Pats land Haynesworth; Bush to Miami?

POSTED: Thursday, July 28, 2011, 7:26 AM
Albert Haynesworth is headed to New England. (Susan Walsh/AP File Photo)

The Eagles can forget about any plans they might have had to land Albert Haynesworth.

The Redskins defensive tackle is headed to New England. The Patriots have acquired Haynesworth for a fifth-round pick in 2013, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

There had been multiple reports in previous weeks that Washington wanted to trade Haynesworth, rather than release him, because the Redskins didn't want him to land in Philadelphia with Jim Washburn.

They were successful in finding a trade partner, even though the Redskins won't see a return for Haynesworth until the 2013 draft.

My take all along had been that the Eagles should explore the possibility of acquiring Haynesworth if the Redskins released him. A trade seemed too risky, given his history, and the fact that Haynesworth is due a reported $5.4M in 2011.

Defensive end is still a bigger need than defensive tackle. Antonio Dixon was outstanding once he got a chance to play last season, and Mike Patterson is solid next to him. Brodrick Bunkley is in the final year of his contract, and Juan Castillo talked him up earlier this offseason. Trevor Laws needs to build on the improvement he showed in 2010.

FORGET ABOUT BUSH, TOO?

Reggie Bush is taking his talents to South Beach.

The Saints and Dolphins have agreed to trade terms, which are contingent on Bush being able to land a new deal with Miami, according to Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com.

The Eagles had been rumored to be interested in Bush earlier this offseason as well. I've said all along I didn't think he was coming here because Bush would have such a limited role. With that being said, I don't doubt that Andy Reid was intrigued with the idea of adding a new toy to his offense.

I ask again, where is this "aggressive" approach to free agency? Same old song just a different beat. Release Andy and sign Jon Gruden.

Yea, I was wondering where the aggressive part was as well. Things have gone so slowly that it's not too late. But, in no way does the approach look aggressive.

You hate the Eagles FO for not getting Haynesworth or Bush? The Skins weren't going to give him to a division rival and would definitely take less to get rid of their headache elsewhere. It's a good risk for the Pats and one the Eagles probably would have jumped at given the chance but it wasn't gonna happen. C'mon people, this isn't fantasy football where you want every big name out there right? The sky is not falling. Sheesh.

What if the Eagles try to get in contact with the Pats and trade for haynesworth for a 4th round pick. Andy and Bill like to trade ( see the previous 3 drafts) so the Eagles could still Haynesworth but it is a longshot.

Since Trot, Dawk, and Westbrook have gone I'm just at a lost as to trying to connect with this group of Philadelphia Eagles. A passion-less group indeed. Give me a Doug Collins, Dick Vermeil, Allen Iverson, Charles Barkley, Chase Utley type of passion any day of the week.

So the week moves on; no pickups from J"N"B; and no trades from RAJ; just great...

'IP played a quote from Lurie this morning where he said the Eagles were primed and ready to be aggressive. He said that any team that didn't have 3 or 4 guys manning phones and sending offers were going to lose out. Meanwhile, 3 days since the lockout ended, they are 1 of 3 teams to do absolutely NOTHING!! There are so many holes on this team right now, it is pathetic.

There better be a plan in place......right now this team is stripped down. Asante can't play the entire backfield of the defense, LB, DE and DT. Very disappointed thus far. If they get DRC, that is one of about five moves they need to make. By the way.....the Gold Standard team in New England just made a great move and will get max out of Albert.

There are no EAGLES in Philadelphia ONLY PIGEONS! AS much as I am a hometown guy you get jaded about the front office. We as fans see the deficiencies with current personnel and what we would like to see happen. Keep in mind, as we have just witnessed with the lockout...ECONOMICS IS KING, REVENUE IS THE QUEEN, AND SUNDAY AFTERNOON BELONGS TO VEGAS! So, what you and I think is irrelevant...unless you want to come up with a BILLION dollars to buy a team, get used to business as usual !

The Eagles got caught flatfooted on Haynesworth. Now you can see why Patriots have rings and the Eagles don't.

The Eagles plan is simple, wait to see who tears an ACL or MCL so they can get them on the cheaap. Same plan they've had over the years. The gold standard!

Still waiting to see this aggressive plan the Eagles had. Maybe they were just talking about their marketing?

