Eagles' QB situation in national focus

With the big names in free agency having signed, and the draft still more than five weeks away, the biggest offseason issue right now is what the Eagles will do with their three quarterbacks.
That's the argument Peter King of SI.com made in his MMQB column today.
More specifically, King shifts the focus to NFL teams who have holes at quarterback, questioning why they're not going to the Eagles more aggressively to get Donovan McNabb:
Re: Seattle, franchise saviors usually don't last forever. Nick Saban and Steve Spurrier can tell you that. If I'm Pete Carroll, and I can have McNabb as my quarterback for the next four years, I jump at it. Cleveland, Oakland, Buffalo and Jacksonville are 7 through 10. If I'm Reid, I'm keeping Kolb (which I think he aims to do), and hoping/praying some team comes to its senses and chases McNabb before the draft.
King also points out that Marty Mornhinweg and Eagles quarterbacks coach James Urban were at Fordham's Pro Day last week to check out quarterback John Skelton:
I think one of the quarterbacks is going. Where, I don't know. When, I don't know. But one last note about the Eagles and quarterbacks: Fordham University, not exactly a football hotbed, had its pro day for NFL coaches and scouts Friday in the Bronx. Fordham has a late-round quarterback prospect, John Skelton. The Eagles were at the workout with not one coach but two -- quarterback coach James Urban and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. Maybe it means nothing, but it's pretty rare for two coaches to be looking at a late-round quarterback -- especially when you're as packed at quarterback as the Eagles are. Unless, of course, you're planning to jettison one of your quarterbacks before the draft.
Sounds like a bit of a leap to me. The coaches will evaluate hundreds of prospects between now and the draft. That's just what teams do in March. King admits as much. But it's worth pointing out nonetheless. I'd venture to guess that the Eagles will look at players at every position, regardless of what their current roster looks like.
Also, I did some poking around, and some draft pundits have Skelton rated pretty highly. Wes Bunting of the National Football Post has him as the fourth-best QB prospect in the draft. If that's the case, he'll be an early-to-middle round pick, not a late-round pick.
T.O., McNabb team up
You probably remember reading last week that Donovan McNabb and Terrell Owens were scheduled to team up for an episode of Spike TV's Pros vs. Joes.
By all accounts, things went well. Tweeted Owens:
Had a blast shooting Pros vs Joes last nite! It's a MUST 2 tune n2 2 watch me, A Gates & D McNabb on the hardwood vs NBA players!
And Tweeted FoxSports.com's Jay Glazer, who's a part of the show:
After taping that special episode of pros vs joes, I can say that T.O. & McNabb were more than fine w each other. They had a blast
So there you have it. Everyone had a blast. Not sure when the show airs. Maybe we'll do a live chat during it.
Or maybe not.

Folks, be patient for goodness sake! We still have a few weeks before the draft. If McNabb gets traded, which I think he will, it will be just a few days before the draft. The Eagles are holding out for the best deal they can get. Patience! I can't wait to read Sheil's reaction when McNabb gets traded. Sheil, you gotta admit. You carry McNabb's water. soulman386
yeah even as a HUGE SU fan i think its time to trade Donovan. For everyone's sake. the eagles have to either extend him and kolb or trade donovan. no other choice. the perfect thing would be to trade donovan for a 1st, Vick for a 2nd, but i think that might be asking too much. getting a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th out of those 2 might be the best someone could do. sasquatches
Most likely, the one they'll get rid of is Vick. Just have to wait for the right offer. HandNik- Did McNabb attempt bounce passes in the basketball game and accidently through them in a manner which leads the receive to keep on moving? burholme
@lonewolf 10 - How exactly could keeping McNabb 1 more year end up hurting this team for at least a decade? That's an extreme exaggeration. I think most NFL Experts believe Kolb can do the job, but NONE of them are picking the Eagles to get to and make the Superbowl with him. So what's the rush? If the Eagles believe they have a 1 year window, you take and use the player that gives you the best chance to win it. Whether we the fans believe they have a 1 year shot is a whole different issue...but the thing is, it's their business. They own it. They run it the way they want to, just like any business. You don't walk into McDonalds and tell them to change the recipe on a Big Mac, do you? (pun intended) For better or worse, that's how it is. sf1027
Seattle has the #6 and #14 picks. I can see them trading the #14 pick for McNabb and using the #6 pick on one of the blue chip OTs. That would give them a solid foundation to start winning right away. Maybe the Eagles would have to throw in another pick. The Eagles could draft Brandon Graham at #14 and possibly get Earl Thomas at #24. Win-win for both teams. But of course McNabb would have to agree to an extension with the Seahawks. soulman386- Just read my last post. My apologies for butchering the English language. No more martinis for lunch. burholme
No stats wolf?..Well thank you for that, but the rest of your dribble can be erased. It's taking ten steps back if they go with KK, #5 has plenty of good to better football in him. Keep stacking some talent around him and win the big one as a team, all this blame on him and him alone from the McNabb bashers just shows a lack of insight, he doesn't play defense and he can't block for himself. And short of changing every play at the line, he doesn't dictate the stupid play calling of Moronwheg and AR. Get Gerhardt with the 2nd round pick, utilize more of the power running game, just like previous SB winners have done. Bleue- Trading DM requires a 1st round pick, and Vick requires a 3rd round pick, and I suspect no teams have provided those kinds of offers yet. I also suspect Kolb isn't going anywhere. Rumor has it that many teams have inquired about DM and Kolb, but no-one puts much value on Vick. Teams are offering 2nd round picks for DM or Kolb, which if true explains why nothing has happened. Keeping all 3 remains a possibility... JohnFC
Wolf - agree that #5 needs to be traded before the draft, but his value won't disappear after the draft. Birds can always franchise him at the end of this year. He's still worth a 2nd or 3rd - which is all the Eagles get for him this year anyway. dragoon6- The fact that well-known and repetitive Cowgirls fan lonewolf wants McNabb gone pretty much says it all.
This team let go its best RB and the best LB we have (pending Bradley making a full recovery) - so why keep McNabb around for 1 more year when this ownership isn't putting all of his chips on the table to make a run at a championship? If you are going to rebuild - then rebuild and take your lumps next year and let Kolb get his feet wet. Otherwise, it is just setting this franchise back by delaying the inevitable themadhacker2000
Lonewolf is right! The time is right to trade McNabb. If a McNabb trade happens it needs to be before the draft because teams start their mini-camps right after the draft. The problem with keeping McNabb as the starter and using the franchise tag on him after next season is that Kolb is on the last year of his contract too. They would need to use the franchise tag to retain Kolb in that scenario. soulman386
U ALL HATERS.....KEEP MC NABB..WE HAD HIM FOR THIS LONG,ANOTHER YEAR,WON'T HURT.WE COULD HAVE HAD L.T ON THE TEAM, WHY U GUYS PASSED UP ON HIM IS A MYSTERY.I FEEL HE WILL MAKE THE JETS A LOT BETTER WITH HIM IN THE BACKFIELD.RESIGN WESTBROOK,MAYBE AT A BARGAIN BASEMENT PRICE.HOPEFULLY IF THIS DON'T HAPPEN, THERE WILL BE SOME SLEEPER BACKS COMING OUTTA SCHOOL,AND WE CAN LAND ONE OR TRADE FOR ONE.THE EAGLES WILL KEEP MC NABB,COUNT ON THAT..SO ALL U MC NABB BASHERS CAN CRY IN YOUR BEERS! t_darb_56
