Draft position, gambling on the Eagles
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
If the season ended today, the Eagles would have the 11th pick in the first round of April's draft.
A couple weeks ago, the Birds were slotted for the No. 6 spot, but after having won back-to-back games, there are now 10 teams with a worse record than them. The Chiefs, at 6-8, have the same record as the Eagles. And there are seven 7-7 teams (the Titans, Cardinals, Seahawks, Chargers, Raiders, Bears and Giants).
Four teams - the Redskins, Panthers, Dolphins and Bills - are just one game worse than the Eagles, at 5-9.
As for the second round, the way things currently stand, the Eagles would have back-to-back picks at Nos. 44 and 45. The first pick is their own, and the second pick is from the Cardinals via the Kevin Kolb deal. Arizona is suddenly at .500 after having won four straight.
Speaking of Kolb, Jason La Canfora of NFL.com reports that the Cardinals could actually get rid of him after one season with minimal financial responsibility. Per La Canfora, Kolb is due a $7M roster bonus in March, which the Cardinals could decline. He's only on the hook for $1M in salary in 2012. The article goes into further detail about future years, but the way La Canfora explains things, it's not out of the question that the Cardinals could cut ties with Kolb after 2011.
Kolb missed all of November with an injury and was sidelined in just his second game back. He's completed 57.7 percent of his passes this season for 1,955 yards, nine touchdowns and eight interceptions (QB rating of 81.1).
GAMBLING ON THE EAGLES
The Birds will be slight underdogs when they travel to Dallas to take on the Cowboys this weekend. According to BetOnline.com, the Cowboys are 1.5-point favorites. Sportsbook.com has the number at 2 points.
The Eagles, of course, need the Jets to beat the Giants earlier in the day to still have a shot at the playoffs. The Jets are currently 3-point favorites, according to both sites mentioned above.
So, what are the chances that the Eagles actually win the division? Here are odds, courtesy of BetOnline.com:
Cowboys (-225)
Giants (+200)
Eagles (+500)
In other words, if you bet $100 on the Eagles to win the division, you cash in $500 if it happens.

@ zeru that ish was funny lol... where is lame wolf at he had a serious man crush on kolb lmbo!!! hey wolf your boy did it again!!! lost his job to lame so he must be even lamer!!!! DJ_Bootleggah
All this talk about "haters", well let me ask this... if we interviewed for a new coach, and one applicant said his team would be competitive every year but it would take him 14 years OR MORE to win a super bowl, would you hire him?
And his decisions aren't getting any better. What do we do next year when Vick is out for 4-6 games? Not to mention that he isn't the Vick we had last year (luck), he is and always will be the Atlanta Vick.

The Eagles have done a nice job over the past few years in getting 2nd round picks for washed up or overrated QBs. Unfortunately the draft selections are not working out. We got the hall of famer Reggie Brown for Feeley, and Nate Allen for McNabb. Get rid of Howie and his inability to recognize football talent and we stand a chance of landing something valuable with these picks. tommy2times
@Scootch.. He cant throw that far to get the ball to Fitzgerald. When Kolb was here Lesean McCoy was our leading reciever in catches. Now that he is gone he leads the NFL in rushing. Coincidence? Hell no... Zeru
Once again the franchise Qb Kevin Kolb loses his starting job to yet another backup qb. And spent 70% of the season on the sidelines because he hurt his toe... Zeru
The people who think the Eagles would be better with Kolb than Vick are insane. Kolb might be even more injury prone than Vick, with much less playmaking ability. p-diddy
Kolb is a bust, but so is DRC + the Eagles will blow the 2nd round pick on an undersized safety out of Lehigh that is a hard hitter. chocolatethunder
Andy looks like a genius the way he suckered the Cardinals trading away Kolb for a second round draft pick.
If there wasn't a lockout Andy may have gotten a first round pick for Kolb. Some GM would have put a contract out on Andy had that happened. Dexter
Comment removed.- Those odds are a joke. The Eagles are a lock to win the division. The only uncertainty is which AFC team we humiliate in the Supe.
Cardinals are a better team with Skelton. Kolb never throws to Fitz....never. scootch
Looks like 20% shot of making it, a couple a weeks ago it was 1% chance. dmanphilly
Mundiff I concur. Mugwumps88
There seems to be a lot of Hate of Vick and he played with a bad line and Reid never gave him any game experience with McNab! Vick is Vick and Reid has problems on game plans 2 weeks in a row. tulsaphil
Nice to see Kolb in his usual position on the sidelines. Different team, different uniform, same location...bench. tpizza
FABER, they can get out of the Vick contract in 2 years if they want. When healthy Vick is at least a top 10 QB. Kolb is a never will be. His upside is over and quite frankly I always thought he was Bobby Hoying 2.0 mundiff
No analysis of the playoff situation is more objective than that out of Vegas. The Washington game could look like a preseason game with draft implications. 2ndNlong
Still would rather have Kolb than Vick... at least they could get out of the contract with him. FABER
