Eagles expected to work out RB Brown

POSTED: Wednesday, March 11, 2009, 7:48 PM

Connecticut running back Donald Brown told Sirius NFL Radio that he'll take part in private workouts for the Eagles, Jets and Bengals, per profootballtalk.com.

Brown is listed at 5-foot-10, 210 pounds. He ran a 4.51 40-yard dash at the combine, fifth-best among running backs.

He had the top vertical jump among RBs and ranked second in the broad jump (if that matters to you).

Our buddy Scott Wright over at draftcountdown.com has Brown listed as his fourth-best running back.

Wright told us last week that Brown should be considered part of the top tier of running backs, along with Chris "Beanie" Wells of Ohio State; Pitt's LeSean McCoy; and Georgia's Knowshon Moreno.

ESPN.com's Mel Kiper Jr. also ranks Brown fourth among running backs.

NFL.com's Mike Mayock has Brown ranked second, saying: "great quickness, makes people miss, patient."

How early will the Eagles address running back in April's draft?

Paul Domowitch over at Eagletarian predicts it will be the Eagles' top priority.

Here's a highlight video of Brown on YouTube:

Wow, That's a First, But hes not a first round pick, maybe a second. I've seen some of his highlights, and he's not a big back. Rashaad Jennings Is what the Eagles Need. I seriously think that he fit's the Birds.

There is no need for a big back. There's a need for a versatile running back with a bigger frame than Westbrook, but there's no need for someone whose only appeal is his size.

EaglesFan2008; I guess the eagles didn't draft a 6'2" 225lbs RB in the 3rd round 2 years ago. owumd is correct, they don't need a big back for the sake of a big back. They need a young quality back to give West a blow and to start in his place when he inevitably gets banged up every year. Brown fits that mold and would be a great pick in the 2nd round for the Birds.

Yes, I like thats Rashad Jennings guy. They can run that delay up the middle with him rather then keep running westbrook up the middle. Westbrook is best at screens and sweeps.

Considering that Moats and Tony Hunt couldn't learn the offense, and Westbrook was irrelevant as a rook probably for the same reason, counting on a rookie RB to back up someone who will be hurt by week 6 and Booker can't even suit up correctly, I'd say the Eagles made another excellent personnel decision in letting Buckhalter walk.

Come on everyone. This is the Eagles. They won't pick a RB before the 3rd round becasue they are smarter than everyone else. Just prepare yourself for linemen in our first few picks, unless we trade them away for future picks next year.
