Casey Matthews to visit Eagles

POSTED: Wednesday, March 30, 2011, 5:03 PM

Earlier Wednesday, in an episode of That's What He Said, Bob Ford of the Inquirer and Marcus Hayes of the Daily News answered the question: Which NFL player would have the biggest impact if added to the Eagles' roster?

Bob chose Packers linebacker/defensive end Clay Matthews.

Well, he's not leaving Green Bay, but the Eagles are showing some level of interest in his brother, Casey.

Oregon linebacker Casey Matthews will be in Philadelphia Thursday for an official visit, according to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post.

NFL teams are allowed to have 30 prospects in for official visits.

Matthews (6-1, 231) was a first-team All-Pac 10 selection as a senior, piling up 73 tackles, three sacks and three interceptions. He suffered a shoulder injury during the combine.

Wes Bunting of the National Football Post has Matthews rated as his sixth-best inside linebacker.

Below are some YouTube highlights of him at Oregon.

Meanwhile, Nebraska safety DeJon Gomes tells KFFL.com that he also has a visit scheduled with the Birds.

Gomes (6-0, 208) had 93 tackles, two forced fumbles and three interceptions as a senior. Bunting has him ranked as the seventh-best free safety prospect.

Earlier Wednesday, I had a post that mentioned Cam Newton, DeSean Jackson, Jimmy Smith and Chris T. Jones.

Maybe the NFL will let the Eagles put a tackling dummy in the middle of the field next year.

Eli to Peyton, big difference. If we can get him in the 4th and let him compete then it would be worth it, anything above that is a stretch

Why is he visiting the Eagles? He won't be available in the seventh round when someone reminds two ton Andy that we need a linebacker.

watsonmr, looks like he has a nose for the ball and can actually cover a TE. That's already two things no other Eagle LB can do. Hard to believe how bad this group has been and for how long they have been that bad. Casey M. isn't going to be a MLB but outside he might be fine. Still want Pouncey or Carmini 1st, then Wilkerson if he can get a push up the middle. That's something else this team hasn't had since Jerome Brown. QB from Nevada would be nice but 2 QBs too young to play would still mean we'd need a vet unless Kafka is ready. How do you carry 4 QBs? Guess I've come to think that a 4 year incubation period like KK had is the norm now... Man, I want that extra 1st rounder for him. Maybe a swap of firsts with 9ers and extra 2nd round pick would suffice.

The Eagles will draft him and move him to center because they are the smartest guys in the room.

tpizza, I think the packaged deal you mentioned is the only way they get to move up, unless they throw in a promising young player with Kolb, say Riley Cooper, who I think can be a pretty good player. In fact out of last years draft, I think he may have the most promise to have a long productive NFL career.

Kolb to AZ for #5 pick and then we get a real impact stud for a change.
