Jerry Jones thought Cowboys had Asomugha

The way Jerry Jones sees it, the Cowboys wanted Nnamdi Asomugha, and Asomugha wanted the Cowboys.

But it just didn't work out.

"We had known that he really wanted to be a Dallas Cowboy," Jones said Thursday on a pre-game show, according to The Dallas Morning-News. "And that’s a fact. There, for about an hour, I thought he was going to be a Dallas Cowboy. You do that because you can do it and should do it, and take advantage of the opportunity."

He added that the Cowboys were "in the $10 million and up range" for Asomugha. The Eagles ended up getting him with a reported five-year, $60M deal.

The Cowboys were one of only two teams (the other being the Texans) that gave up more touchdown passes (33) than the Eagles (31) in 2010. Dallas also allowed a 92.8 opponent quarterback rating, fourth-worst in the NFL.

GIANTS FIRE BACK

Meanwhile, Giants vice president of communications, Pat Hanlon, has heard enough hype about the Eagles this preseason.

Hanlon, who has an active Twitter account, fired back at followers, who criticized the Giants' lack of activity this offseason.

Here are a couple of his comments, per the New York Daily News:

The last proclamation out of Philly that meant anything was a Declaration in 1776.

I'm angry about a lot of things, but I could give a s*** about the proclamations at end of the Turnpike.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...

I posted my practice observations, which focused on the return of DeSean Jackson, and Man Up on the Eagles' offense earlier Saturday.

Ha. Geography problems, too. We all know the end of the turnpike isn't in Philly. :-) I hear a lot of NY radio where I work. This is festering up there unbelievably. Life is beautiful, well, for a while.

So Hanlon has a problem with Eagles fan, seems like he would want to get his house in order, losing players left and right no one is happy there. May want to clean your own house Hanlon!

Yes, Jerrah. He definitely wanted to be a Cowboy. That's why he told his agent not to agree to a thing with any team until they gave the Eagles the last shot.

Nnamdi is was to intelligent of a human being to want to be a part of that circus in dallas. they are a joke. he is also polite and figured he'd at least listen to dallas' offer.

Jerry Jones needs to man up and pay those people the money he owes for those condemned sheets he sold at the SB, slum landlord, you can't buy everything. Looks like Lttle d is in trouble, they had to cut salaries of Romo, Ware just to keep Doug Free, stop fronting Jerry.

Funny how after he signed with the Eagles Bob Ryan said Nnamdi wasn't that good anyway. I heard the same thing from the local Yankee fans after Lee signed in Philly. They are great players and their team HAS to have them till the players sign somewhere else and then the denial starts. Good time to be Philly fans and watch the others squirm.

Excellent article in the New York Times today about how Eagles had been planning the 2011 buying spree for three years. Anyone who thinks our front office doesn't know what it's doing (though there are presumably fewer haters lately) should take a look.

Unbelievable...as a fan, I am used to hearing young guys, not all of whom are yet mature, mad stupid comments on twitter...but when an executive talks trash...just a lowering stndard of professionalism...As far as Jones, his ego can have him come to grips that the Cowboys brand is not all he thinks it is cracked up to be..Oh, the Cowboys are all that in North Texas, but they're far from America's team in 2011.

The only hype I hear is coming outside of Philadelphia. Jones and Hanlon can't stand that they got snookered.

This guy is the VP of Communications? You are one pathetic loser, with massive insecurities about your teams chances, and maybe your little Peter Johnson, or Richard Little.

Both the Giants and Cowboys are obviously jealous that the Eagles were prepared and ready for free agency and they weren't. Tell me Jerry if Nnamdi wanted to be a Cowboy, why didnt he sign with you guys? The answer is obvious; he wanted to be in Philly all along and its clear you cannot accept that.

Jerry Jones missed out on Nnandi but he can still get big prize, Jamarcus Russell is way better than Romo. A little tough coaching and Jamarcus is like superstar Mike Vick. Eagles smart if they cut Kafka and sign Jamarcus on.

The offensive thing about JJ's comment is that, in essence, he is calling Asomugha and the Eagles front office liars.
