Jaws, Gruden on Eagles win total

POSTED: Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 7:47 PM

The preseason predictions continue to trickle in from the national media.

Yesterday, I posted an item in which CBS' Phil Simms projected the Cowboys and Giants to make the postseason and the Eagles to miss out.

Today, two analysts with Philadelphia ties predicted that the Birds would not be over .500 in 2010.

During a Sportscenter segment on ESPN, Jon Gruden and Ron Jaworski were presented with 9 as the over/under for Eagles wins this season. And both analysts took the under.

"I'm not gonna make any friends in Philadelphia," Jaws said. "Less than 9 wins for the Eagles this year. A young team in transition, building for the future."

Does he expect Kevin Kolb to struggle?

"No, I don't," Jaws said. "I think he'll play solid. It's gonna be the defense."

Gruden agreed on the under.

"They've got a new quarterback, a lot of young players, tough division," he said.

Jaws predicted that the Cowboys would win the division, saying they'd win over 10 games. He has the other three teams in the division all finishing 8-8.

Gruden liked Dallas to win more than 10 games also, but he disagreed on the Giants, predicting that they'd win at least 11 games and take the division.

For the first time in a decade, it looks like it's going to be tough to find a member of the national media picking the Eagles to win the division.

RANKING KOLB 24TH

In case you missed it, ESPN.com's John Clayton released his list of quarterback rankings, and Kevin Kolb came in at No. 24:

Kolb is the perfect quarterback for Andy Reid's West Coast offense, which is why the Eagles traded Donovan McNabb to the Redskins. Kolb is a rhythm passer out of three- and five-step drops, and he should have a big statistical year.

Earlier I posted on the different things concerning the Eagles right now.

The goal for the Eagles is to win the Super Bowl. Last year, according to them, they had the best team in the league. They've improved as evidence of new players starting and contributing. Last year, with McNabb, they said they were legit Super Bowl contenders and many agreed. Now we're talking about missing the playoffs and a tough schedule. If you think you're a Super Bowl contender, you should be able to beat any team on your schedule. Now we're worried about teams like San Fran, Houston, and the Packers???

The O-line is a mess ! Peters is not a Pro bowler! The Rb`s cant pick up a block!! Recievers dropping balls !!!! But some fans wanna blame Kolb ! Well McNabb had a O-line that gave him 4 1/2 seconds to throw the ball!!! And 3 running backs !!! Remember the 3 headed monster and that vicious D!!! And McNabb never beat any of the elite teams !!! This team is young maybe to young!! 6-10 ! And the schedule is a killer!!! Kolb will be fine and he`s going to make mistakes!! But this O-line stinks!!!

What a quandary. Wolf said last year that "KK would win the SB within two years, or sooner." So he has the Birds winning the SB this year. But Jaworski and Gruden have the Birds winning fewer than 9 games. Who should I believe? Who should I believe?

1-14-1, first draft choice, which they will trade for three 3's and a 4.

6-10, but they will be competitive in all but a couple losses. It's the kind of year that's hard to figure out because the talent is there, but, especially on D, I see a leadership void. Hey, Allen and Graham are bringing it, and Bradley looks astonishingly sharp considering his injuries, but this group will face adversity, possibly on day one. And I just don't think they'll quite have the resilience that they've had in the past. Young players, young coordinator. I almost don't care, because it's going to be fun to watch no matter what.

PJSROOMS: STFU... where did McNabb have 4 secs to throw. He usually made those 4 secs with his feet.

McNabb is a better quarterback NOW. Kolb's value lies in his possible future. I think he'll throw a lot of picks this year.

Everybody knows what I think. Maybe 9-7 if they stay healthy and Andy keeps JJ from coming back to C too soon. The "D" might actually win a game or two....depends on how Sean game plans his troops, and if the secondary improves a little. And here's hoping Bobby April can find some decent coverage players for the kicks and punts....'cuz there's gonna be a LOT of punts.

HELLLOO! PLZ GIVE AS MUCH CREDIT TO WESTBROOKS AS U WOULD MCNABB FOR HOLDING THE TEAM UP IN OTHER SEASONS. BUT THEY ALWAYS HAD OTHER IMPACT PLAYERS AT VARIOUS POSITIONS. NOT THEY HAVE POTENTIAL ??IMPACT PLAYERS AT VARIOUS POSITIONS...TEAM IS NOT REALLY USED TO LOSING 8-8

Earth to Chuckie: If the NFC East has three teams finish 8-8, how does that comprise a "tough division"? The Giants are the most over-rated team in the NFL. Talk about O-line issues. And they keep copying the Eagles in the draft, only to take the lesser talent. Examples: Eagles draft Maclin, they draft Nix. We draft Graham, they draft a waste of a DE known as Pierre-Paul. And the Redskins? Please - they are one of the worst teams in the NFL. Talk about growing pains. They literally have ZERO players in their prime - over the hill or young. At least he Eagles have a core of players who, despite some youth, have numerous years' experience as starters - Trent Cole, both DTs, Herremans, DeSean, Celek, Mikell, Weaver. That's a solid nucleus.
