Reporter: Dawkins deal not official

POSTED: Friday, February 27, 2009, 7:26 PM

I just got off the phone with David White, the San Francisco Chronicle reporter who posted a couple hours ago, saying Brian Dawkins had agreed to terms with the Denver Broncos.

Here's the deal: White is not reporting that Dawkins has signed a contract with the Broncos. He actually never reported that. White is told by a source that Dawkins has "agreed to terms" on a deal. Many of us took this to mean a deal had been finalized, but there is obviously a major difference if you look at the wording closely.

As of right now, no one (that I've found) has reported that Dawkins has signed a deal. And White is still the only reporter I've found that says Dawkins has agreed to terms. The bottom line is that it appears nothing has been finalized, although White sticks by his source that a deal is in place.

White said I'm the only person from Philadelphia who hasn't cursed at him today, and I appreciate him taking the time to get in touch with me after I sent him an initial e-mail.

He ends his most recent blog post with:

And please, Brian Dawkins, sign the deal with the Broncos and don't go Bart Scott on me.

So, to clarify White's report one last time: Dawkins has agreed to terms, but he still has the option to change his mind.

Keep it locked on philly.com for the latest on this story from The Inquirer and Daily News.

Thanks for the reports, I was sitting in a bar and saw it, I had to go home. 35 years old going to 36, most people and probably 99% of the time youlet the guy go. But there is the unusual people like, Reggie White, Ray lewis, Ed Reed,Emmitt Smith, and a ton of others that had more talent then anyone of the field, when when they got to 35 and people said they were done, they weren't they still had 1 or 2 great years in them.. Brian Dawkins is one of those people. Pro Bowl player last year and played like the old Dawkins toward the end of the season, I was very proud of the way he played at the end. No one in the media or public will ever forget about the booing when we drafted McNabb and Brian will never forget how much we loved him as brother.

While the business end of it is true, if you want to win now, you keep a guy like Dawk, A PRO-BOWL safety who is a true warrior.

If Dawkins leaves I swear I won't watch a single Eagles game this upcoming season. Eagles management stinks on ice

Its obvious that he's told the Broncos that he wants to give the Eagles a last chance to match their offer. The ball is in the Eagles court.

If the Eagles allow him to leave they will have a mutiny on their hands!! How could they even let him go into free agency is beyond me. He's so much more than a player to the fans. He gets this city and we LOVE him for that. How do you let that walk away?? With each year, I get more and more disappointed with the FO.

I find it hard to believe what I am reading. Dawkins not only has slid this past season, he has slid for the past 3. You people crack me up. This is just smart football. Too bad you dont see it. You all would be whining next season when he continued to decline. And the idiot who said he would rather lose with Dawkins than win without him, well, let me suggest you follow the Broncos and your wish will come true.
