Cowboys' Brooking forgets Eagles game
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
With 1:55 left in yesterday's NFC divisional game, Brett Favre found tight end Visanthe Shiancoe for an 11-yard touchdown to put the Vikings up 34-3.
If you were watching, you saw Cowboys linebacker Keith Brooking run over to the Minnesota sideline and take issue with the score.
"I thought it was totally classless and disrespectful," Brooking told the Dallas Morning-News. "This is the NFL, that's not what this is about. I don't think there's a place for that ... I was looking for [Vikings head coach Brad] Childress. I didn't think it was right."
Our first thought was: Hasn't Brooking been paying attention? If nothing else, we know that Childress has nothing to do with the Vikings' offense, right? Doesn't Favre ignore his head coach and do what he wants? So Brooking probably should have been looking for No. 4.
Our second thought was: Wait a minute. Wasn't Tony Romo still throwing late in the game against the Eagles in Week 17?
And the answer is yes. We looked it up.
With about 2:30 left in that game, the Cowboys faced a 4th-and-2 from the Eagles' 35-yard line. They were up, 24-0 (the exact point differential in yesterday's game before the final TD). Dallas could have easily taken a knee and given the Eagles' offense the ball back with 2:20 left, but Romo dropped back and looked for a receiver before getting sacked by Juqua Parker.
On that day, I remember no such footage of Brooking barking at Romo or offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and lecturing them about class and respect. But maybe the cameras just didn't catch that part.
As for my opinion, I partly agree with Brooking - there's no reason for the Vikings to be throwing to the end zone at that point in the game. But I have more of a problem with him running over to the sidelines and complaining. You are a defensive player. You have the ability to stop them from scoring. Direct your energy at the right places.
I think everyone has a thought on this so chime in below and vote in the accompanying poll.
Brookings whole act before the game is a joke, and quite embarrasing, mediocre linebacker, and a sore loser, stop whining...... kramer65- Punk Cryboy and his Brokeback Defense - not that there's anything wrong with that. The Eagles got lucky this season. The Cowboys won just enough games to keep their coach. We also got to see what happens to Romo when he gets some pressure. I just think it was stupid on the Vikings part having Farve in when the game was over.
Brooking obviously forgot the previous two games. At least when the Eagles got beat by 34 points, they put up 14, not 3. da_sneaky
Agreed. I thought the Vikings score was classless and puzzling. But anybody is allowed to have an opinion on this - EXCEPT for the Cowboys. If they didn't like what was happening, they had an opportunity to do something about it on the field. Whether the Vikings were running up the score or not is for others to say. The Cowboys must speak to that issue with their actions and otherwise be silent. Falkirk- Brooking cannot comment on class - he is a member of the most classless organization in pro sports. He's just crying like a child who just got spanked.
- Brooking needs to be aware that nobody like the Cowboys, so therefore nobody likes him. What everybody does like is seeing the Cowboys get their faces rubbed in it. jmc
Brooking looked as dumb as anyone can look on the field. In pro sports, there is no such thing as running up the score. Take your beating like a man. What an idiot! PhillyHouse JayDuce- If you don't want them scoring late in the game make a tackle. Joe Funk
I'm glad the Vikes scored at the end. Just like they tried to do against Eagles. Like they say PAYBACK'S A BEEAACH!!!!! fla.eagle
I thought the idea was to get the ball into the opposing teams endzone. This is football, you wear helmets. It's not a baking competition. Im sick of all the PC BS in the world today. It's ruining everything. I didn't see Brooking or any Eagles crying about beating the Eagles 58-14 over a period of 2 weeks. The Cowboys were exposed for the frauds they are. America's team shouldn't whine like a spoiled child, but then again maybe that's what all the PC BS has created, spoiled children. JohnnyH
Maybe Childress was acting for Andy Reid and the Eagles. What if this was a payback for the Cowboys showing a lack of respect for the Eagles by throwing late in game 17 and saying they didn't have to play their best in the wild card game? Remember, Childress is afriend of Reid's and a former Eagle coach. jmch
brooking is a joke an overrated player in college, in atlanta, now dallas, just shut up and play..don't like it...stop them then phillyfanyo
"Brokeback Defense" nicely put borntosuffer. I've been trying to figure out what was that unintelligble nonsense Brooking has been spouting in the huddle. Turns out, he's yelling "I just can't quit you" to Mike Jenkins & Anthony Spencer. dragoon6
yep, yep, poetic justice. I bet that wiped the smirk off of that jerk Romo's face... eagledon
The question for Brooking is, why did the Cowboys go for it on fourth down at their own 30, late in the game? If the game was over, then they should have punted the ball. They didn't stop playing, so Minnesota shouldn't have stopped playing either. PhillyfaninChicago
