Don't expect Runyan at a camp

It's funny (and probably sad) how often ideas for MTC pop into my head.
I was in the 12 items or less line at the Columbus Boulevard Wal-Mart tonight and realized I was going to be waiting for awhile to pay for my Soft Batch cookies, Right Guard deodorant and other assorted items.
So I took out my Blackberry to check on the Phils and then jumped on Twitter to see that PFT had posted an item on Jon Runyan.
And that's when I remembered I meant to write about Runyan earlier today.
Better late than never, right?
The veteran offensive lineman was on WIP yesterday with Glen Macnow and Anthony Gargano to discuss the death of his former teammate, Steve McNair.
But near the end of the interview, he provided an injury/rehab update.
"I'm doing well, haven't had any setbacks," Runyan said, adding that the doctor told him to ramp up his activity before seeing him again in about four weeks.
Runyan said he's right on pace and was told he won't miss any of the season.
But has he heard from any teams?
"I hear from teams occasionally, but it's more of a 'When are you gonna be ready?' And I'm like 'I'll call you when I'm ready,'" he said.
Gargano suggested half-jokingly that he'd probably be 'ready' as soon as training camp was over.
"Probably exactly that day," Runyan said.
When asked if he had any desire to be in Lehigh in August, the 14-year veteran responded, "Why? Do you have a desire to go up there and broadcast?"
So it appears he'll continue to rehab, see how injuries and contract squabbles play out during training camp and then hopefully join a team in mid-to-late August.

If he can't show another team anything in training camp, he could be a backup for the Eagles.— P Even- I doubt Runyan has any interest in being a back-up. The guy has been a starter for a long, long time.— JimG
- I guess the Eagles will let Runyan float to someone like the Cowboys. Only then will we hear from the Eagles with some excuse as to why they didn't pick up the phone to call him.— Voytas

- Like every other Eagle fan, I'd like to see Big Jon continue with the team. But I suspect his body is tired. His relunctant to go to camp is a clear indication of that. He's been the ultimate warrior, but his time has finally come and I doubt he is willing to go 16 games and the playoffs at the level he once played. There's a reason the Eagles haven't called and I suspect they know he is all but done.— dapmman

Playoff vs Carolina: Mcnabb gets a late hit in the sternum from a blitzing INSIDE linebacker, Runyan's fault? When McNabb tore his knee he was simply trotting out of bounds, Runyan's fault? - Jon has been a trooper, a standard matched by very few, he's been the teams standard bearer at right tackle for what seems like eons.. what l'm getting at here, is maybe Jon might be interested in moving up, not out. does he have the potential of being a coach, or assistant to the offensive line coach.. that is the question.. to me, l would prefer seeing Jon hanging around Philly, even if its in shorts barking out calls, alignments or offensive assignments .. I don't mind seeing someone being happy, but if he's thinking about how good his life is and the millions of dollars he's making instead of focusing on winning a football game, then I have a problem with it. - Republican, you may be the biggest moron on the face of the planet. First, Strahan had a good portion of his sacks by lining up over the middle against the Birds and blowing up Fraley. Second, I guess Runyan was the only person that Strahan beat. Third, for the past five years, Runyan has been one of the most consistent and good lineman in the NFL. He rarely ever gets a penalty. He plays every game. In the playoffs last year, him and Thomas were exposed as old and tired but every year before that, they were one of the best tandems in the league. Get a clue idiot.— oharabri
