Too many mistakes for Eagles in loss

POSTED: Sunday, October 3, 2010, 7:25 PM

The Eagles delivered a sloppy performance in Donovan McNabb's return to Philadelphia, falling to the Redskins, 17-12.

Here are some observations:

* The Eagles could not get anything going down the field. DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin combined for two catches for 21 yards. Jackson's longest reception was just 9 yards. Maclin was tarageted just two times all game.

LeSean McCoy was targeted 14 times and set career highs with 12 catches for 95 yards. Kevin Kolb checked down to McCoy time after time.

* Disaster struck at the end of the first half when the Eagles were called for a delay of game penalty AFTER they called a timeout. They had a 4th-and-goal from the 1-yard line, called timeout, but apparently were still late to get the offense back on the field. The Eagles were moved back 5 yards and had to settle for a field goal, making it 17-6.

* The Eagles only have four wide receivers on their roster. That meant only three when Riley Cooper left the game with an injury.

* McCoy's fumble in the third quarter was just the Eagles' second turnover of the season.

* The Eagles were penalized eight times for 80 yards. Two of those penalties were on third down on defense. Two other penalties were by Jason Peters for holding.

* The Eagles were much better defensively in the second half. The Redskins' six possessions consisted of five punts and an interception.

As bad as Kolb was, Avant dropped the game winning catch with no time left...

Sloppiness is either because of coaching or choosing undisciplined players. Either way Reid is on the hook for that garbage.

Kolb does not look like an NFL quarterback. What did they ever see in this guy? Hope Mike Vick is not badly hurt.

As bad as Andy Reid is at having a decent game plan, making quick decisions, making In-Game changes, etc they almost win...maybe one day the Eagles will wake up and see that a coach who's willing to run the ball gives you a chance to be competitive (see Mike Shannahan's play calling). Pathetic. Let's go Phils...Let's go Flyers!!!

This was just one more boring inept NFL game. this sport has gone totally downhill the last 5 years and on any given Sunday any team can blow a game to any other mediocre team.

Yea you can't win in the NFL, unless your ready from the start of the game. The defense slept it's way into the stadium. If they learn to start off with intensity this could be a good defense. I like a lot of what I saw, this is young team. I actually feel better about Kolb. Who was it that dropped the ball to score a TD at the end of the game? Kolb hit him right in the hands, coulda been a hero!

Kevin Kolb is the most over rated player in the history of the NFL. Please release him and elevate Mike Kafta....otherwise fire Reid....

Amazing how people can evaluate a QB in 5 games. Aaron Rodges was 6-10 in year 1 geniuses.

Think DJax and Maclin want Vick back ASAP? Despite that we could have won on a Hail Mary which makes it hurt worse than watching Kolb try to play QB.

What do you do with an NFL coach who can't run a timeout without panicking, let alone a 2-minute drill? You fire him. The Land Whale must go!

OK, haven't we seen enough of Jason Peters? How in the hell did this guy go to the Pro Bowl last year, or convince the Eagles he was some sort of long term answer at tackle!? Is he the lost Andrews brother or something?? The two holding penalties were terrible, but absolutely unforgivable was his lack of effort on Shady McCoy's fumble. The Redskin who recovered that ball pushed him out of the way to get down and get that ball, while he stood there looking like he couldn't be bothered to fall on the loose ball right on front of him. Watch the replay, he never made any effort to move to that ball, let alone get on the ground and fight. If the new tackle isn't on the roster, we need to find one on another roster, and draft a stud next year.

Kolb was missing open receivers like crazy. Various times Kolb was either not seeing them or making poor throws. Stating the obvious, but I know some people will defend Kolb no matter what.

Too many penalties (some appeared to be ticky-tack to this observer), a key turnover by Shady, some poor run defense, a couple of big plays surrendered, a poor decision at the end of the first half, indecisiveness on Kolb's part and finally, a dropped hail mary pass. This is known as beating yourself.

Enough with the Aaron Rodgers comparisons!!! Kolb will never be on that level and you saw that today. About 70% of his throws were of 4 yds or less in the air and honestly McCoy made him look good. So yeah his stats are very deceiving, so don't get started on saying that he looked good and there's still hope. I'll check back in on the Eagles in 6 wks, when Mike Vick is at center. ~ PingasMan out!!
