Donovan McNabb and the Eagles can finish as high as No. 2 or as low as No. 6, depending on what happens in the final two weeks of the regular season. ( Ron Cortes / Staff Photographer )

During our live chat on Tuesday, several of you threw different scenarios my way and asked what they would mean in terms of playoff seeding for the Birds.

So here is a Q&A on how things could shake out in the final two weeks. If you have a question or scenario that I didn't answer, feel free to e-mail me and I'll try to get to it before the early kickoffs on Sunday.

What do the Eagles have to gain or lose in the final two weeks?

The Birds have clinched a playoff spot, but they could finish as high as the No. 2 seed (first-round bye, hosting a divisional round game), or as low as No. 6 (if they lose out on the division to the Cowboys). So, actually, they have quite a bit to gain or lose down the stretch.

How can the Eagles leap the Vikings for the No. 2 seed?

This one's fairly simple. If the Eagles win out AND the Vikings lose one of their final two games, both teams would finish at 12-4, and the Eagles would win the tiebreak, earning the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye.

But there's actually a scenario where the Eagles can lose one of their final two games and still earn the No. 2 seed. If the Eagles lose to the Broncos, but beat the Cowboys AND the Vikings lose both of their remaining games, both teams would finish at 11-5, and the Eagles would win the tiebreak.

Can the Eagles clinch the NFC East on Sunday?

Yes. If the Eagles beat the Broncos and the Cowboys lose to the Redskins, the Birds would have the NFC East locked up going into Week 17.

In that scenario, would the finale in Dallas have any meaning?

This one's a little tricky. It would still have meaning, but a different meaning. As mentioned above, the Eagles would still have a shot at jumping the Vikings for the No. 2 seed. However, if the Vikings finish 2-0, and their game ends before Eagles-Cowboys in Week 17, the Eagles are locked in to the No. 3 seed. In other words, in this scenario, if the Eagles and Cardinals both finish at 11-5, the Birds would win the tiebreak.

What are the different ways the Eagles can win the division?

I think I've got these covered:

  • Finish 2-0.
  • Finish 1-1, but beat the Cowboys in Week 17.
  • Finish 1-1, beating the Broncos and losing to the Cowboys, BUT have Dallas lose to the Redskins in Weeek 16.
  • Finish 0-2. Cowboys finish 1-1, beating the Eagles in Week 17. Giants win out. This would create a three-team tie at 10-6 for first place. The Eagles win the division in this scenario.

How can the Cowboys win the division?

Not as many possibilities:

  • Win out, beating the Redskins in Week 16 and the Eagles in Week 17.
  • Finish 1-1, but beat the Eagles. And the Eagles lose to the Broncos in Week 16.

Can the game-time for Eagles-Cowboys in Week 17 be changed?

Yes. NFL rules state a game can be flexed on six days notice in Week 17. Barry Horn of the Dallas Morning-News explains the process in greater detail, but don't be surprised if the league announces Sunday night that Eagles-Cowboys has been moved to prime-time.

Who might the Eagles play in the first round?

If the Eagles don't jump the Vikings, they will be playing on wild-card weekend. But who will be their opponent? It really could be a number of different teams, but many of you in the chat wanted to know if the Eagles could face the Cowboys. And the answer is absolutely. There's a scenario where they could host the Giants in the first round also. And there's actually a slim scenario where the Giants AND the Cowboys could get in, but it would require a collapse from the Packers.

Earlier, we posted about the Eagles-Broncos line.

And don't forget, you can join me Sunday afternoon for a live hat from the Linc.

Finish 0-2. Cowboys finish 1-1, beating the Eagles in Week 17. Giants win out. This would create a three-team tie at 10-6 for first place. The Eagles win the division in this scenario. This is wrong...Dallas holds the tie breaker over us therefore DALLAS would win DIV if its a 3way tie...

5isthebest, It could be a three-way tie; it is unlikely but it could happen, so you are the moron. You just never know. Look at all that had to happen in the last weekend last year for the Birds to get in.

rayne215 you are wrong. The eagles would win the division because they would have a better division record than Dallas. The tie-breaker would be between Dallas and NY which NY holds based on them beating the cowboys twice.

here are the nfl tiebreak rules from nfl.com: Two Clubs Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs). Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference. Strength of victory. Strength of schedule. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed. Best net points in common games. Best net points in all games. Best net touchdowns in all games. Coin toss Three or More Clubs (Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated during any step, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of the two-club format). Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games among the clubs). Coin toss so if the cowboys, eagles, and giants were tied at 10-6, it would come down to record in common games (i.e. teams all 3 have played). will check that and update...

So it could be over tomorrow, if the Eagles make sure they don't let Orten look like an All-Pro QB again this year, and if the redskins would salvage their year by fnally beating the Cowboys. But I guess that would all be too easy.

It is interesting that, in theory, if a tie-breaker goes down to the last tie-breaker, the winner is decided by a coin toss. Of course that is pretty much the definition of impossible, but it is interesting to note that there will never be a playoff game to decide any tie-break scenario.

I know all you guys hate Dallas a lot more than me because I can out-hate the Giants more than any of you. (Personal reasons out the yin-yang coming from living up here in Giants/Jets land) Those playoff scenarios were great but they never mentioned the possibilities of the Giants - what would be the best (for them) and most disastrous for the Eagles. I would want to avoid playing the Giants in the postseason simply because of how horrible it would be to stumble against THEM. The are now on the cupcake return schedule- they beat the pathetic Skins, they play the even more pathetic Carolina team and then MN will lay down for them and rest everyone so the Giants might win out. Combine that with the fluky and goofy possible bounces that seem to happen in only Eagle games [SEE Bears, Sean Considine, illegal procedure penalty erasing the QB sack/fumble/touchdown game-sealer called back play - a typical example] and if I were a Giants fan, I would not be losing all hope. It's bad enough I have to watch Eli do his horrible imitation of Peyton every week but to have him beat the Eagles would be just torturous. Besides, if you talk to Giants fans they seem to think that they are now all cured, on a roll, and on their way to a Super Bowl. One minute, the season is over, then they win one, and then they are on their way to a Super Bowl. For example, after Lee beat them in game one, they wated to fire Girardi and trade A-Roid. The next day, they had it sown up. They are like that in every sport. The day after a game it's the end of the world, one win later and it's marching to the championship. They demand the wins because THEY PAID FOR THEM and in New ork, they feel evrything is deservedly theirs. Just because they are New York. Dallas fans are just D-bags. New Yorkers are abnoxious morons and I have to live among them.
