Dislike for Vick; protection for McNabb; love for Kolb

Eagles backup quarterback Michael Vick has been named the most disliked sports figure for the second year in a row. Meanwhile, the Redskins have taken another step to protect Donovan McNabb.

Dislike for Vick; protection for McNabb; love for Kolb

Michael Vick has been named the most disliked sports figure for the second year in a row. (Staff Photographer)

Who is your pick for the most disliked person in sports?
Michael Vick
Jerry Jones
Al Davis
Ben Roethlisberger
Tiger Woods
Terrell Owens
Alex Rodriguez
Allen Iverson
Gilbert Arenas
Mark McGwire

Forbes recently published the results of an E-Poll Market Research survey about the most disliked people in sports.

Who took the top spot?

Eagles backup quarterback Michael Vick.

According to the survey, Vick earned a 69 percent dislikability rating:

A year removed from his dog-fighting troubles, Vick's image rehab was probably slowed by his sparse playing time in Philadelphia. More time in the public eye could move things along.

Vick had to beat out Al Davis, Ben Roethlisberger, Tiger Woods and Jerry Jones for the top spot. They rounded out the top five.

A couple other sports figures with Philadelphia ties also made the list. Terrell Owens came in at No. 7. And somewhat surprisingly, Allen Iverson was ninth.

It was the second year in a row that Vick topped the list.

PROTECTION FOR MCNABB

The Redskins have acquired offensive tackle Jammal Brown from the Saints. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the compensation is related to the Eagles' trade with the 'Skins for Donovan McNabb.

As you might remember, the Eagles will receive an additional third- or fourth-round pick in 2011, based on several factors. If the Redskins win nine games OR go to the playoffs OR if McNabb makes the Pro Bowl, the Eagles get a third-round pick and the Saints get a fourth-round pick.

If none of those things happen, the Eagles get the fourth-round pick and the Saints get the third-round pick.

Brown is 29 and missed all of last season with injuries. He's a former first-round pick and a two-time Pro Bowler (2006 and 2008). The Redskins also used their first-round pick (No. 4 overall) on a tackle, selecting Trent Williams out of Oklahoma.

The goal is obvious: protect McNabb. Trent Cole and company will have some new guys to battle against this season.

Brown, like McNabb, is in the final year of his contract.

LOVE FOR KOLB FROM COWBOYS FANS?

It's tough to envision a scenario where Eagles fans would root for a Cowboys player.

But the reverse is playing out in Kevin Kolb's hometown of Stephenville, Texas. Kolb held a football camp there and is feeling the love from Cowboys fans even though he's a member of the Eagles.

"I can tell you I'm the biggest die-hard Cowboys fan there is," said Kreg Kimple, a Stephenville coach, per Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star Telegram. "But for what Kevin does for the community here, I'm pulling for the Eagles for 14 games a year, and I want him to do well in the two games against the Cowboys. I just hope the Cowboys win."

AND FINALLY...

Happy Father's Day to all the great dads out there. Following sports would not be the same without the bonds shared by dads and their kids.

Killing a dog is worse than raping a girl? It's amazing there are actually people out here who feel a dog's life is more valuable than a female's. Hey El, is that really how you feel about your mom? I mean really?? What the h@!! happened to you? Couldn't get a prom date?

BooDuhBud. Carlos is right. Is Vick really changing or is he saying and doing what he must to stay in the NFL and collect millions of dollars. Most people would put the act on for that much money especially when you are broke.

briandawkins20: Well, they have to actually play the games first. I am sorry to say but I don't think this is going to be a very fun Eagles year. We are 9th in strength of schedule, Kolb has 4 touchdowns and 7 interceptions IN HIS CAREER. The Falcons will come in here full of you know what and vinegar, #5 Redskins has circled 2 dates on his calendar. Vick is going to prove to all of us that it's all about Mike, there is no MIKE in TEAM. Mike Kafka is all of a sudden looking pretty good.

Carlos would U STFU. Mike Vick will be a HERO to those who start out life and are led down the wrong path, but then by intervention try to make themselves better. Its about choices. He can CHOOSE to not try to redeem himself. Instead He CHOOSES to BECOME A BETTER MAN. So Carlos please Sir, STFU and go away.

I like Kolb, but I think he is going to need to put up 35 points to win games with this defense. I just don't see our defense shutting the door like in years past. Too undersized. Stewart Bradley is a solid player, but he is not that great and we can't pin our hopes on him. This year will be great to see the young offense jell together, but we need a couple more years to build up the D to become a contender again.

Violence, guns, and irresponsible behavior was a large part of Michael Vick's life...his destructive value system permitted him to commit the crimes he was convicted of. He may have paid for his crimes via his prison time but there is a much larger issue here. He must be shunned and the message must be sent loud and strong that a huge price must be paid for living the destructive culture that exists in our urban areas. Young men and innocent woman and children die everyday on our streets due to this violent value system. Michael Vick is a symbol for violence and must not become a hero to young men in our urban areas.

