Eagles get shot at Jarmon today
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
The NFL's supplemental draft takes place today at 1 p.m., and there's a chance the Eagles could have a new player on their roster by the day's end.
ESPN.com's Joe Schad reported last month that the Birds were taking a look at Kentucky defensive end Jeremy Jarmon.
The supplemental draft is for players who are not eligible for the upcoming football season. Jarmon tested positive for a banned substance, but told the Lexington Herald-Leader he's trying to put the situation behind him.
"Some teams didn’t even ask about it," he said. "The questions they had were answered by Mitch Barnhart (UK’s athletics director) and Sandy Bell (UK’s compliance director). Some teams just wanted me to explain my mind-set, and throughout the process they’ve been understanding. All the information is out there, they’ve seen it all, and now they’re ready to move on and find someone to help them on their defensive line."
NFL.com's Gil Brandt does a good job of explaining how the supplemental draft works.
It's a round-by-round process that takes place over the phone (or over e-mail, as some other reports indicate). Teams get their chance to pick a player or pass.
The catch is that if you make a pick, you have to give up that selection in next year's draft. In other words, if the Eagles selected a player in the sixth round of the supplemental draft, they would lose a sixth-round pick in the 2010 draft.
ESPN.com's John Clayton projects Jarmon to have a fourth-round value, and I've seen other insiders predict the same via Twitter.
Eighteen teams watched Jarmon work out last week, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader. Per the report, he weighed in at 278 pounds, and his 40-time ranged between 4.79 and 4.83.
The National Football Post said Jarmon was expected to be in the mix as a first-day pick in next year's draft, had he been eligible to play another season at Kentucky. Of course, as we see every year, draft projections can change dramatically from the start of a prospect's junior or senior season to the end.
We'll be back some time this afternoon to fill you in on who picked up Jarmon and the other prospects so check back.

You have to remeber these are people who know all there is to know about pro football......From the couch...Defintely much wiser and more knowledgeable than the guys getting paid millions to coach and play at this level. I do believe Kevin Kolb can and will start in the NFL for someone. Idiots......bunch of smacked rears...have another beer........ The Manager
Can teams trade up or down in the supplemental draft? Based on the Eagles' moves in the regular draft, I halfway expect them to do something similar today. paolibulldog
I bet 16 NFL Teams would love to have Kolb, even if it was a back-up. Gringo4

I think that a lot of the heat that Kolb gets has been generated by the staff annointing him as the Next Great One. All you hear about is how ready this guy is to step right in, how much potential he has, we don't want anybody else, blah, blah, blah. So now, when the fans inevitably turn on McNabb, all they have to turn to is Kolb. And he just ain't ready for prime time yet. I would take the back ups on a bunch of teams before him (Raiders, Browns, Lions, Bucs, Steelers...I could go on) and that is not promising. He was supposed to be competing for the job by now, getting ready to push #5 off the center square. Do any of you see him as the starting QB for our team anytime soon? Ever? stonemason

Kolb will be a starter in the NFL...just not the Eagles. He isn't going to hold a clip board for 2 more seasons then re-up. TheNationHimself- Who the F cares about Kubb? This article is about the supplemental draft. Can we stay on topic here?
Who cares go Phils! deldog64
That's all this blog is, is opinions. I don't think anyone has the true facts we can only give our opinion on what we see. In my opinion Kob was no better than a 3-4th round draft choice. The Iggles didn't need him, but that's another story. It's water under the bridge McNabb will be around for another 5-7 yrs anyway. We should get rid of Kob only if he actually can be a starter otherwise he has little value. I don't think Kob has shown enough to determine his value. Right now he's probably worth a 6th round pick BBAX
the manager: your right lets leave it up to te people that make millions... they restructured mcnabbs contract, they want to give him a new contract with more years.. maybe thats because they realize that kolb sucks.. use your brain before you type... they are laying out all the pieces to tell us that kolb sucks.. if he was good he would be starting qb now and the eagles would not have worried about mcanabbs contract...idiot bleed green forever
