Kinsler takes jab at DeSean, Vick
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
For the second week in a row, I'm writing about a baseball player taking a shot at Michael Vick.
Last week, it was White Sox starter and dog lover Mark Buehrle admitting that he sometimes would root for Vick to get injured last season.
This time, it was Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler, who also included DeSean Jackson in his jab.
Rangers infielder Michael Young requested a trade weeks ago, but Kinsler said he expects his teammate to report to full-squad workouts on Sunday.
"This isn't DeSean Jackson or Michael Vick or Manny Ramirez," Kinsler said, according to Richard Durrett of ESPNDallas.com. "Michael Young is a professional. It would be completely out of his personality not to be here."
Jackson has made it clear that he wants a new deal (his current one runs out after 2011). But he reported to Lehigh on time last summer. And while his catches and receiving yards were down slightly, Jackson led the NFL in yards per catch (22.5) and yards after the catch (7.5).
As for Vick, we can only assume Kinsler meant he is unprofessional in general since he hasn't really been involved in a contract dispute. Vick was hit with the franchise tag earlier this week.
If you think Kinsler was out of line with his little jab, you'll have your chance to let him know this season. The Rangers visit Citizens Bank Park for a three-game series May 20-22.
Hat tip to the Inquirer's Ashley Fox for Tweeting out the link.
And if you missed it earlier, I posted on the Eagles' window, Andy Reid's job security and Kevin Kolb's future.

Don't understand the logic behind the comment by Kinsler. I guess he just wanted more publicity but mentioning Vick & DJax while implying they wouldn't show for team workouts due to a contract dispute has nothing to do with reality. Mabus
Who is Kinsler????? jdld610
DeSean Jackson is still living in Divaville some weeks, but he's a hard worker who shows up every day. Mike Vick is at least striving to become a great person off the field, and is already there in some ways. These comments by the baseball players say a lot about them and nothing about Vick and Jackson. I'm guessing Kinsler did not take a few hours out of his day recently to appear on TV with a teen who talked about bullying. If he thinks Phillies fans won't remember him on May 20, guess again. Unlike Buerhle, I wish injuries for no one, but here's to his ERA going above 10.00 this summer. armchairGM- Well said chair. Kinsler comments sound awfully racist. To include DJax or Vick, since he's been here, with Manny is ridiculous. The only connection is his view on Athlete's of a different race and what he perceives as their gangster lifestyle. Djax weighs a buck 80, and has remained healthier and missed far less time than Manny due to injury, knock on wood, in a much more violent game. The shot he took last year, to come back so quickly for a guy his size, says alot about his heart. Vick is one of the toughest athletes alive, most if not all other QB's would have missed games, seasons or had their careers ended from the shots he has taken. Yet they are back ASAP. Manny has a strain and he misses 50 games.
Comment removed.- I'm not sure how your little outburst disproves TruValues read of that strange lumping of players. Just because you want people to stop being racist doesn't mean it went away. Racism is often time coded and subtle, does that mean that was Kinsler's intent, no. It could have been nothing at all, but don't dismiss someone because they read it differently than you. Only Kinsler knows the answer.
- lol this makes no sense. i think hes mad about cliff lee coming to philly too so he had to jab at the city somehow? MPatt24
why is this a big deal? the guy plays for Texas and was talking to a Dallas station, obviously he was playing into it for the fans mostly because of the Eagles/Cowboys rivalry and def probably bitter of Cliff Lee choosing Philly over Texas.. he had his two seconds of fame and i guarantee you the Eagles have a better shot at getting to a championship than the Texas Rangers ever will again Because Im Right- Whoever this dud is, who cares about what he says or thinks? I never even heard of him. Sounds like Joe Nobody's distant cousin
love these media generated conversations...bore jocks, talking to bored journalists, disseminated by other bored journalists and wham a story is before us. retzlaff
Kinsler is an idiot. I can understand taking a jab at vick, I mean Vick was voted most despised athlete in America but Jackson?? DeSean hasn't done anything but play his tail off and be underpaid! He doesn't deserve to be mentioned with the likes of vick. bill19666
Mark Beuhrle's mouth is almost as ugly as his face. escapedcamden4monterey
Beuhrle is a class A hypocrit, stating that it's okay for him to hunt because "it's legal", and Kinsler is a nobody. Why does does these mindless, idiotic comments make the news? It seems like people like to mention Mike Vick's name in order to insure they make the newspaper, and the reporters fall for it. sherberg
So, why does Michael Vick have a key to the city of Dallas, and Ian Kinsler doesn't? RockStar