I am as tired as I can be with everyone talking about how Vick killed dogs. Yes, we all know that was a terrible, terrible thing. I have a Pit Bull myself and I can not imagine that happening to my dog or any other animal. But, let that S**T go. The man has paid his debt. Get over it. I don't wish no ill-will to Kevin Kolb. But, God forbid if he goes down. All those that wish and hopes for a championship will have to ride on Vick's back to get what they want. As fas as a Ben vs. Vick issues, I think that a human life is more importatnt than a dogs. So, how do you all feel about all of these Pits killing people around town? You all think that its ok? What a messed up world we live in.

Mike Vick is an animal, he should be kept in a cage. He still refers to his dog killing days as a mistake and claims he didn't know any better. He is either the dumbest human in town, or a psycopath. Throw that trash away already.

Jeff Lurie has to be gob-smacked by that statistic. Eagles do-gooder, owner was only trying to help a fallen player through rehabilitation and back to a productive life. No good deed goes unpunished as the saying goes.

Why can't my man Ron Mexico get a break? Sure, he tortured some dogs to death, but they were underperformers. Ron's a winner who won't tolerate losers. And didn't you see the press conference? He found out that that was wrong and now he doesn't even do it anymore. He even said he was sorry.

Mike Vick went to jail for running an interstate gambling ring. He also personally killed and tortured dogs. Those stole the headlines from his other anti-social activities including knowingly spreading STDs and lifting someone's watch at airport security. So for those with their heads in the sand, Vick is like Roethlisberger AND he tortured dogs.

Vick's popularity in some meaningless poll is not important. The reality is that our vetern QB was traded to our NFC rival and Vick is the vetern backup for Kolb who is now our starting QB. He is our safety net if Kolb can't cut it. I think Kolb will do fine and even though Vick's crime was horrible, since last year he has shown some indications of a changed life. If he had strayed from his recovery plan, I believe Lurie would have fired him. Either you believe he is posturing to get ahead or he has had a change of heart. This is beyond the realm of sports expertise.

Dag, they got Iverson in there. Whatta polarizing athlete. He's got a huge amount of fans, (myself included), yet I guess some people really can't stand the guy. No denying the dumb things he did in the past, but in my opinion, he's seems to be a person capable of turning things around for himself. Guess time will tell.

alex rodriguez is my pick. the guy is a punk and coward. cheated the game of baseball, signed the most expensive contract in all of sports, like 220 million dollars, and then even lied about it. he is pathetic. roethlisburger had consensual sex with the first girl, not rape. the 2nd girl I think was after his money as she didnt scream or fight him at all , yet claims she was "raped", yea right. if you actually do not want to have sex with a famous athlete, you dont follow him to a secluded part of a club, let the guy have sex with you without physically attempting to fight him off at all, and then afterward claimed you were "raped". the guy puts himself in bad situations, but hes no rapist.

Woods, AI, TO, Arenas and Big Ben have personal issues that is for them them or their families. Big Mac and Pay-Rod basically got away with destroying the Ken Griffey baseball era (along with every other tainted Yankee). The Cowgirls will never win with an imbecile like Jones running them. I think Al Davis has been cryogenically frozen for about 10 years. That leaves only Vick. He paid his debt and should be given a 2nd chance. However, its really hard to forget the (psychotic?) evil he did. IOTW, I would have voted for Vick.

How can ANYBODY think of themselves as a mature, home-team supporting NFL fan....and get upset by some inane drivel written just to get a rise out of certain people. Vick served his time. I challenge ANYBODY to point me towards PROOF that any other person charged with the gross mistreatment, and/or murdering of dogs did any jail time whatsoever for it EVEN IF FOUND GUILTY! Vick (I don't like him as a person OR a QB by the way)is just trying to put his life back in order, and I will not hurl any more stones at him for his dog killing.....

SHEESH! All I know is that the Eagles will be ok, if not this year then surely next. The Deadskins are living on borrowed time since they've BORROWED a lot of other teams grief. I challenge certain responders to list the "11 or 12 games" that the Birds will win; your nasal passages ARE still filled with the man-aroma of a former QB that played here. And you're right about one thing, KK will never get benched but only because Fat Andy will show the same allegiance to his current QB as he did to his last one. And finally, the dog-killer is merely an accessory, a gimmic to use as (again) an ineffective Wildcat tool in another lame attempt to fool the opposing defense. Even the average fan zeroes in on #7 when he comes in at obvious times. Time's yours...

The Redskins just traded for another Injury Prone Player. McNabb is injury prone and so are all of there running backs. The Eagles are going to get a 4th round rick because the Redskins are not going to win 9 games, go to the playoffs and McNabb is not going to go to the pro bowl. Kevin Kolb is going to have a great year and the Eagles will win 11 or 12 games with him. The Defense is going to be great and everything will click for the Eagles as they will win the NFC East. Cowgirls win 9 or 10 games, Giants win 8 games and the Deadskins will win 5 or 6 games this year. The Deadskins can't win in the NFC East as they proved last year with no wins in the NFC East and they have a very tough schedule. McNabb is going to get sacked so many times this year and I will be Laughing so hard. I Can't Wait until McNabb gets injured and see the Deadskins Fall apart like last year.