How can people complain about the Eagles not being aggressive? They signed all of their seventh-round picks, didn't they? Go Phils!!!!

This doesnt make any sense Fat Al hated being in DC cause they switched to a 3-4, which is the same defense the Pats play. He is still gonna be unhappy and disruptive. Plus they already have one of the best nose tackles in the game in Wilfork (despite contract issues there, maybe they release him and Birds get him). Still this makes no sense at all and Pats are gonna waste 5 mil on a backup???

I guess the "Big Splash" was signing 10 undrafted free agents. We had that confused with "Free Agents". Sorry, our bad! The Gold Standard still reigns supreme!

Why would any proper Eagles fan want Haynesworth, someone who pretty much disappeared after he got a mammoth payday?

I agree with the majority that the movement by the front office has been dissapointing, to say the least. Why say you will be aggressive when so far you're just siiting back watching other teams make deals? This makes no sense, or are they just waiting for players to get cut or released so thay can go through the recycle bin for players that would be deleted anywhere else. Same song and dance by the front office to sell tickets and get the fans worked up, then going back on their word!Sell the team if you are not sincere about making improvements, but are talking about doing just that all of the time!

The proper description of the football team is the "turkey vultures" because they go for the dead. Trotter is still out there.

Was this team 10-6 and a last drive away from knocking off the eventual Super Bowl champs?? Or were we 4-12?? Reading these comments, I can't tell.

We hate the front office because they are not doing anything. Free Agents are jumping off the board that we can use if we are thinking super bowl.

Philly Mike---Couldn't have said it better. Fans are crazy about nothing at this point. Because we didn't go all out for Charles Johnson. He was going to stay in Carolina all along unless we made him one of the highest paid DE, wanted Julius Peppers money and quite frankly, I don't believe he's worth it. We had no chance at Fat Al and Bush would've been a complete waist of depth. Not enough balls for ALL the egos on our offence if he comes. The Eagles will make the most of this FA period and make out with steals that fans probably never expected but make an immediate impact on our team. CAN'T WAIT!

Some of you are seriously clueless. Which free agents that have signed since the end of the lockout would you suggest we could or should have gotten"! Reggie Bush? Yeah, right. Haynesworth? Puh-lease...the Redskins were not about to release him, which is the ONLY way the Birds could have gotten him. Or are you contending that we should have traded for him, then been on the hook for his salray, with all of our other needs? Serioulsy, man! Who else? Hassleback? Tavaris Jackson? Ha! If you haven't noticed, the truly elite free agents are waiting to see how things shake out. So please, get a clue beofre posting your blind Eagle hate. It's embarrassing.

we missed a good one....incentives and cutting him if it did not work out would be the esy way to solve a push up the middle....and you can bet Belichek will make him tow the line.....Players play for winning coaches and Bill has the rings to prove it......so I guess it is a good thing he did not come here as there are NO rings or SB Trophies...now or in the near future......and please don't rool out those meaningless conference condolence trophies that we won on McNab's legs, not Andy's coaching....

Babin is a short term fix until Graham get healthy. I'am not surprised they got a scond tier free agent DE. Anxious to see who the new backup QB will be; probably Randall Cuningham who could also punt.

So much for Albert coming to the LOSERS! Told you all he wanted a winning team and a Team who actually wins a SUPER BOWL! Good for Albert. Same with Plax......you think he wants any part of a team with no taste in a Super Bowl.........I don't think so! Giants or Steelers!

Once again, the Eagles lose out on a top-notch player like Haynesworth so Slim Andy could draft the likes of Daniel Ne'o'Tesheim.

The Eagles "lose out" on Haynesworth? He wasn't a FA and even if he was, the guy isn't worth half the money he makes. IMO, the Birds inability to stop sitting on their hands actually ended up being a good thing for once.
  • 0 like this / 0 don't   •   Posted 1:18 PM, 07/28/2011
Nugget - Dude, what is wrong with your comprehension skills? THE EAGLES COULDN'T GET HAYNESWORTH, AS THE REDSKINS WERE NOT GOING TO TRADE HIM TO THE EAGLES UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! THAT is why you are clueless, bro...you can't seem to grasp that simple concept. What would you propose the Eagles do? Force the Redskins to trade him to the Eagles? Seriously, think before you spout off.
