Deion: McNabb deal 'dumbest trade ever'

In the past, Deion Sanders has made two things clear:
1. He's a Donovan McNabb fan.
2. He can't stand Eagles fans.
So it should really come as no surprise that Sanders sounded off during an NFL Network appearance tonight when asked what his first thought was when he heard the news that the Eagles had dealt McNabb to the Redskins.
"First of all, I gathered myself and sat down because I couldn't believe that this was the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my entire life, except for that Herschel Walker 'shibocle' years ago," Sanders said, apparently so distraught that he had to make up a new word. "But you trade a guy in your own division that you got to see him twice, and you have [Kevin] Kolb, [LeSean] McCoy, [Jeremy] Maclin and DeSean Jackson - seven years amongst the complete trio of playmakers that you have for an 11-year guy that has taken you to five NFC championships and a Super Bowl. Man, are you kidding me?"
Sanders was asked if the Redskins have leapfrogged the Eagles in the NFC East pecking order. He said the Cowboys and Giants are at the top of the division, and then it's a toss-up between the Eagles and the Redskins.
That's when co-host Warren Sapp jumped in.
"You look at these two teams... they swapped quarterbacks," Sapp said. "Now the Philadelphia Eagles have the worst quarterback in the division, and the Redskins have one of the best defenses, and now you give him a veteran quarterback. Prime, Philadelphia's at the bottom of this division right now."
That's all it took to convince Sanders.
"You know what, I would agree with you, big fella. I would," he said. "Dumbest trade ever. I'm still mad about this trade."
Maybe we can get Deion and Brian Baldinger to duke it out?
You may remember that a couple years ago after the Eagles beat the eventual NFC champion Cardinals at home on Thanksgiving, McNabb made an NFL Network appearance where Sanders called Eagles fans "idiotic" and admitted that he couldn't stand them.
One Andy Reid sidenote to all this. For the first time in years, he'll be able to play the whole "nobody thinks we're any good" angle. Almost every season during the McNabb/Reid era, the Eagles have been a popular or trendy pick to make noise in the NFC.
But in 2010?
It doesn't look like that'll be the case. I don't know exactly what that different mindset counts for. Ultimately, it will come down to whether the players are good enough. But as we see athletes create feelings of disrespect for added motivation all the time, it certainly can't hurt.

- uh actually yea I have played football lol, if you think McNabb has a fast realease and is a smart QB you are clueless. If you think Tra Thomas an Jon Runyan werent two of the best OT's the eagle ever had you are wrong. and McNabb had them almost his entire career. Hes too stupid with his league lowest wonderlic score (14) to find the right reciever and not accurate enough if he even does that, the only reason he has all that time to run around is because one of the leagues best 0-lines was constantly blocking for him. the level of fan IQ out of some of you is really bad...
- In trading dmac to the skins, AR may have blocked Them from taking Bradford (if he is still there) at forth overal. An older dmac who may hurt us for a year, may be washed up and unable to hurt us, or he signs long term and the skins will go back to obscurity in two season, maybe one or none. I will take any of those scenarios over a young uber stud QB. Makes perfect sense to me. If the birds did not do things like this, they might as well keep the status quo and try to fit an inaccurate QB into a system requiring an on-target guy like Kolb and keep to annoying hayers. (no rings, anyone?). How Celine Deion has a job with his blantant lack of impartiality is amazing. I am done; over and out.
- Dtownfan is right. Is Kolb Brady? We don't know, but his teammates and coaches seem to think so. Besides Bledsoe was three years younger when they sent him to the Bills. It will be interesting to see who that 2nd round pick ends up being.
Deion Sanders.Still trying to master the english language. hazer
Deion = 0, McNabb impact on Redskins = 1 Richard Saunders
glad you are a redskin fan now too. maybe you should just get rid of the too, and just be a redskins fan and drop the birds all together. FO is so dumb that they've fielded a contender for over a decade bula412
The headline lies. Sanders clearly thinks the Herschel Walker 'shibacle' was worse. Bazalite

I wasn't a fan of this trade, until I heard Deion thought it was the dumbest trade ever. Now, I think I like. Why does that guy still have a job? He never makes any sense. harry & whitey
Why does Deion Sanders have a job in communications??? "SHIBOCLE"???? Man, are you kidding ME??? Please do not put any stock in what Deion Sanders or Warren Sapp have to say about anything, because they are complete morons - the NFL Network is a joke for even employing these clowns bubbagoozer
It was about time they got rid of McNabb. They should have gotten rid of him after his lost the superbowl. Down 2 scores with 7 minutes to go and you take your friggin sweet time going down the field. Yeah he wins a lot, but they win when the other team has to play catch up. But if the score is tight or the other team is ahead, then forget it. McNabb can't throw a crossing or slant pattern if his life depended on it. How many times have we seen it go either behind the receiver or in the dirt. The only time he hits his target is if the target stops in the middle of the route and just stands there waiting for McNabb to throw it. Shanahan will figure that one out really quickly. drjk888- funny how it's always the old guys who never seem to understand that it's a young man's game
read a great article yesterday abot WHY mcnabb went to the redskins. claimed the eagles FO is very impressed with bradford and feared the redskins would move up in the draft to take him. better the devil you know for 3-4 years than the (possibly more talented)devil you don't for 10 years. regardless of how well kolb plays, if bradford comes in the league and lghts it up, some people might owe the eagles some apologies... ill-eagles

Why was it dumb to trade within the division? I think it will be hilarious to watch Donovan throw at the feet of Skins wr's. Watch that stupid grin and "my bad" face and tap to the chest. Kolb will set passing records and the Birds will be a better team in the long run. The Skins scare you now? Please, their O-Line stinks and they dont have the draft picks to rebuild the team. Stop whining and enjoy a new face of the franchise. cdedrick05
