Mock roundup: Will Eagles take Moreno?
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
Here's a roundup of some of the mock drafts out there, with notes on who the Eagles are projected to select.
There are obviously hundreds of mock drafts online, but I tried to hand-pick the ones from some of the major sites.
With less than four days remaining, the majority of draft pundits believe Georgia running back Knowshon Moreno will be the Eagles' pick.
Here's the roundup:
Wes Bunting of The National Football Post has the Eagles picking Moreno with the 21st pick:
Brian Westbrook turns 30 this year, and the Eagles should be in the market for his future replacement. Enter Moreno, one of the most instinctive running backs in years. He offers a rare blend of vision, balance and quickness at the line and also does a nice job in the receiving game.
SI.com's Don Banks has the Eagles taking Moreno:
The Eagles have good options with their two first-rounders (21 and 28), but getting a running back to help lighten Brian Westbrook's load looks like the need to take care of first. Then Philly can use its second No. 1 to get one of best remaining offensive tackles.
Scott Wright of draftcountdown.com has the Eagles selecting Moreno:
There is a chance that Knowshon Moreno will be long gone by this point but running backs do tend to slide a bit and unless a team goes against the grain and takes one even though it’s not a glaring need, a la Pittsburgh with Rashard Mendenhall last year, he could still be available.
Chris Steuber of FoxSports.com has the Eagles picking Moreno:
With Brian Westbrook having injury problems and being 30, the Eagles have to think about a RB of the future. Moreno is the perfect successor.
Pat Kirwan of NFL.com has the Eagles going with Moreno:
The Eagles solved their tackle concerns with the trade for Jason Peters and the signing of Stacy Andrews. The Eagles can now take the eventual replacement for Brian Westbrook.
Charles Davis and Steve Wyche of NFL.com also have the Eagles taking Moreno. Jamie Dukes has them taking Oklahoma State tight end Brandon Pettigrew.
Evan Silva of NBCSports.com has the Eagles picking Ohio State running back Chris "Beanie" Wells:
Wells has been projected as high as No. 6 to Cincinnati, but two-down tailbacks don't frequently go in the top half of the draft. Beanie's impressive offseason could vault him somewhere in the top 20, but if not the Eagles can't possibly pass. Brian Westbrook would be better suited for a Marshall Faulk-like late-career role with Wells as Philly's lead back.
Profootballtalk.com has the Eagles selecting Ohio State running back Wells.
The Sporting News has the Eagles taking South Carolina tight end Jared Cook.
PLEASE TAKE KNOWSHON MORENO....WE DON'T NEED ANQUAN BOLDIN. WE NEED A RUNNING BACK TO REPLACE WESTBROOK SOON...AND THIS GUY IS A STUD. REMEMBER 1ST ROUNDERS DON'T NEED TO BE OK OR SO-SO..THEY NEED TO BE FUTURE NFL STARS IN THE MAKING. THIS GUY REMINDS ME OF LADANIAN TOMLINSON AND CAN CATCH OUT THE BACKFIELD. WESTBROOK AND MORENO WILL HAVE THAT 1-2 PUNCH FOR THE NEXT 3 4 5 YEARS!!! DRAFT KNOWSHON AND GET A TIGHT END IN THE 2ND ROUND. rodney517
THERE ARE ALSO A SLEW OF GOOD RECEIVERS OUT THERE TO BE HAD IN THE LATER ROUNDS..2ND AND 3RD ROUNDS...KNOWSHON 1ST..WHATEVER 2ND. ANDY DON'T MESS THIS UP...BUT YOU WILL PROBABLY DRAFT A DEFENSIVE END IN THE 1ST ROUND. rodney517- I agree rodney517 that the Eagles ought to take Moreno but a 1-2 punch for the next 3-5 years? NAH! Westbrook has another 1 maybe 2 years left in his tank them (per the Eagles usual MO) send him on his way. By then we may have developed another runner or maybe draft for another one to take Westbrook's place altogether. We shall see how it goes.
Reid is going to take Alex Mack, Center from Cal. Mark my words...He can then grab a RB and TE in the 2nd and 3rd. jeffmd55- With the 21st pick in the first round, the Philadelphia Eagles select, Knowshon Moreno, running back, University of Georgia. At least they should, in my opinion. And it looks like they will. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/159774-eagles-looking-hard-at-knowshon-moreno
Mark my words...He's going to take Alex Mack with the 21st pick.... jeffmd55- no way jeff.....alex mack is a good center but hes not worthy of being picked at 21
moreno would be a great pick but he may not be available, if he's not then uconn's brown would also be a nice fit for the birds, both guys are good receivers and both can block. any "expert" that has the eagles picking wells obviously doesn't now much about the bird's offense. wells is a great downhill runner but has only caught 16 passes in his 3 year college career, he also hasn't been asked to block very often. ohio state only attempted 165 passes last year, the eagles throw the ball a lot so they need a back who has shown both receiving and blocking skills jbuck1979
Reid isn't going to spend a 1st round pick on a C or TE...ever. Those aren't premium positions, that's not how he drafts. Wells is not going to be the pick either because he can't catch. JimG
I don't think Andy will take Moreno even if he falls to 21. I'll do cartwheels if he does, but I can completely see him taking a center as Jeffmd55 has suggested. That's Big Red. rwright611- When was the last time a center was taken in the first round? Pretty rare I would say. Bob1

At 21 AR will have his choice of Moreno, Pettigrew, and a good CB will be there (I can't recall his name but a bunch of mocks had him in the 20s). Is there a decent DE he could go after? 'Cause he might do that. A center? at 21? Nahh.... If Reid wants him he'll target him in the second round. He won't take a TE that high. I think that he'll take Moreno at 21 and look for a power back later in the draft. Warhound
Comment removed.- "Today"? I lost a lot of respect for him a while ago! He always makes snide comments outside of the locker room. HE was probably the "bad element" in the locker room when they made a mistake and said that G-Lew was.
