NFL free agency updates

POSTED: Friday, March 5, 2010, 5:24 AM

Welcome to our live (kind of) blog of today's free agency action.

Here's how this will work.

Rather than create a new post every couple of hours, I decided to use our chat tool to keep you updated. When I see/hear free agency news or have a link to pass along, this is where you'll find it.

Note that this doesn't work like a typical chat where I approve all the comments and questions. I'll take a look at those and will try to answer them, but overall, I want to make this easy to read and follow for those of you trying to keep up with everything.

If you have a link or item that's not included, feel free to e-mail me and I'll take a look.

Enjoy.

Eagles should replace Sheldon Brown with Robinson from the Texans.

Guys Robinson grew up just outside Atlanta .. a falcons fan growing up . . when your drafted you have / almost / no say where you go . . as a free agent you have plenty of say . . He just wants to go ' Home ' . . of course get paid and play for his hometown team . . Tell me just how you fault the eagles for that ?? Too bad he didn't grow up in chester . . .

This is going to suck....Eagles relying on their "sacred" scouting reports where they think other team's leftovers are and will be better for the Birds than they were for their old team. I hate this team sometimes.

Phillyphan55.....where have you been? The Eagles make it exciting every year. I can't remember the last time they didn't do something in free agency. Stop with the negativity.

Kampman would be a nice addition, if the Birds make a strong play for Antrel Rolle. Trading Mac5 to St.Louis (33rd pick) would give them room to draft a lineman and a linebacker early, using the remaining picks to address other needs.

We don't want Kampan! His knee is done and he won't be the same player. I hope Eagles DONT sign him.

Same old song with Lurie and Banner: outside Ricky Waters(just 3 years) Troy Vincent, Runyan,Kearse and Assante, what blue chip FAs have they signed since 94, Lurie's tenure???Remember T.O was a trade and they got him for next to NOTHING and only planned on him for 2 years??

I wonder if free agency dictates what the Eagles do in the draft and at QB. There were two plans I would be OK with going forward. First, if they planned on keeping McNabb, it would make sense to go after some of the top free agents to push this team over the top. Peppers at DE, Rolle at FS, maybe even push the envelope for Cromartie at CB (a former pro bowl CB, 25 years old, for a 3rd rounder??? I'd take the chance...). But that's not happening. That would lead to the second option, trade McNabb for a high pick, use the first 3 picks on DE, OT, and FS respectively, go with Kolb, and build around the young nucleus on this team. The option I see most likely occuring? Not trading McNabb, not adding any pieces via free agency. I would consider this offseason an abject failure. This team built as is and supplemented through the draft would not win a championship next year. Macho Harris is not the answer to FS and Abriamri will not step up at DE. They need to take a page out of the Phillies play book and fix glaring needs by going for some top flight talent. Its very frustrating to watch.
