McNabb responds to DeSean's comments

"It's so wild when people get to talking when you're not there, but when you're there everybody loves you," said Donovan McNabb, in response to recent comments by WR DeSean Jackson.

DeSean Jackson has been pretty consistent with his comments this offseason when asked about Donovan McNabb.

He is excited about the Eagles' young nucleus on offense, believes the team will have success with Kevin Kolb and predicts that the Birds will surprise some people who are expecting a drop-off.

Now, depending on how you look at his comments, either he's strongly backing Kolb and management, or he's slighting McNabb.

Jackson's most recent comments came in The Sporting News. He told the magazine he was "very happy with the decision" to trade McNabb.

"I don't think we lost anything, even with McNabb being gone," Jackson said.

Yesterday, at Redskins minicamp, McNabb was asked to respond.

"It's so wild when people get to talking when you're not there, but when you're there everybody loves you," McNabb said, according to the Associated Press. "So I guess people will go deeper into it than I will. I'm a Redskin, no longer an Eagle. I had 11 great years and I'm moving on with my life, so whoever may say things when I'm gone, more power to them, but it's not making you look like a bigger man."

McNabb's right that everyone should move on. Will the debate ever end? Of course not. But at this point, we've heard from everyone on the Eagles' roster and front office. I wonder how many times Jackson has been asked about the McNabb trade this offseason. What else can he say at this point?

The truth is McNabb and Jackson were a great fit for two seasons. McNabb had the arm and know-how to get the ball downfield, as the Eagles evolved into a big-play offense.

And Jackson had the speed and ability to get open downfield that the Eagles lacked for most of McNabb's tenure here.

My guess is Jackson liked McNabb just fine. But every receiver wants a Drew Brees or Peyton Manning, who can put the ball right where they want it. Kolb probably does a better job of that in practice than McNabb, and the receivers hope it will carry into the games. You can't answer a question like DeSean was asked and not sound like you slighted one QB or the other.

This is a total non story. Jackson's comments were made in the context of moving on with a new quarterback and being positive concerning the change. He was not criticizing McNabb in any way and his comments were taken somewhat out of context by the media. As for McNabb, he continues to have the emotions of a sensitive little baby which is why he never bonded with the Philly fans and never really belonged!! Good riddance, good luck, thanks for the memories, don't go away mad just go away !!!!

The moral of the story? Perhaps the press should stop asking the same dumb question, over and over and over again. Let's move on...

Basically, Jackson just said that Kolb will perform as well as McNabb. Would it have been wise for Jackson to say "we won't be as good"? McNabb should know how these questions go.

I'm so happy to be rid of this guy and his "communication skillz." What a clown. He couldn't help getting that little jab in there, all the while pretending like it doesn't rile his insecure little man personality. We all know better, Don.

McNabb's "bigger man" quote shows he lacks the level of class many have said he has. McNabb threw his young receivers under the bus last year, saying they weren't running good routes and they were dropping passes. I guess he still hasn't figured out that it takes two to complete a pass. If I was one of those receivers, getting dissed by my QB - who is notorious for his lack of accuracy - I might not be all that upset that he's gone. McNabb was rarely "the bigger man" when he was with the Eagles when he opened his mouth, but he always tried to portray himself as such. If he had really "moved on" as he said he has, then he wouldn't need to make the "bigger man" comment. It's just Donovan playing the victim yet again - I'm glad that show has left Philadelphia. Now the Washington fans can endure it for a couple of seasons, if McNabb lasts that long.

Where is doodooidiot and lonelywolfie to bash McNabb for throwing Desean under the bus? Oh wait, he was just as professional as he's always been, complimenting the organization and moving on like a pro does. And sillibilli...how would Desean know who is better for the team? Has he played in the league long enough to know what works and what doesn't? Has he been a part of a championship team? Has he bothered to show up in the post-season? No...on all counts...

I agree with the comments so far. McNabb is pitiful. He interpreted DeSean's comments as a slight rather than as a vote of confidence in his new QB. McNabb knows nothing about being a man, so it is logical in his mind that he is a "bigger" one. Sheesh!

Seriously, what is the deal with all of these questions for Jackson? Why has this man been asked 50 different times what he thinks about McNabb being traded? Could it be because Jackson is prone to say a lot of things without thinking and the media leeches are desperate to bait him into saying something "controversial"? Geez, move on already.

(insert unnecessary air guitar comment here) Wokka wokka wokka. Donovan - you're old enough to know that when the reporters put microphones in front of you, they're going to goad you into saying something. What will make you a bigger man is shutting your mouth instead of pouting like a little kid. DJax is showing support for the guy who has to throw him the ball this season. Truly, it isn't all about you this time. Take your advice, move on, and let it go. Most of us already have.
