Countdown to camp: Eagles' wide receivers

POSTED: Monday, June 21, 2010, 5:00 PM

Every week leading up to Eagles training camp, we'll go position-by-position, previewing what to expect from the Birds at Lehigh and during the 2010 season.

This week's video with Noah Coslov of Cinesport focuses on the wide receivers.

This is the first year in a while that I am truly worried. Every year we go into a season without something. One year its the kick returner. Then its safety position. Then O-line. Wr. the list goes on and on. Now we have traded our franchise QB. No more 5 to blame. This is going to be a long season.

Because Im Right - you are right, he never led us to a Super Bowl win...just the third best record of the decade. Anything less than Kolb and it will be seen as a mistake...no excuses.

BCRock is right. McNabb was able to find and make time for the receivers because they can not create any room within 15 yards. McNabb at times was able to buy time, so he could make the big plays down the field. I hope KK can find some time to get the receivers open also. I really hope. Please don't worry about Donovan, he is now playing for a team that will run the ball.

I'll take WR speed over size any day. Just look at what Miles Austin did last year. Sure big WRs like Fitzgerald can dominate, but no substitute for speed IF Kolb can deliver the ball in the right spots. Offense should play a lot faster this year, be interesting to see if Kolb and best set of WRs and TEs Eagles have had in a long time can consistently move the ball.

Bigbadrookie, McNabb either made a big play down the field or nothing... Usually nothing. He either looked like the best player in the league one day and was terrible the next. Any quarterback that has about a 60% completion rate with as many screens as he throws should not be considered elite. I would love for someone to look up his completion percentage beyond the line of scrimage and behind the line. I would bet you that his completion percentage goes below 50%. McNabb did win some games with his legs, but rarely with his arm. most of the wins early in his career had more to do with the great defences rather than high point totals. Consistancy is the key to winning superbowls, McNabb has shown that he can not string 3-4 great games together without having the bad game. Turn the page.

There are actually two kinds of receiver that are successful in the NFL when it comes to beat press coverage, physical and quick receivers. Jackson and McClain are both very quick off the line and are able to avoid press coverage.

MCFLAAB WONT BE MISSED. lonewolf11, i think your post about "pitching & catching" then you saying" pitch it daddy" i can read between the lines & your a sick puppy....anyway back to the comment, this is the best group of WR we've had here in a long time with DJAX becoming the star, JMAC having another training camp as the starter AVANT doing his thing, thats NOT a bad 1-2-3 WR corp, then with Baskett back in the fold and rookie Reily Cooper (who i think will beat out Baskett for the 4th WR spot)it'll give Kolb more targets to throw to, i like all the Talent on the roster at WR & TE lets just hope Andy makes the right roster cuts when the time comes. In the west coast offense you need multiple weapons out there on the feild McFlabb was really only focused on one target most times he was reall all that great at reading defenses he really didnt utlize all of his options thats part of the reason he took so many sacks i believe Kolb will fare better in that department and with the talent around him at the skilled position spots he should done really well as time goes on.

The WR's will be great this year with an accurate QB delivering the ball. Eagles discussion here - http://www.phillysportscentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?9-Eagles-Message-Board-amp-Discussion-Forum

To bobf876: they have Te O, he's just on defense. These WR's are a little small, but if you're playing press coverage across the field, one missed jam and they're gone. AR has always wanted to run a WCO and he's got the players to do it. We shall see.

Good point by BCRock. Maclin and Jackson are great if we can also get a Miles Austin or Vincent Jackson. Can Riley Cooper be that guy? Doesn't have TO's speed, but he does seem to be a real receiver.

Hey Z-force, you just made barrywil's point. Miles Austin is 6'3" 215 lbs, and not particularly fast.
