Eagles sign safety, announce new scout

The Eagles have signed safety Ryan Hamilton, the team announced today.

The Saints signed Hamilton (6-2, 210) as an undrafted free agent in April but released him earlier this week. He was a four-year starter at Vanderbilt, but only played in two games as a senior because of a torn pectoral muscle. Hamilton finished his career with five INTs, two sacks and three forced fumbles.

He's a local product from Wycombe and attended Council Rock North High School, where yours truly played multiple tennis tournaments in high school.

The Birds also officially announced the hiring of Daniel Jeremiah, who I wrote about earlier this week. Here's their release on him:

A former scout for the Cleveland Browns (2007-08) and Baltimore Ravens (2003-06), Jeremiah was a starting quarterback for Appalachian State for three years (1998-2000) after transferring from Northeast Louisiana (1996-97). He graduated from Appalachian State with a degree in broadcast management and marketing and worked as a production assistant for ESPN’s Sunday Night Football from 2001-02 prior to joining the Ravens.

For the record, the Eagles' press release mentions nothing about Move The Sticks, which was the NFL scouting Web site Jeremiah had been operating until earlier this month. Jeremiah had a following of over 19,000 on Twitter and also recorded several podcasts leading up to the draft.

As some of you have pointed out, the Twitter account has since been disabled, as has the Web site ( This doesn't really surprise me. Paranoia runs rampant in the NFL. No team wants others to know what anyone on their staffs think. It just seemed a bit abrupt with Jeremiah's accounts. Too bad he couldn't at least explain to his readers that he would stop blogging, podcasting and Tweeting to take a job with the Eagles. He had built up a pretty big following.

Don't worry - if the Birds ever call on me to be their Delaware County scout, I'll be sure to say good-bye to you all first.
