Haynesworth's future; love for McNabb

The discussion of where Albert Haynesworth will end up next year continues, and the latest piece I've come across is from Mike Jones of The Washington Post. According to the article, Mike Shanahan wanted a second-round pick in exchange for Haynesworth last offseason, but no team was willing to meet that price:

The Redskins had a chance to part ways with Haynesworth for a late-round round pick last offseason, but Shanahan insisted on nothing less than a second-rounder. Washington's leverage hasn't improved any a year later, but Shanahan's stance, according to people with knowledge of the situation, hasn't changed.

If the Redskins are to part ways with Haynesworth, Shanahan remains committed to doing so via trade. The coach, according to people familiar with this thinking, has long maintained that cutting Haynesworth and allowing him to sign a contract with a new team is giving the player his way. Shanahan is determined to do it his way.

My take on Haynesworth has remained the same for months now. I can't see the Eagles, or any team for that matter, giving up a second-round pick for him. The risk is just too high. The only way to reduce that risk is by signing Haynesworth after the Redskins cut him. Then the reward is high, and if he steps out of line, you can just get rid of him.

Jones reports that the Eagles and Titans wanted Haynesworth last offseason, but were not willing to match the Redskins' asking price. When the Birds sent Donovan McNabb to Washington, reports surfaced that the Redskins wanted to include Haynesworth as part of the deal, but the Eagles turned them down. So it's tough to determine whether the discussions last year were more about the Redskins wanting to unload Haynesworth or the Eagles actually wanting to acquire him.

Sticking with the Redskins, Mike Shanahan was recently asked about McNabb, and his response was pretty hilarious.

"I love Donovan McNabb. … He's one of the best guys you'll ever be around," Shanahan said during a youth football camp, per Jennifer X. Williams of CSNWashington.com. "You cannot find a better person in the world. The thing that you do when you put a football team together is you sit down and make some tough decisions, and I will sit down with him once we are able to talk."

Right. He loves McNabb the same way LeSean McCoy loves Osi Umenyiora.

Speaking of which, Keith Bulluck is the latest Giants player to respond to McCoy. Eagletarian has the details. I don't expect this to stop any time soon. Wait until training camp starts (yes, if that happens). My guess is every Giants player will be asked about McCoy. Like I've said before, I like the back-and-forth. It adds to the rivalry.

Yesterday, I wrote about DeSean Jackson's Twitter responses to the comments he was receiving after using a gay slur during a radio interview. Well, someone got to Jackson because he then issued an apology via Twitter. Jeff McLane of The Inquirer has the details. Jackson could have at least included a Sheesh! or a Jaccpot! to create the impression that it was him doing the apologizing.

1. I'm catching up on season 3 of Breaking Bad and loving every second of it. Question for those who watch: Has any show ever done the opening scene as well as Breaking Bad? I say no. By the time the intro music starts up, I feel like I've already watched a full episode.
