Jacobs: Giants will win 13 games
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
There is a legitimate buzz in this city building for the 2009 football season.
I'm going to expand more on that thought next week, but a key factor is the Eagles-Giants rivalry.
Both teams are considered among a handful of favorites in the NFC. Both made some big moves in the offseason. And both picked up offensive playmakers for their quarterbacks in the draft.
Even though it's only mid-May, the first prediction has now been made.
It comes courtesy of Giants running back Brandon Jacobs, who predicts that New York will win at least 13 games in 2009.
“We are going to have a new identity, a new scheme,” Jacobs said on his ESPN 1050 radio show, per Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. “Hopefully a piece of that puzzle doesn’t come missing in the middle of the season and we’ve got to make another adjustment. It’s just a fresh year. And I think that we’re going to have a great season and going on to win at least 13 games.
“I’m putting us in that big dance early and whoever’s listening to it, I really don’t care if they don’t like it or not.”
Jacobs didn't stop there.
The Giants have been rumored on and off all offseason to be interested in acquiring wide receiver Braylon Edwards from the Browns. Jacobs said he doesn't think Edwards will be coming on board and added that he feels that's a good thing.
“I don’t want him,” Jacobs said. “There’s great players in the league that I don’t want. I don’t know, I just think the chemistry between the teammates that I have now is great. We don’t need to add a new veteran to the whole group. I’m good with where we are. I’m glad that we didn’t go forward and get him or (Anquan) Boldin. And those guys are great guys (but) I’m not interested in that idea.”
So what do you think MTC readers? Are the Giants the favorites in the division? Is it the Eagles? Will either team win 13 games?
my prediction, this year Jacobs blows out a knee and will fade off fast. maximus
I can't disagree with Jacobs. There's no way the Giants don't win 13 games. It might take them three seasons to do it, but 13 wins over three years isn't difficult. dragoon6
Jacobs must have been grazed in the head by one of Plaxico's bullets. Eagles will win the division and move onto the Super Bowl this year over the Pats. The Marco Islander
PhillyHockeyBuff, how many of those rings did YOU contribute to? I love it when these geniuses say how "we" have rings, all you are is a dopey fan...what a moron. igglegreen
wolf, it's the other way around. Eli was lucky he had Jacobs, Bradshaw , Ward, Burress, Toomer, and Shockey to depend and and without Tyree he has no ring. That pass was too high for Wilt to catch. All you need to see is what Eli did last year after he lost his security blankets. He became average at best. tpizza
13 wins by anybody in the NFC east is going to be really tough. All four teams are good so that means six REALLY difficult games for each team. Unfortunitly it will come down to injuries. Eagles and Giants are the favorites with Dallas and Washington in the mix. Chances are everyone will win one and loose one they shouldn't. It's going to be fun. craig123- I don't think anyone in the division will win 13 games. Much too well balanced this year. djlen

Lonewolf, that's flat out ridiculous. So if Eli Manning and McNabb were in the same draft, you'd take Manning? Take away Burress, and Eli Manning is mediocre. Last year was proof. Hit the weights Eli. Mark Rypien has a SB ring....hahahahaha p-diddy
Lonewolf, you have a selective memory. The Eagles beat the Giants in their house last year in a first round playoff game. Eli got completely stuffed in that head to head game. Everybody outside NY thinks their SB was a fluke! p-diddy
