Eagles' QB situation in national focus

With the big names in free agency having signed, and the draft still more than five weeks away, the biggest offseason issue right now is what the Eagles will do with their three quarterbacks.
That's the argument Peter King of SI.com made in his MMQB column today.
More specifically, King shifts the focus to NFL teams who have holes at quarterback, questioning why they're not going to the Eagles more aggressively to get Donovan McNabb:
Re: Seattle, franchise saviors usually don't last forever. Nick Saban and Steve Spurrier can tell you that. If I'm Pete Carroll, and I can have McNabb as my quarterback for the next four years, I jump at it. Cleveland, Oakland, Buffalo and Jacksonville are 7 through 10. If I'm Reid, I'm keeping Kolb (which I think he aims to do), and hoping/praying some team comes to its senses and chases McNabb before the draft.
King also points out that Marty Mornhinweg and Eagles quarterbacks coach James Urban were at Fordham's Pro Day last week to check out quarterback John Skelton:
I think one of the quarterbacks is going. Where, I don't know. When, I don't know. But one last note about the Eagles and quarterbacks: Fordham University, not exactly a football hotbed, had its pro day for NFL coaches and scouts Friday in the Bronx. Fordham has a late-round quarterback prospect, John Skelton. The Eagles were at the workout with not one coach but two -- quarterback coach James Urban and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. Maybe it means nothing, but it's pretty rare for two coaches to be looking at a late-round quarterback -- especially when you're as packed at quarterback as the Eagles are. Unless, of course, you're planning to jettison one of your quarterbacks before the draft.
Sounds like a bit of a leap to me. The coaches will evaluate hundreds of prospects between now and the draft. That's just what teams do in March. King admits as much. But it's worth pointing out nonetheless. I'd venture to guess that the Eagles will look at players at every position, regardless of what their current roster looks like.
Also, I did some poking around, and some draft pundits have Skelton rated pretty highly. Wes Bunting of the National Football Post has him as the fourth-best QB prospect in the draft. If that's the case, he'll be an early-to-middle round pick, not a late-round pick.
T.O., McNabb team up
You probably remember reading last week that Donovan McNabb and Terrell Owens were scheduled to team up for an episode of Spike TV's Pros vs. Joes.
By all accounts, things went well. Tweeted Owens:
Had a blast shooting Pros vs Joes last nite! It's a MUST 2 tune n2 2 watch me, A Gates & D McNabb on the hardwood vs NBA players!
And Tweeted FoxSports.com's Jay Glazer, who's a part of the show:
After taping that special episode of pros vs joes, I can say that T.O. & McNabb were more than fine w each other. They had a blast
So there you have it. Everyone had a blast. Not sure when the show airs. Maybe we'll do a live chat during it.
Or maybe not.

The most prudent thing to do is keep 5 & KK, IF WINNING THE SUPER BOWL is the main objective. If getting as much as possible in return via a trade is the main objective, then trade 5 & Vick (Sheldon too) and stock up on picks for this draft. If SEA is willing to send us both 1sts for KK, you do it quicker than you can blink your eyes and move up to get 1 of the monster DT's and/or Berry (who is the most NFL ready player in the draft, and would have most E's fans asking themselves Dwakins who? by game 8 of next season). I remember when we drafted Bobby Hoying and he lit the world on fire during his spot duty then the next season when teams game planned for him he folded like a lawn chair. I remember in St. Louis how they forced Warner out so they could start the young stud behind him. That young stud was Marc Bulger and he too lit the world on fire the 1st chance he got then folded into a lawn chair. I wonder how well Kolb will do knowing that he will have to put up 30+ points and a another 21 points in the 4th quarter because of the porous Eagles defense. The problem isn't the QB the problem is that Hugh Douglas, Ike Reese, Steward Bradley, Sheldon Brown, Troy Vincent, Cory Simon, Levon Kirkland, Jeremiah Trotter and the mighty Brian Dawkins have combined for 0-sacks, 0-int's and 0-fumbles in all of our championship loses. The only quarter that our defense has played well in was the 3rd quarter against the Cardinals. They made up for it in the 4th quarter by letting a broken down Edgerrin James run up the gut and kill 12 minutes of clock. Then to add insult to injury they allowed a 2 point conversion. But maybe we can still blame McNabb because he should have been an ironman playing middle linebacker. Nothing but the truth
I had read about a week ago that this guy Skelton was real impressive at the combines, even though he didn't come from a big tome football school. It's about time they started to look at some college players from the east.Since they took Westbrook from Villanova, they have let too many late round picks and free agents go elsewhere and be succcessful. watsonmr
T.O., "I'm happy you guys were buddying up..Really. now please take mcnabb with! mikeaz12
Keep McNabb and Kolb ! The Vick experiment was a failure ... Gringo4
Andy says it, and I for one, believe him: Mc5 will be the starting QB next season. The main thing is to use the draft, and perhaps some judicious trades to fix our poor 'ol defense. If Andy & Co. can bring the "D" up to at least above NFL average, we WILL go to the NFC Championship game. If the O-Line gets fixed also, we win the damn Superbowl. But I am not betting that either of these will happen, no matter who the QB is. The "D" just needs too much fixing. TBear
Ah, I see that Peter King is joining Clark Judge on the Eagles' payroll. Being complimentary of McNabb, yet saying if you were Reid, you would trade him. I wish the Eagles would just end the charade: Keep him or trade him. Let Jackson and Maclin and Celek know who their QB is going to be. There are many needs on D that need to be addressed. Randall has to be laughing at this. 76erfn
kub had such a great game especially against the saints (touchdown to Darren Sharper){oh he is not on the Eagles} and i have seen yards and touchdown passes hmmmm 10 yd pass to DJ and watched him run the rest (vs chiefs). You guys are still nuts if the kub was so great he would have been starting last year. I will take wins vs passing yardage any day of the week. Marquis
It beats having a QB controversy with the pervert in Pittsburg! GuamDoc
If you can get a 1st round pick for Kolb, do it (let alone two, that's just ridiculous) and you take it and package for Berry if he starts to slide, or Earl Thomas if he makes it to the late teens, and then take best DL, OL, or RB with your next picks. Still like Toby Gerhardt to compliment Shady with 2nd round pick, somebody is going to draft him early. Got to take advantage of the draft with the depth they say that's in it. Bleue
King said it was like "Groundhog Day" in Philadelphia with McNabb. Well put. Han Solo
t_darb_tard, your post must be very important since it's ALL IN CAPS!Mcnabb will be traded during the draft when both top QB's go in the top ten. Klambake- One of the QB's is going to be dealt. It could be during the draft when some team who desparately needs a QB sees the one they want go off the board before they pick. One more thing, it is starting to look like a lowball offer may be the best that Westbrooks gets. If so maybe it will be from the Birds. I really think he should retire, but a contract with a low base and some incentives might be worth a shot.
if the eagles plan on keepign mcnab, they better sign him to a 3,4, or 5 year deal so he has trade value after this season. otherwise, they better trade him before the draft for the best offer. It would suck to keep him, lose in the first round of playoffs again, and then he walks. Question: if he doesnt resign and plays the season out what can the eagles get for mcnizzle if he walks after the 2010 season? pop pop
yo reddg, you got me already asking- “dWakins who?”??? bboybeballin
