Newsday (N.Y.) columnist Arthur Staple ripped into Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb yesterday, calling him a "whiner" and saying he's no Eli Manning:

McNabb and the Eagles flamed out in the NFC Championship game Sunday, the fifth time in McNabb's solid Philly career that he and his team have lost in the semis. The one time they won, the lasting image of McNabb's Super Bowl trip will be him, disoriented and sick, trying (and failing) to lead his team to an upset of the Patriots. That's a big amount of fail at crucial times.

Staple goes on to say that the Eagles' late-season run is good news for Giants fans because it means McNabb and Andy Reid will continue to direct the franchise.

This late-season resurrection by the Eagles may have been the worst thing that could have happened down the Jersey Turnpike. If the Eagles had missed the playoffs, Reid and McNabb could have both been jettisoned and Philly could have started fresh -- maybe even with Steve Spagnuolo at the helm. Instead, it could be the best thing to happen to Giants fans. McNabb might command a new deal and, the bitter playoff loss aside, the Giants have to like their chances with Manning against a 32-year-old McNabb and Philly.

Meanwhile, The Inquirer's Bob Brookover has confirmed a Yahoo report that "Go Cards" and other similar messages were burned into the front lawn of McNabb's Arizona home last week.

Here is the Yahoo report, in which Michael Silver says McNabb took a photo of the damaged lawn and used it for motivation for Sunday's game.

AZFamily.com reports that the incident took place on Saturday night, before the NFC championship game and that one person has been arrested.

If someone had burned "Go Eagles" in to Warners front yard..there would be a 24/7 ESPN command post there and non-stop articles about how we boo Santa..but since its Cards fan that did it, we hear nothing..what a shock

Eli Manning didnt win any rings. A ridiculous running game, amazing o-line, dominating defense, 6'5'' talented reciever, and the luckiest catch in playoff history won that super bowl. Eli Manning is average at best, which showed without Plax down the stretch.

What are all of you talking about? Let's face it, we all hate McNabb. That writer is right. The Giants drove down field with a little over 2 minutes in the superbowl against the Pats and scored a touchdown. All McNabb had to do was get his team in a position to kick a field goal against the Cardnials and couldn't do it. Until he does, he deserves all the flak that comes his way.

3 minutes on the clock and McNabb has to drive the field against the Cardnials.... We are stupid for believing in him and as goofey as he may look Eli kept his composure. McNabb did not. My point is that we all basically hate McNabb but as soon as someone else dumps on him we jump to his defense. Hypocrites! Also did anyone notice that our vaunted defense let the cards go up and down the field at will in the first half. The Giants on the other hand held the PATS to two touchdowns....... The Eagles never do that they have to do. Fact is their veteran leaders (McNabb, Dawkins) choke in big games.

Crybaby New Yorkers. Our 32yo QB knocked your Giants out of the playoffs. Waaaaaa! I bet he does it again next year. And where's all the so-called Cowboy fans? Oh right, we smacked them in the face, too!

Did anyone see Eli turn his shoulders cause he is scared of the rush? McNabb may not have a ring but I would take him any day of the week over that sissy boy Eli.

Manning??? He looked good in one game and you like your chances? Gimme a break! Funny, I was just thinking how the Giants "alleged" dynasty is starting to implode! I feel good about our chances against the shrinking Giants!

Isn't that the same McNabb that just beat the Giants to knock them out of the playoffs? Isn't that the same McNabb that had just put the Eagles ahead Sunday with that pass to Jackson? If the D holds the game is over and he's a hero. Give the guy a decent running game and a big receiver with good hands and if he can't get it done then you can criticize.

"McNabb and the Eagles flamed out in the NFC Championship game Sunday, the fifth time in McNabb's solid Philly career that he and his team have lost in the semis." Correction: he lost for the 4th time in 5 NFC championship games, also meaning that he and his team has won a ton of big games year after year to get to that point. Fact check for the idiot who wrote "All McNabb had to do was get his team in a position to kick a field goal against the Cardnials and couldn't do it." Yeah, the field goal would've been huge, allowing us to lose by 4 points. Look, the guy played brilliantly leading the Birds to 3 straight long td drives, which should've had them up by 3, not 1 (thanks to the botched xtra point attempt.) If the defense did anything other than lay an 8 minute egg on that last drive --just holding them to a fg - he would've just had to lead them to a fg to either win or tie the game. Just a little perspective.
