I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

A special buzz is building around the 2009 football season in Philadelphia, and a lot of it has to do with the rivalry between the Eagles and Giants.

Defensive lineman Osi Umenyiora stoked the fire a little bit today while talking to reporters during the team's OTAs.

He told Mike Garafolo of The Newark Star Ledger that the bitterness the team holds over the way last seaon ended is contributing to their work habits in the offseason.

"They should. I do -- and I wasn't on the football field," he said. "I was on the field, but I wasn't playing and I saw the way it ended. It was a team we should have beat and it was a team that, if the opportunity arises again, we will beat."

The Eagles beat the Giants at the Meadowlands, 23-11, in the divisional round of the playoffs. The two teams split during the regular season, with the Eagles winning a Week 14 matchup, and the Giants taking the first game in Week 10.

Umenyiora missed all of last season and told Garafolo he has no pain in his surgically repaired knee.

In 2007, he had seven sacks in two regular-season contests against the Eagles, one of those being the Winston Justice game.

Umenyiora is not the only Giants player to speak up this offseason.

Last month, running back Brandon Jacobs predicted (at least) 13 wins for the Giants during his radio show.

Meanwhile, quarterback Eli Manning also took a look back at the way last season ended.

"We had a good shot at repeating," he said, per ESPN.com. "We were playing good football. And we let one slip away. We all talked about it -- the guys in this room have talked about it. We all know what's at stake here. We think we have something special -- just like last year."

I guess it's not too early to circle Sunday, Nov. 1 on your calendar. That's the date the two teams first meet, in Week 8 at the Linc. The second meeting is a Sunday night matchup in Week 14.

The New York area media brings out the hot dog in it's professional athletes. The Phils beat the Yanks 2-1 and the story of the series in New York was the Yanks players smashing one another in the face with pies. This is the same mentality here. The Birds aren't running around talking whether they'll beat the Skins or the Cards. Even if that's part of their goals. Giants...like the cowgirls are a bunch of media darlings.

2007 is history Osi. 6 of your 13 sacks came against the human turnstile Justice. That means in the other 15 games you averaged less than 1/2 sack a game. One of Plaxico's bullets must have grazed your head to think the Giants are better than the Eagles.

I think the talk about what team is better is pointless. In the Super Bowl in Feb 2008, the Pats were the better team. In the playoffs against the Eagles, the Giants were the better team. In 2007, the Mets were the better team. But the better team doesn't always play better. You can't win on paper. In the '08 SB, the Giants played better than the better team. In '07, the Phils played better than the better team. In last year's playoffs, the Eagles played better than the better team. This year, the Cavs were better than the Magic, but the Magic played better when they needed to. Just because you win doesn't make you better. It just makes you better that day, and that's really all that matters. Especially if it's Super Bowl Sunday.

We saw what the Giants are without Plaxico Burress last year. Also, the Eagles will have Jason Peters, Shawn Andrews and Stacy Andrews on the o-line, none of whom the Giants saw last season. Of course it's all on paper at this point but the Eagles look like the better team.

The Giants folded like a cheap tent last year. Not because of the defense but because their offense came down to earth. Eli was Eli again. I don't know how they expect to be better than last year. They have lost Burress and they have lost half of their running game. We will see. Keep on talking it only makes it sweeter to beat you and you will be beaten, again

Scorekeeper, I beg to differ that the Giants were the better team last year. Remember the Eagles beat them twice in NJ. How can you imply that the 23-11 win was a fluke? The Eagles controlled the line of scrimmage in that game. I don't see Eli Manning beating the Eagles without Plaxico. That's a tough receiver to replace.

Just because the Giants have won 3 SBs or they won 2 seasons ago, doesn't mean that the Birds or their fans should put up with them talking smack. That's the chumps way, to back down from bullies. And the truth is, that's why they start each season anew. To give every team an opportunity to hoist the Lombardi. No need to be scared.

Shouldve, wouldve, couldve. blah blah blah. The point is you DIDNT beat them. You had 3 chances and lost 2 games to 1 so just be a good sport and admit the better team won. What more proof do you need to see that we were better? We beat you in the regular season in your own house, then we did it again when it mattered most. Man up and be a good loser.

I have a friend that's Giants fan, and whenever we discuss last season he keeps asking me how many super bowl rings the Eagles have. The only thing I can say is that you can only go by the last year, and last year we were better because we beat them twice and went farther in the playoffs. Now if only the Eagles could get that ring, he would have one less thing to throw in my face. GO BIRDS.

"If the opportunity arises, we will beat them again." EARTH TO OSI: Divisional rivals play each other twice per season, minimum. So the opportunities 9plural) have already been scheduled. "It's a team we should have beat." REALLY? Like the second time the teams played? The only game that was close was the first one, a game the Eagles arguably "should have" won. The Giants didn't choke in the playoffs, they were squarely outplayed by a better team. With all their faults, the 2008 Eagles UNDERPERFORMED at 9-6-1. By the end of the year, there was no question they were better than the Giants. And it showed in the playoffs. Manning says they let that game "slip away." Yeah, at the opening kickoff.

Eagles fans, you got a GIFT from our offensive coordinator, who was incompetent and wouldn't know a screen or slant or flare if it bit him in the a**. The following week Haley ran six screens on you and roasted your defensive pressure. As for nyg pressure, it was not there, and credit your team with not allowing a single sack last season against nyg. You responded with Peters. The Giants have Osi coming back + Canty + Bernard + healthy Tuck + lots of depth for adequate DL rotation. Should be another good season. Money talks, bs walks, go to vegas and bet the Eagles (9) over and the Giants (10.5) under. Vegas is giving you guys free money. lol.

Why not go and post on your home site. It seems the team of the OTHERS are truly afraid of what we have on paper. Did Mac show you that we own you with his Telephone act, oops ..'I thought this was our bench'! If that game didn't show you that even a deficient team like the Birds could rise from the grave and whack you with impunity when needed. Your fans of the Eagles, and your talking about choking? What happens to your joke of a team when they somehow make it to the NFC champ games all these times? HAHAHA.. nice one... Yea, we have the Mets and Jets... We also have the Yankees and Giants. Let me remind you Giants won the Division your joke of a team played in last year, and won the superbowl the year before (the same year when Osi made a joke of your entire line and pathetic QB). Yankees are speaking for themselves right now.. So have fun....
