Report: Kolb's worked out with Fitzgerald

For years here, Kevin Kolb couldn't wait to take over as the starting quarterback of the Eagles.

Now, signs suggest he can't wait to get a head start with his new team.

Kolb and Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald organized a workout at Arizona State earlier this month, a source tells Craig Morgan of FoxSportsArizona.com.

Players from different teams have worked out together regularly this offseason, but this match would appear to be a little more than a coincidence.

Remember, a report surfaced way back in February, saying Fitzgerald, who is in the final year of his contract, had urged Cardinals management to take a run at Kolb.

Earlier this week, Kolb talked about people connecting the dots on his future, and ESPN's Sal Paolantonio said on the radio today that Kolb is already looking for a place to live in Arizona.

Ideally, the Eagles would take their time, gauge offers and get the most they can for Kolb by pitting teams against one another and creating a favorable marketplace.

But as we know by now, this is a less than ideal situation. Many teams have already filled their QB needs, and the Eagles likely know exactly who the interested parties are. This week's news indicates that they very well could even have the framework for a deal in place.

It will be in the Eagles' best interest to deal Kolb quickly because compensation for the quarterback could determine who they target in free agency.

For example, if cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is part of the deal, the Eagles don't have to worry about looking into Nnamdi Asomugha, Johnathan Joseph, Ike Taylor, etc. But if the Eagles take their time dealing Kolb, and a trade falls through, those other options could sign with other teams.

As for the lockout, we continue to be in wait-and-see mode. Earlier today, I posted the weekly What they're saying about the Eagles piece.
