Reporter: Dawkins deal not official

POSTED: Friday, February 27, 2009, 7:26 PM

I just got off the phone with David White, the San Francisco Chronicle reporter who posted a couple hours ago, saying Brian Dawkins had agreed to terms with the Denver Broncos.

Here's the deal: White is not reporting that Dawkins has signed a contract with the Broncos. He actually never reported that. White is told by a source that Dawkins has "agreed to terms" on a deal. Many of us took this to mean a deal had been finalized, but there is obviously a major difference if you look at the wording closely.

As of right now, no one (that I've found) has reported that Dawkins has signed a deal. And White is still the only reporter I've found that says Dawkins has agreed to terms. The bottom line is that it appears nothing has been finalized, although White sticks by his source that a deal is in place.

White said I'm the only person from Philadelphia who hasn't cursed at him today, and I appreciate him taking the time to get in touch with me after I sent him an initial e-mail.

He ends his most recent blog post with:

And please, Brian Dawkins, sign the deal with the Broncos and don't go Bart Scott on me.

So, to clarify White's report one last time: Dawkins has agreed to terms, but he still has the option to change his mind.

Keep it locked on philly.com for the latest on this story from The Inquirer and Daily News.

Look, Dawk has nothing left in tank. We loved the Eagles before he got here and we'll love the Eagles after he leaves.

I love people who think they "know football" becuase the were a backup on jv...Dawkins was getting abused because he was covering up the mistakes of others. Are you confident in Quiten Demps because Sean Considine is the fifth best safety available in free agency. Dawkins was head and shoulder above the rest. And that doesnt even factor in leadership. Runyan Dawk and maybe Tra gone, so now McNabb is the leader. What a joke

If he stays or if he goes he will always be an Eagle.

Rather lose and keep .... what BS. If the Eagles replace him with somebody better and win the SB, that's what I'm talkin about.

Trotter....Douglas....Bobby Taylor....all "great" defensive players who the Eagles couldn't survive without....right? And the fans went ballistic when they were released....And they did absolutely nothing on another team because they were old and too slow to be an impact player anymore.

I must have missed all the Super Bowls we won under B-Dawks "leadership" that everyone seems to think we will miss...

This is the Eagle way. Be one of (only) 8 of 32 NFL teams to raise ticket prices & then your big splash in free agency is bringing in Stacy Andrews. The same Stacy Andrews who had knee surgery in January. On top of that you're letting the heart & soul of that locker room go to Denver. Are you kidding me? 40 something million under the cap & they give us Stacy Andrews. Thanks for nothing AGAIN Mr. Burns & Smithers! Can't wait for the draft! Maybe you can draft another fine receiver like Reggie Pinkston, I mean Brown (what's the difference?). I guess Tra is the next one to be shown the door. Too old, right Smithers? Thanks for the memories Tra but you're too old now. How old was Bruce Matthews when he was still making Pro Bowls? To steal one from The Joker (Jack Nicholson)..."This organization needs an enema!!" Thanks for The Gold Standard years guys! When were they again?

Dawk knows just like we all do that Denver isn't going ANYWHERE next season.A big loss for the birds, but at 35 clearly B.Dawk is looking out for his financial well being and not too worried about a ring.

In 1978, I became addicted to the Phillies. Watched every televised game, remembering particularly that best one - when Tugger struck out Willie Wilson. In 1982, the players struck. Annoyed me. In 1983, they struck again. Pete Rose had made a hit per game for 33 games, and was going for the record. In my mind, the Phillies quit on me, and I gave up watching. In 1980, I also met and married my husband, who was also a Flyer's and Eagles' fan. Fortunately, I made him choose - we would not be watching every single pro team game of every single pro sport in the city. He could choose one or two. He gave up the Flyers (and agreed with me on the Phillies.) I wasn't a big football fan, although I still miss Jaws, Quik, Carmichael, and a few others from the teams over the years. Somewhere in the last 5-7 years, I became addicted to all things Eagle. "All things Eagles" - Reid, McNabb, Westbrook, Shepperd, Runyan AND Brian Dawkins. (De Sean's still becoming "all things.") Some of the trades in the last couple of years have broken my heart - one has NOT! (81 reasons to hate and pity the Cowboys, now.) Dawkins? Leaving? Feels like the 1983 Phillies' players strike. Unless Dawkin REALLY wants to leave (and my heart's broken either way), if he leaves, I leave. I have not watched a baseball game (OK, except for the World Series last October- I'm not crazy) since 1983. I won't watch the Eagles either. No Dawkins, no heart, no Eagles!

One question: if Dawk and (presumably) Runyan leave, who is the leader of this team? And please don't tell me McNabb, b/c his leadership skills are a joke.

Alright, so Lurie/Banner/Reid have a chance to correct all of this RIGHT NOW.
