Too many mistakes for Eagles in loss

The Eagles delivered a sloppy performance in Donovan McNabb's return to Philadelphia, falling to the Redskins, 17-12.

Here are some observations:

* The Eagles could not get anything going down the field. DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin combined for two catches for 21 yards. Jackson's longest reception was just 9 yards. Maclin was tarageted just two times all game.

* LeSean McCoy was targeted 14 times and set career highs with 12 catches for 95 yards. Kevin Kolb checked down to McCoy time after time.

* Disaster struck at the end of the first half when the Eagles were called for a delay of game penalty AFTER they called a timeout. They had a 4th-and-goal from the 1-yard line, called timeout, but apparently were still late to get the offense back on the field. The Eagles were moved back 5 yards and had to settle for a field goal, making it 17-6.

* The Eagles only have four wide receivers on their roster. That meant only three when Riley Cooper left the game with an injury.

* McCoy's fumble in the third quarter was just the Eagles' second turnover of the season.

* The Eagles were penalized eight times for 80 yards. Two of those penalties were on third down on defense. Two other penalties were by Jason Peters for holding.

* The Eagles were much better defensively in the second half. The Redskins' six possessions consisted of five punts and an interception.
