Kolb says he called out Eagles plays

Kevin Kolb was on the sidelines during his return to the Linc on Sunday afternoon, recovering from turf toe and other injuries to his right foot.

But the former Eagles quarterback may have still played a minor role in the Cardinals' victory.

Speaking with Anthony Gargano and Glen Macnow on 94 WIP Tuesday afternoon, Kolb said he was able to identify some of the Eagles' plays and was shouting out instructions to the Cardinals defensive backs.

"It was funny, as they were lining up for the plays, I'd go 'Hold on, they're gonna do this.' And you don't know if they changed things up or what... but the ones that I was for sure on, I was letting it ring, and I think I helped us out maybe just a little bit here and there," he said.

Kolb explained that he worked with the defensive coaching staff during the week to help Arizona prepare for Michael Vick and the Eagles' offense.

"During the two-minute drill, you almost feel guilty," Kolb said with a laugh. "Mike's sitting there giving the signals, and I'm standing there on our sidelines, screaming at our corners, 'Hey it's a go ball, hey he's running a screen, hey he's running a slant.'"

Asked why the Eagles wouldn't change things up, knowing about Kolb's familiarity with their offense, he explained that this kind of thing happens on a weekly basis, using the example of the Cardinals facing Anquan Boldin and the Ravens. Kolb downplayed his effect on the game, saying he probably only helped on a handful of plays.

"How much of an effect do I really have?" he said. "I'm screaming to one guy. He may hear me, he may not. Luckily for us at that point [presumably the 2-minute drill at the end], the crowd was pretty dead and some of our guys could maybe hear it."

Vick, of course, played his worst game as an Eagle, completing just 16 of 34 passes for 128 yards and two interceptions. He averaged just 3.8 yards per attempt.

While the Cardinals' defense deserves credit, Vick misfired on throws to several open receivers, and the Eagles had five drops. It also didn't help that they were without DeSean Jackson and had a banged-up Jeremy Maclin for much of the game.

But Kolb's instruction certainly didn't seem to hurt, as Eagles wide receivers totaled just eight catches for 55 yards on 18 targets, and Vick either took off to run or was sacked on nine of 43 dropbacks.
