Deion: McNabb deal 'dumbest trade ever'

Deion: McNabb deal 'dumbest trade ever'

In the past, Deion Sanders has made two things clear:

1. He's a Donovan McNabb fan.
2. He can't stand Eagles fans.

So it should really come as no surprise that Sanders sounded off during an NFL Network appearance tonight when asked what his first thought was when he heard the news that the Eagles had dealt McNabb to the Redskins.

"First of all, I gathered myself and sat down because I couldn't believe that this was the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my entire life, except for that Herschel Walker 'shibocle' years ago," Sanders said, apparently so distraught that he had to make up a new word. "But you trade a guy in your own division that you got to see him twice, and you have [Kevin] Kolb, [LeSean] McCoy, [Jeremy] Maclin and DeSean Jackson - seven years amongst the complete trio of playmakers that you have for an 11-year guy that has taken you to five NFC championships and a Super Bowl. Man, are you kidding me?"

Sanders was asked if the Redskins have leapfrogged the Eagles in the NFC East pecking order. He said the Cowboys and Giants are at the top of the division, and then it's a toss-up between the Eagles and the Redskins.

That's when co-host Warren Sapp jumped in.

"You look at these two teams... they swapped quarterbacks," Sapp said. "Now the Philadelphia Eagles have the worst quarterback in the division, and the Redskins have one of the best defenses, and now you give him a veteran quarterback. Prime, Philadelphia's at the bottom of this division right now."

That's all it took to convince Sanders.

"You know what, I would agree with you, big fella. I would," he said. "Dumbest trade ever. I'm still mad about this trade."

Maybe we can get Deion and Brian Baldinger to duke it out?

You may remember that a couple years ago after the Eagles beat the eventual NFC champion Cardinals at home on Thanksgiving, McNabb made an NFL Network appearance where Sanders called Eagles fans "idiotic" and admitted that he couldn't stand them.

One Andy Reid sidenote to all this. For the first time in years, he'll be able to play the whole "nobody thinks we're any good" angle. Almost every season during the McNabb/Reid era, the Eagles have been a popular or trendy pick to make noise in the NFC.

But in 2010?

It doesn't look like that'll be the case. I don't know exactly what that different mindset counts for. Ultimately, it will come down to whether the players are good enough. But as we see athletes create feelings of disrespect for added motivation all the time, it certainly can't hurt.

uh you guys do realize the redskins offensive line is a mess ? and donovan does not get the ball out quickly ? and he has been sacked more then any other starting Qb in the league at 357 times, with one of the greatest pass blocking lines in the league his entire career ? and they know how to exploint donovans weaknesses better then anyone ? and you are afraid ???? donovans gonna get nailed in those games, if he is even healthy enough to walk by then.

If Deion thinks this is the "dumbest trade ever", then I'm convinced the Eagles did the right thing. Deion is a joke on that network and makes the recap show they do on Sunday nights unwatchable. Donnie is a modern day Drew Bledsoe. Lots of fancy stats, one SB appearance, but couldn't get it done. Pats sent Bledsoe off and he went to interdivision rival Buffalo, and Brady did just fine afterwards. If Kolb is everything Reid says he can be, then the Eagles will be fine and Donnie won't hurt them in the end. Just need to get some health and depth on defense.

I too thought this was not the brightest trade...but now that Deion has said he thinks it is the 'dumbest trade ever' I suddenly feel as though this trade was pure genius and is going to work out just fine!

The intellectual levels of Sapp and Sanders combined is just 1/3rd of that of the average Eagle fan..and that number is 1/2 of Donovan's jersey number....

Deion,Irvin,Emmitt always play the under the radar race card. In his mind this was nothing other than Philly wanted the white QB. Completely false... Philadelphia has holes in their defense, they need a strong draft. Kolb has developed to a point that he has believers who think he can play. Montana, Young, Bledsoe, Moon, McNair, Favre, Esiason, Brees, Cunningham, the list goes on and on... were all starting QBS that were traded, or moved on from teams that they began with... Cry me a river Deion.... please make the playoffs Birds and bring Dallas to town so we can welcome you.

Time will tell abut the trade. I am no fan of Deion or Sapp - to put it mildly. A much more respected voice - Phil Simms - while being hopeful about Kolb, said that Shanahan and Redskins fans should be jumping for joy over acquiring McNabb. Who knows what will happen? Maybe, it will help both teams, but it is unusual to trade a franchise qb within the division.

i really like deon, but he is 100% wrong on this one. and you can assure 1 thing the eagles will not finish last in the devision i'm calling it now, they will find a way to not be last.

Dumb trade to do it within the division, but a calculated trade other than that. McNabb, althought a good quarter back, was never the type for the WCO. Over the years he's worked to change from a run first/pass second qb to a pure passer, and only showed glimpses of that actually happening. The offense Andy has in place is set up to allow passers to succeed, Just look at all the times McNabb has spent injured and then look at our record without him. I think some of those "experts" haven't looked to closely to that. I think Kevin Kolb will do fine for the Eagles, IF we fans give him some growing time.

Neon was the best cover corner in NFL history (my opinion). Andy Harmon's spear tackle into his ribcage, knocking him out of a game, was my favorite Deion moment though. Man, that was just fun to see! F#$% Sapp and Deion.

OK this is getting ridiculous...I am never one to play the race card like plenty of people on here. But as this stuff continues to go on it is hard to not think about it, even for just a split second. I sincerly hope it is not the case that would be pretty horrible, for all people involved.
