Eagles work out LB Bowen

The Eagles worked out free-agent linebacker Alvin Bowen on Tuesday, according to a report.

The Eagles worked out free-agent linebacker Alvin Bowen Tuesday, league sources told Adam Caplan of FoxSports.com.

Bowen, 26, was a fifth-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2008. He tore his ACL during training camp and was released from the Bills' practice squad in September of last season. The Redskins added him to their practice squad and then their active roster during the '09 season. They released Bowen last month. He's listed at 6-1, 223 pounds.

The Eagles have Ernie Sims penciled in at weak-side linebacker. Behind him is Akeem Jordan, who played well there during the first half of last season.

Bowen attended Iowa State, where he appeared in 46 games, starting 34 of them.

The Eagles will continue to work out players even after they open camp next week. As Eagletarian pointed out earlier today, the Birds reportedly also took a look at Arena League WR Rod Windsor. Last year, if you remember, they brought in defensive end Jason Babin during camp, and he became a regular part of Sean McDermott's defensive line rotation.

Earlier I posted on Brandon Graham, Brian Baldinger and the Eagles' secondary.
