Kolb not bothered by QB shuffle with Vick

Will inserting Michael Vick into games with the first-team offense affect Kevin Kolb's rhythm? Kolb says it's not an issue, and the Eagles need to get Vick on the field.

Kolb not bothered by QB shuffle with Vick

Predicting how Michael Vick will be used in the regular season is a big of a guessing game at this point.

Based on what we saw last year, what we've seen in the preseason and what Marty Mornhinweg has told us, Vick is going to get on the field. But when he is going to get on the field is the tricky part.

And that goes hand in hand with determining how inserting Vick into games will affect Kevin Kolb and his rhythm.

Against the Chiefs, Vick got on the field for five of 52 plays with the first-team offense.

"No. It doesn't bother me at all," Kolb said when I asked if the shuffling in and out will take some getting used to. "My rhythm stays the same. I look forward to Mike being out there. He's a great player. He's an asset to our team so we need him out there when they see fit. And it doesn't bother me at all."

Mornhinweg was also asked this week about how inserting Vick into games will affect Kolb, and he stayed consistent with remarks he made during training camp at Lehigh.

"You certainly think about it because I do believe in it," he said. "However, it’s all the mentality, really. If you have the mentality - and our offense has it, all of our players have it - where we don’t care how we win the next game. We’ll do whatever it takes to win the next game. We don’t care how we win the game - run, pass. We don’t care who gets the credit. We don’t care who scores. With that attitude, then you’re in pretty good shape."

Vick had success when he was in the game against Kansas City. He picked up a couple of 3rd-and-short plays with his legs and also found Jason Avant for an 8-yard gain through the air.

Of course, we won't know exactly how this thing is going to work until the regular season.

MONITORING THE SCOTT TRADE

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the NFLPA is monitoring two trades, including the Eagles' deal with the Cardinals that sent rookie fullback Charles Scott to Arizona for cornerback Jorrick Colvin.

You should check out the link, but it has to do with an 85 percent rule in an uncapped year. Per the rule, any drafted rookie that is cut by his team is guaranteed 85 percent of his first-year minimum-wage $310,000 salary.

But if the rookie is traded and then cut, apparently the rule does not apply.

The Redskins and Rams are the other teams being monitored, per the report.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...

Ron Jaworski and Jon Gruden made their NFC East predictions during Sportscenter Tuesday. I blogged about it last night.

Keep playing like you have been and Vick will start by week 4. If Reid can bench #5, he sure as hell can bench you! Time to produce, Kolb.

As with everything related to Kolb, TALK IS CHEAP! The issue is this: Let's see how he PERFORMS in the so-called QB shuffle, behind that O-Line, in a one-dimensional offense, etc. And when measuring his performance please do not use a double standard. Keep it real...

kolb will be fine in the regular season, but vick will be used alot more than last year since mcnabb isnt here to complain about it "ruining" his rythym

What do you expect Kolb to say? Lurie and Reid has orchestrated this whole Vick mess, if Vick fails then Lurie and Reid will be proven dopes....So if Kolb says anything negative about Vick and this stupid "two headed quarterback" substition disaster.. Lurie and Reid would run Kolb out of town.

HAHAHA WHY IN GOD'S NAME WOULD IT BOTHER HIM THE ONLY TIME THEY EVER GET ANY KIND OF YARDS OR 1ST DOWNS IS WHEN VICK COMES IN, KOLB IS A HIGH SCHOOL QUARTERBACK WHO HAS ALREADY BEEN EXPOSED.

@Sono - again your post does nothing for the conversation on hand - and by the way pick a record and stick with it loser - weeks back you said 4-12 now its 2-14 - wow Eagles fans a Deadskins fan thinks we are going to be worse than them last year! - is it possible? Also - please revisit this site after week 6 and come talking smack - it should be interesting how bad your club is vs. ours. Your Mom is calling you for lunch - schools about to start next week so go get your Daniel Snyder/Vinny Cerreto lunch box and scat...

If the O-line continues to break down it will mean more playing time for Vick. The only way you can protect Kolb is by keeping him on the bench. Vick won't be here next year; Kolb will. By next year you'll see a better line. That is assuming good off season decisions of course.

This seems like the groundwork for the Kolbpologists to use as an excuse if Kolb plays poorly. "Well, Kolb would have done better if they didn't put Vick in for those three plays"

These interviews are a waste of time. All you get is the party line. McNabb didn't say what was on his mind about the Eagles until he was a Redskin.

Kevin Kolb will be a bust. I see him as a journeyman backup in the NFL. The Team will need Vick this season. I see the team finishing with a 3-13 season. We don't have McNabb to scapegoat anymore.

Kolb said exactly what a good teammate should say -- does anyone here think that Donovan would have said this ?? Kolb will have a tough year, no doubt, but it is a refreshing change

Kolb will be fine. He has all the right ingredients to be a very good NFL quarterback. Will he win a SB this year? There are a lot of variables that go into such a thought. I will say it's not an impossible task. He has sufficient arm strength, has pretty good pocket presence, sees the field fairly well, and needs some experience. A couple of weeks into the season, he may just show us all up. I like his work ethic way better than Dmac. I think he will do the film work that is needed to succeed in the NFL. Give the guy some time. I just have a real good feeling about this young QB. I would not be suprised in the least if he grows into an elite NFL QB. That being said, he will need help. His recievers have to be aggressive in plucking the ball. The line needs to jell quickly and show some decent running ability, as a team. I do believe we will have a top ten defense, along with top five special teams play. Let's all watch and understand that injuries to other teams, as well as our own, make all the difference in the NFL season. I am a true Eagles fan. I have witnessed some real improvement out of our young players. A couple of bounces, a great throw, a great return or defensive game could set the tone in the first quarter of the season, to witness something really great. This is what we should be hoping for. Stay positive, understand the game and hope for some positive momentum, as that is what it's going to take for OUR team to succeed. FLY EAGLES FLY!

jakejake, I completely agree. McNabb would have given some kind of goofy, qualified response with that phony smile. I can hear him now, "It is what it is. If the team wants to do that than that's what we'll do." Great to hear the right words coming from your QB.

@phatwiz - hmmmm...off the top of my head I can think of one...ever hear of a guy named Favre from Southern Miss? I think he has had a pretty good career...you don't have to be from a big conference school to have a great career loser...

The whole halfway house experiment is Andy getting too cute thinking that the opposition will have to waste time worrying or scheming for the turnover machine. So, everybody has to read their lines, Kolb: it doesn't bother me etc. etc. and Vick might get his 3 snaps a game while the fans cross their fingers. As for what would Donovan do? We know, we saw the cut it off signal last year to the people who didn't support him but dutifully backed up whatever #5 wanted to do (get TO, get rid of TO blah, blah, blah).

umm jakejake..he did say the say thing. In fact, I believe, it was McNabb's idea to bring him in. You think Kolb would risk bringing in someone like Vick who wants to start?! Ha! Dude will be lucky to keep his job the whole season..

How can it ruin your rhythm when you don't have any to start with? It's just a matter of time before we see more Vick and Kafka

Vick should play with the 1's for the entire first half....then we may see what he's got. So far, he's in with the 2's....I want him to get playing time with starters!!
