DeSean Jackson on the cover of SI. (Photo credit / Sports Illustrated)
A friend e-mailed me this column today by Gary Myers of the New York Daily News.

The headline: Believe me, Eagles won't beat the Giants on Sunday.

Here's an excerpt:

They didn't even win 10 regular-season games. They tied their November game with the laughable Bengals, much to the surprise of Donovan McNabb. One week later, McNabb was benched for the second half of a dreadful loss in Baltimore, and it wasn't so he could travel to the NFL offices to be quizzed on the rulebook. The Eagles snuck into the playoffs on the final Sunday after the Bears and Bucs lost and they demolished the Cowboys when Tony Romo was so awful he must have been distracted by the prospect of going on vacation and bumping into Woody Johnson. And in the wild-card round, they were hardly overwhelming against the Vikings, who elected to play the game without a quarterback.

And one more:

It's laughable when people say the Eagles are playing with house money. Why is that? All they have to lose Sunday is their season. They didn't come into the season believing it would be a success if they lost in the divisional round to one of their hated rivals. The Eagles come flying into Giants Stadium but will pack up their season and leave by bus.

Well, I guess it depends on who you ask. Rod Boone of Newsday said in today's live chat that if he had to pick right now, he'd go with the Eagles.

Meanwhile, did you see who's gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated? DeSean Jackson. Jinx? No jinx? What do we think?

Keep in mind it's a regional cover. Darren Sproles and the Chargers are also on a cover in a different part of the country. And so are Larry Fitzgerald and the Cardinals. The Cardinals? Dangerous? Really?

Truly poor journalism. You'd expect more from New York beat writers. They know full well that every Giants/Eagles game come down to the wire. Last 4 years against the NYG: 20-14 Eagles; 36-31 Giants; 16-13 Giants; 16-3 Giants; 23-20 Eagles (Playoffs); 36-22 Eagles; 30-24 OT Giants; 26-23 OT Giants; 27-17 Giants. What we did against the Bengals doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what we did against the Ravens or Redskins. It doesn't matter what we did against the Cowboys or Vikings. These divisional games are a different breed and history should always be taken into account.

Yo Eli10 - Your wife likes the way my Beard tickles her (ryhmes with it)! Without Burres, you suck. Eli will look like Farve on Sunday just throwing it up for grabs. Don't forget Samuel owes you one!

House money....means the Eagles have nothing to lose. They got lucky and snuck into the playoffs after smacking down the Cowgirls.....but...now they mean business. And they will be all business in smacking down the Giants....who have everything to lose....they led the league all year...number 1 seed...the whole bit. The good news for NY fans...the Giants loss will cause them to forget how the Mets choked 2 years in a row.....and, who was it that won the World Series......oh yeah.....the Phillies...god that had to suck for ya....

This NY "writer" and I use that term loosely, doesn't have a clue. He makes a big deal out of the games against the Bengals and Ravens but forgets to mention that the Eagles beat the snot out of the Giants in NY just 2 weeks AFTER the Ravens game. The score in that game was misleading...it was 20-7 when Manning threw a garbage time TD pass with 15 seconds left against a prevent D to make it a 20-14 final. The Eagles are playing much better than the Giants right now...and frankly, the Eagles are a better team...period. Without Burress, the Giants are not scary at all. Burress has been the Eagle-killer over the last few years. I like how the moron gives the Eagles D no credit for shutting down Romo and Jackson in the last 2 games either. He acts like they just walked out, tanked on purpose and handed the game to the Eagles. I wonder what his excuse will be for Manning when he gets pummeled by our D on Sunday.

NewYukkers don't even understand football. They're too busy stealing everyone tax money via TARP. This NY times webpage doesnt even know the gints record in 12-4: http://projects.nytimes.com/nfl2009/matchups/PHI_NYG.

No question, converting a LB into a RB was a good thing along with taking one of our staff to learn the Eagles' D helped the Giants quite a bit. I lost count of all the Staff that have been taken from the Eagles but they have generated depth on the squad and for the first time I can remember all aspects of the team are playing as one. Now a Game Plan can be utilized with all confidence. I expect a chess match and expect the Eagles have more to prove that they are the rightful proprietors of the NFC East.

He makes a joke about McNabb not knowing overtime rules? I'd expect something more timely or at least witty from a New York writer. Oh well. Go Birds.

First, I'm a native New Yorker and lifelong NY Giants fan. Second, I lived in Society Hill and then Queen Village for 12.5 years (as recent as 5 years ago). Simply put, I love both cities. But the facts are: the Giants are the defending Champs and Eli Manning is the reigning Super Bowl MVP. Donovan McNabb has been great for the Eagles for ten years but he neither has a Super Bowl ring or has a Super Bowl MVP trophy. All Giants-Eagles games from the dawn of time are bare knuckle brawls - this will be no different. But the Giants have the better record; have had the better team this year and are now the defending NFC East Divisional Champs. Anyone who says differently is looking through green colored glasses. And who cares about any other sport - this comment section is about Giants-Eagles football - period. And all that matters is the final score - as Tom Coughlin said all last year and this year: talk is cheap - play the game!

It seems kind of funny to me how he mentioned our tie with the Bengals but failed to note their 35-14 LOSS to the lowly Browns. Also, we beat the Vikings last week; how did the Giants do against them in their last game?

He tried to make a big deal about Donovan and his question about the overtime rule. How about Plaxico's ignorance on the law about a concealed weapon? Let's get real here! What is more important, not knowing a football rule or carrying a deadly weapon?!

TrueBigBlue, your WR corps is worse than the Eagles now, how do you feel about that? Since Burress is gone, the only WR on your team with a TD is Toomer. Looks like the team shot it's self in the leg this year...pun intended. Fact is winning the Super Bowl isn't always about who is the BETTER team. Do you mean to tell me the Giants were BETTER than the Patriots last year? If you do you are looking through crap colored glasses, fool. It's about who is hot and playing better. Personally, no one's playing better and hotter than the Eagles. Stay in New York, we don't want you. Let's Go BIRDS!!

I agree with DMACRULES.. This writer sounds scared. The bottom line is the eagles are in the playoffs, regardless of how they got in. The same Vikings, regardless of the circumstances, beat the Giants. So what gives? The game is played on the field and this Sunday we will see who will come out victorious. My hunch is that it will be the Eagles. They are playing much better football as of late. One critical improvement, they are converting on third downs... Their defense, almost flawless.. special teams..improved, offense.. you tell me. Prediction: Eagles 34 Giants 24..
