Reporter: Dawkins deal not official
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
I just got off the phone with David White, the San Francisco Chronicle reporter who posted a couple hours ago, saying Brian Dawkins had agreed to terms with the Denver Broncos.
Here's the deal: White is not reporting that Dawkins has signed a contract with the Broncos. He actually never reported that. White is told by a source that Dawkins has "agreed to terms" on a deal. Many of us took this to mean a deal had been finalized, but there is obviously a major difference if you look at the wording closely.
As of right now, no one (that I've found) has reported that Dawkins has signed a deal. And White is still the only reporter I've found that says Dawkins has agreed to terms. The bottom line is that it appears nothing has been finalized, although White sticks by his source that a deal is in place.
White said I'm the only person from Philadelphia who hasn't cursed at him today, and I appreciate him taking the time to get in touch with me after I sent him an initial e-mail.
He ends his most recent blog post with:
And please, Brian Dawkins, sign the deal with the Broncos and don't go Bart Scott on me.
So, to clarify White's report one last time: Dawkins has agreed to terms, but he still has the option to change his mind.

fly dawkins fly, to the land of broncos, please BHite15
Sad to lose him but smart not to get into a bidding war for a 35 year old Safety. I realize he had a great 2nd half last year but overpaying him when he'll be one year older isn't smart. Keeping him for sentimental value and past achievements isn't smart business either. If you want to have a shot at getting to the playoffs every year you have to keep your team young and competitive. I'd much rather save the money and try and sing Tra Thomas because O-linemen can actually play effectively into their late 30's if they are not injury prone. Tell me Dawk isn't saying "show me the money" by going to the lowly Broncos who have ZERO shot next year. Bill R4- Thank goodness we'll still be 15 million under the cap next year. Who needs a heart and soul guy like Dawkins anyway, right Andy, Jeff, and Jeff? Gold standard this. duffers
Comment removed.- Great. Now call Philly back, tell them the deal terms and make them agree albertpa
Noooooo! The Eagles aren't the Eagles without B-Dawk! LarzNero
We would like to thank Brian Dawkins for participating in the Eagles Franchise for the last 13 years.. gallen024
First of All to Joe banner and Jeffrey Lurie, what is wrong with you two??? Philadelphia fans are not just about a superbowl win, we're about loyalty. Many of us remained loyal through many losing years, and you two chose to get rid of the man who is the lifeline of the team. How could you so easily get rid of the heart and soul of the Philadelphia Eagles, just because of his age?? What does that say about the Philadelphia Eagles Organization's loyalty to its fans? s.winter- That better be a darn good contract for the Birds to let him go. Yes he is on down-slide, but his intangibles are among the best in the league. Sign him for 2 years and give him a coaching gig!!!
i'd honestly rather lose and keep dawkins than win without him. tockeyhockey
Come back home, Dawk!!! I'll pay you whatever I can under the table!!! PLLEEEEEEAAAASEEEE!!! yatpatel
This really is a cold business. And nobody cares about the fans that pay the freight. Dawkins can contribute significantly to this team for two more years, just by infusing his work ethic and will to win in younger players. They should have locked him up before free agency started. More stupidity from the "Gold Standard." Right here, Jeffey... steelydad

To Mr. Jeffrey Lurie and Mr. Joe Banner are you the tinmen with no heart??? You know Philly fans aren't all about a superbowl win, we're about LOYALTY! How could you allow the lifeline of the team visit let alone sign with Denver. How could you so easily get rid of Brian Dawkins who is the heart and soul of the Philadelphia Eagles? We as fans stuck by the Eagles through many many years of losing, and yet the Philadelphia Eagles Organization's concerns about Dawkins is nothing more than his age? What does that say about the Philadelphia Eagles Organization's loyalty to its fans? s.winter
