Harrison, Boldin and the Combine

I'm back from vacation, and there's quite a bit to cover. We'll do this in rapid fire mode.

** The Colts have agreed to release Marvin Harrison, agent Tom Condon tells the Associated Press. Harrison was asked to take a pay cut, but refused. At 36 years old, he did not have an especially good season in 2008, catching 60 balls for 636 yards and five touchdowns. Harrison had a ridiculous stretch in Indy from 1999-2006, catching at least 10 touchdowns in eight straight seasons. He'll turn 37 before the start of the '09 season. The thought of him joining the Eagles doesn't really excite me, but maybe there are some of you out there who feel differently.

** As Paul Domowitch wrote about over at Eagletarian, it was reported that WR Anquan Boldin set a Tuesday deadline for a contract extension with the Cardinals. However, a source tells Kent Somers of The Arizona Republic that no such deadline was set by Boldin's agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Boldin recently wavered from his earlier stance that he wouldn't negotiate with the Cardinals and wanted to play elsewhere. Frankly, the Cardinals hold all the power here. Boldin is under contract. The team can choose to rework his deal, trade him or keep him on board under the current terms. Not sure what a deadline would really accomplish for Boldin's camp.

** Emmitt Smith's days as an analyst at ESPN are over, which makes us very sad here at MTC. Not because we thought Smith was a great analyst, but because it was must-see TV when he was on the air. You never knew what was going to come out of his mouth. And now we won't get that anymore.

** The Combine wraps up tomorrow with defensive backs running through the on-field drills. NFL.com has all the official times if you're interested. At wide receiver, Maryland's Darrius Heyward-Bey put up the fastest 40-time, running a 4.30. Penn State's Deon Butler ran a 4.38. At running back, Ohio State's Beanie Wells, who some think is a possibility for the Eagles in the first round if he's still there, ran a 4.59, tied for 10th among RBs.
