as a backup in 2012.

CHECKING IN ON EX-EAGLES

I've seen quite a few ex-Eagles pop up in various articles/lists in recent weeks.

For example, according to Football Outsiders' charting numbers, Dimitri Patterson had an outstanding season with the Browns. His 67 percent success rate was seventh in the NFL among cornerbacks who were targeted at least 28 times.

Chris Sprow put out a list on ESPN.com of the best players per dollar at each position. One of his defensive ends was Chris Clemons, and his outside linebacker was Antwan Barnes.

Clemons has had 11 sacks in each of the past two seasons with the Seahawks. In two seasons with the Eagles (2008-2009), he had seven. The Birds traded Clemons and a fourth-round pick to Seattle for Darryl Tapp.

Barnes only played a couple games with the Eagles back in 2010 before he was released. With the Chargers, he had 11 sacks this season.

I would love to see McNabb backing up Vick next year...also, I knew they shouldn't have gotten rid of Patterson and Clemons....big mistake...why does Hanson make this team, but not Patterson?? And Barnes? Who knew...who is our evaluator on defense?? Imagine having these guys over Hanson, any of our other outside LBs and Parker???

The line coach for a couple years, Segrest, was terrible as a line coach and, previously, as the special teams coach. Clemons, Babin, and, apparently, the entire defensive line underachieved with him. LBs and CBs still aren't getting coached up very well with Caldwell and Zordich.

The evaluators on defense are Roseman, Castillo and for the d-line, Washburn. I seriously doubt Reid asserts his opinion when it comes to defensive players.

good example of poor player personnel evaluations. You can count Babin on this list too as we let him go cheap only to have to pay a heafty contract to get him back again. Petterson was always a decent DB and at least could tackle which is more then you can say about the current group and how do let Barnes go and keep the group we have now??? LB coach and secondary coaches need to be replaced as a start and add Juan to that group please

It will be interesting to watch if McDope vomits all over the ESPN set tomorrow. His TV analyst debut shouldn't be on NFL Countdown...it should be on The Biggest Loser for various reasons.

McLoad on TV? Ouch, think I'd rather have him throwing at ankles in another time zone. He's way too ugly for TV anyways...

Wasn't Dmitri Patterson thought of as like the worst cornerback ever last year? Wasn't the consensus that he was a large part of why we gave up so many passing touchdowns last year, and stunk in the red zone? And who was really bemoaning Chris Clemons' departure for Darryl Tapp? Fans here are so F.O.S.

FOS is an understatement. The fans on this site just parrot what the media tells them and the media parrots whatever their "inside source" from the Eagles tell them. Good for Clemons but he wouldn't have had 11 sacks here beause he wouldn't have been on the field enough bc he isn't the player that Cole or Babin are so who cares. Patterson: Just because some site grabs some stats and claims a guy had a great season doesn't make it true. He was a part-time player on a team that was 30th in the league against the run. The starters were Haden and good ole Sheldon Brown. Make of it what you will but being the slot DB on passing downs on a team that most teams chose to run the ball down their throats doesn't turn him into a future All-pro. Oh, and Babin doesn't have a monster contract. He outperformed his 6 million by about 8-10 million.

I always said McNabb was going into the hall of fame. I am right, he was, but he isn't now. From what I saw, his work ethic just wasn't there anymore. He was very familar in the Eagles system and it showed but I don't think he studied film like he needed to continue to be successful. If you are getting older and slower, you better get smarter or it is not for long.

Really it is too bad, I would have gone to Canton to see the induction, guess I will just go see Dawkins instead!!!! He is can't miss HOF.

McNabb was a much better QB for Eagles, than the loser Vick...McNabb won many playoff and big games....Vick has never even won a stinkin' playoff game for Eagles...LOL.

This is true, Vick only has 2 career playoff wins in his entire career yet people think he is great, I'll never get it. You can run around and beat bad teams in the regular season but once it gets to tough teams and the playoffs, he can't do it. McNabb was good, was never going to carry the team on his back, but they could have won with him with the right pieces. The Eagles cut their ties at the right time with him, but still have not replaced him.

Vick is a waste of time for the Eagles...and a waste of life as a human being. If he's not in prison (like he should be)...he should be kept in a cage outside. McNabb is a better human being than Vick by far, but a total choking loser that will NEVER be in the HOF. Philly needed a Rocky mentality at the QB position. Unfortunately with McNabb....we got Adrian.

We are all, by nature, clearly oriented toward the basic human values of love and compassion. We all prefer the love of others to their hatred. We all prefer others’ generosity to meanness. And who is there among us who does not prefer tolerance, respect and forgiveness of our failings to bigotry, disrespect, and resentment? The Dalai Lama
