Eagles to check out QBs Cousins, Tannehill
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
The Eagles plan on hosting Michigan State quarterback Kirk Cousins for a visit, according to Alex Marvez of FoxSports.com.
NFL Network's Mike Mayock has Cousins (6-3, 214) ranked as his fifth-best quarterback.
ESPN's Todd McShay thinks Cousins will be among seven quarterbacks taken in the first two rounds. Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III are obviously expected to go one and two. And Ryan Tannehill of Texas A&M is also widely considered a first-round pick.
The next group appears to include Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden, Arizona State's Brock Osweiler, Cousins and Arizona's Nick Foles.
Cousins was a three-year starter with the Spartans, completing nearly 64 percent of his passes in 2011. He threw 66 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in his college career. Here's part of the NFL.com scouting report on Cousins:
He is a self-made guy, a tireless worker who has deficiencies that could hurt his pro potential. He is not a very strong deep thrower; while his velocity is adequate, his accuracy when throwing deep is questionable. Ultimately, Cousins is a guy who could get drafted based on his experience and intangibles, and will need to put on size and fine-tune certain throwing deficiencies to catch on at the next level.
And from Wes Bunting of the National Football Post:
A solid athlete who isn't overly impressive physically, but he has enough to make it in the NFL. Needs to take that next step in his understanding of the offense this year and cut down on the mental errors. However, he's a good kid, a hard worker and has some real similar qualities to some of the senior quarterbacks who came off the board this year (Ponder/Dalton). Nevertheless, his struggles with pressure could hold him back from ever becoming an NFL starter.
It would not surprise me if the Eagles drafted a quarterback in the first few rounds. They currently have Mike Kafka and Trent Edwards as candidates to back up Michael Vick, but I don't think that's good enough. They could add another veteran in the coming weeks. If they do draft a quarterback early, my guess is it'd be someone they project to have upside as a quality starter.
Earlier Thursday, I posted on how Asante Samuel stacked up in 2011. And on Friday, I will post the full list of reported Eagles draft visits.
UPDATE: The Eagles will hold a private workout with Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill in College Station, Texas, according to the Daily News. Tannehill held his pro day on Thursday.

no thanks sore richard
Not good deep.sounds like the worst possible fit for our offense.no qb this year please.if ur gonna draft a qb draft a starter no a backup.no starters available after #2. Sean s.
Exactly Sean. S. No Kevin Kolb lookalikes. We need a guy with a arm that can operate our offense and not throw our recievers into concussions. Zeru
OMG! If Reid drafts a QB and that office gives him an extension I'm DONE! Ace-Philadelphia
Wasted pick! younged
Sounds just like Kafka. ej610
I think vicks got 2 more years.draft his succesor high in rd 1 next year and groom him for a year behind vick. Sean s.
Russell Wilson in the 5th round. bearsfriend
Those scouting reports on cousins would have me running away.... Tannehill could be the real deal, but he will not be there when the eagles are making their pick in rd 1. Mr. Magee
Totally agree with bearsfriend.... Russel Wilson in the 5th... He has Drew Brees type qualities... he will slide like Brees did because he is short like Brees. soldierboy
After witnessing Eagles recent Quarterback picks in the draft, namely Kevin Kolb and Mike Kafka, I have no hope and, or belief in the Eagles abilities to evaluate Quarterbacking Talent to pick a QB before round 5, or our Fifth Pick this year.
We need to tighten up the middle of the defense, bring in a Big and Speedy Receiver, then a key Linebacker and from there our a Tackle, CB, Safety, and Return specialist.

No doubt that Vicks years are numbered but a QB in the 1st round is a no-go. The team still needs help in other places. however if there is a QB in the latter rounds with some arm strength, is taller than a midget, doesnt throw balls in the dirt or choke in the 4th. urbnasty
Short of Tannehill how are any of these guys more valuable than a Kafka who's been in the system for a couple years? And if it's Tannehill it'd have to be in the first round and that's just plain crazy with the holes this team has! It will once again wreak of Reid's arrogance and the fact that he has zero pressure on him to win now instead looking to roll the dice on the future. THE-KID (WI)
Hope we're not placing our superbowl bets on Avant and Cooper for another season. I think we seen enough to realize we need more competition in that area. Why not draft michael floyd who could potentially become our Number 1 receiver. Having a 6'3 big receiver would allow Maclin and desean to make plays down the field. We need to be able to compete against the Giants,Packers and San Fran who are STACKED on offense! These teams have great defenses and elite offenses. The ravens defense over the years has always been elite but the offense can never put points on the board to beat the patriots. Who now have Gronkoski,Hernadez,Ocho,LLoyd,Welker - Please draft FLoyd so we can compete. If we dont the JETS or the Bears will grab him and i understand why. Yes_General
Kirk Cousins looks like Cary Elwes in the Princess Bride dragoon6
