Earlier this week, we rounded up national opinion on Donovan McNabb and his newly restructured contract.

The consensus seemed to be that McNabb deserved the new money, and multiple writers indicated that the Birds' signal-caller is not fully appreciated here in Philly.

Brian Dawkins might agree with them.

The former Eagles safety was back in Pa. yesterday, hosting the Burn Prevention Classic at Saucon Valley Country Club.

He talked about some of the news and issues surrounding the Eagles since his departure, including McNabb's new deal.

"Something that was well-deserved from all the things that he's continued to do on a consistent basis here in Philadelphia," Dawkins said, during an interview on CSN. "I think people don't really realize what they have in Donovan McNabb. I know I do. I appreciate him. I remember the times without him and so I know what it feels like to have him. So for him to get that is a huge blessing and well-deserved."

Dawkins also spoke about the absence of Jim Johnson at OTAs and the potential for Sean McDermott as a defensive coordinator.

"I think being up under a coach such as Jim and having Jim pour into him... it's one thing to be up under a guy that he doesn't pour into you, but Jim poured into him as far as the things that he was looking for and why he did certain defenses," Dawkins said. "So I believe that Sean will be able to do what he needs to do and hold guys accountable when they're not doing what they're supposed to do, and that's one thing, you didn't have to think twice about Jim holding guys accountable. That's just his personality and his nature, but I don't see Sean having that problem with holding guys accountable."
