Eagles work out Ohio State LBs

The Eagles worked out a pair of Ohio State linebackers on Monday, according to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post.

The Birds got an up-close look at Brian Rolle and Ross Homan.

Rolle (5-10, 229) was a first-team All-Big Ten selection as a senior, totaling 76 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions. At the combine, he ran a 4.56 40-yard dash, third-best among linebackers.

Per Wilson, Rolle, who played middle linebacker with the Buckeyes, has also been participating in defensive back drills for NFL scouts.

Homan, meanwhile, is listed at 6-1, 240. He had 73 tackles, a sack, two forced fumbles and an interception as a senior. Like Rolle, Homan was a first-team All-Big Ten selection.

At the combine, he led all linebackers in the bench press, putting up 225 pounds 32 times. Homan was a three-year starter at Ohio State.

As I've written in the last couple of posts, the 2011 offseason could operate under the 2010 rules even if no new CBA is in place. That would mean players would need six years of service to become unrestricted free agents.

Earlier this month, the Birds tendered Stewart Bradley at a second-round level. He has four years of service.

The Eagles did not offer tenders to Ernie Sims, Omar Gaither or Akeem Jordan. All three players started at linebacker at one point or another in the past two seasons.
